## In short

Yuok is a Japanese restaurant specializing in eel rice bowls in Songjeong, Haeundae, Busan. A couple ordered a jumbo unaju (grilled eel rice bowl) set and a salmon rice bowl set for lunch, swapping bites, and the meal moved smoothly from shrimp tempura through soup, side dishes, and dessert. It's a solid pick in Songjeong when you want a neat, composed set meal instead of raw fish.

Yuok, a Songjeong restaurant we've been wanting to try — a proper eel rice bowl lunch enjoyed with my wife.

There are honestly so many places to eat in Songjeong. Head toward the beach and you'll find raw fish, seafood, meat, cafés — endless options. But this day, I wanted to try something a bit different with my wife.

> How about eel for lunch today?

Neither of us had any reason to say no to eel, so we headed to Yuok, a well-known Songjeong spot.

Yuok is an eel rice bowl specialist on Songjeong-gangbyeon-ro in Haeundae-gu, Busan. Unlike the bustling atmosphere near Songjeong Beach, the building itself felt calm, and that first impression was a good one.

## Who knew Songjeong had a place with this atmosphere

The first thing that caught my eye was the exterior. Instead of the flashy signage you see everywhere these days, it has a Japanese-style look with wood and roof tiles. There's a small garden-like outdoor space near the entrance too, nice for sitting a while before or after eating.

Stepping inside, the atmosphere flows naturally from the exterior. It's warm overall with wood tones, and there are both table seats and bar-style seating.

The little decor pieces scattered around were fun to look at, and on one wall hung a bunch of messages left by past customers. We're the type who can't just walk past that kind of thing — we spent a while reading what other people wrote.

## What we ended up picking from the Yuok menu

Looking at the menu, eel is clearly the star. There's the Jumbo Unaju set, Mackerel Ochazuke set, Torodon set, Salmon rice bowl set, plus grilled eel and various à la carte dishes.

Here's what we ordered that day, one each:

- Jumbo Unaju set
- Salmon rice bowl set

Rather than order the same thing twice, we prefer ordering different dishes and trading bites — that's our style as a couple. In the end my food is her food and her food is my food, a perfectly fair system.

### There's an eating order guide

Yuok even provides guidance on how to enjoy the dish. First, taste the eel on its own; then add the accompaniments that come with it; and finally, try it another way — so even though it's one bowl, the flavor shifts a little as you go, which makes it fun.

It definitely felt different from just eating the same eel bowl the same way from start to finish.

## If you're looking for a good Busan restaurant, start with the eel visuals

After a short wait, the set was served, and the spread was more generous than I expected.

My Jumbo Unaju set had eel as the clear star. A big, glossy piece of eel sat on top of the rice, and I immediately understood why the name includes 'jumbo.' The shine on the eel was so good I had to take photos before eating.

I ate a piece of eel first, then had it with rice. The sweet, savory sauce had soaked naturally into the rice, and it paired really well with the eel. The eel's signature savory flavor came through, and eating it with rice made the meal properly filling.

## My wife's pick, the salmon rice bowl set, held its own too

Then there was my wife's salmon rice bowl set. Since this place is really all about the eel, I didn't expect much from the salmon bowl, but seeing it on the table changed my mind. Thick, generous slices of salmon topped with onion, sauce, and radish sprouts — it looked appetizing just from the colors alone.

> This one's going to photograph well.

It was her food, but I was the one snapping photos more eagerly.

I stole a bite of salmon and found it soft and savory, with the onion cutting through any richness. Eaten with rice, it was plenty filling as a full meal on its own.

The set doesn't just come with the main dish — soup, side dishes, salad, and a big shrimp tempura all come along too, making the table feel quite full. One bite of eel, then stealing a bite of salmon, then some shrimp tempura... at that rate, it wasn't really like ordering two separate dishes — it felt like we'd ordered two 'ours' from the start.

## A clean finish with dessert

After the meal, dessert arrived too. Finishing off a satisfying meal of eel and salmon with something sweet put us in an even better mood. Personally, I love it when a set meal keeps this kind of flow going all the way to the end.

It's not just about one dish being delicious — the whole experience, from the moment the set arrives to the final bite, needs to feel satisfying for you to walk away thinking, 'that place was good.'

## A delicious lunch with my beloved wife in Songjeong

This visit to Yuok felt a bit different from the typical idea of a Songjeong restaurant. Raw fish or seafood by the beach is great, but sometimes it's nice to sit in a good atmosphere and enjoy a neat, composed eel rice bowl set instead.

When two people walk out after a good meal saying, 'that was good, let's come back again' — that's success. That's exactly how this visit to Yuok went.
