I was getting a bit tired of always going to the same places, so I told myself — let's try somewhere new! I searched around and found this spot. Spoiler: I was super satisfied haha >.< Turns out this place has even been on SBS's Live Today show! It's Haemokjeong Bupyeong Branch. ## Where is Haemokjeong Bupyeong Branch, and is there parking? Haemokjeong Bupyeong Branch is on the first floor of the A Building on Hwarang-ro in Bupyeong. It's about a 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Baekun Station. Since it's close to home, we walked there, and the sign itself is so huge you can spot it right away. It also looked really convenient for those driving, since there's both underground and above-ground parking! Right at the entrance, the country-of-origin labeling is displayed in big, bold text, which made me trust the place right away! And true to a seafood specialty restaurant, there's a separate fish tank too haha. ## Inside Haemokjeong: group tables and high chairs Once inside, the hall is genuinely spacious! The tables are spread out generously too, so you can eat comfortably without worrying about the neighboring table at all. There's separate group seating and high chairs, so I think this place is perfect for anyone looking for a spot for a family gathering or a company dinner. They also have kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and king pork cutlet, so it looked great for coming with kids too. After some deliberation, we ordered the Haemokjeong B Set. It's a combo of spicy braised pork ribs + mushroom kalguksu + fried squid, which was just right for the three of us. You can choose between two spice levels — mild and spicy — and we went with mild! And leftover packaging is available for just ₩1,000, so that's good to know too! Oh right! You can also grab side dishes from the self-serve bar — pickled red pepper paste, water kimchi, chive salad, braised potatoes, lettuce wraps, and a cold jellyfish-noodle-style salad. There's also a generous supply of disposable aprons off to the side, so you can eat without worrying about stains on your clothes. ## How spicy are the mild braised pork ribs? The sauce is rich and sweet, so my parents said it was truly delicious. There's also a generous amount of rice cake mixed in, and these rice cakes were soft and chewy — totally my style. ## Mushroom kalguksu cooked on the second burner There are two burners at the table, so the mushroom kalguksu gets cooked separately on the side. The broth was surprisingly light and refreshing, which paired really well with the spicy braised ribs. They gave us a timer and told us to turn off the burner and eat once it beeped. Funny enough, right when it went off, the noodles were bubbling away vigorously! Oh, and my dad thought there weren't any noodles in the kalguksu yet, so he went ahead and ordered an extra serving of noodles — turns out there were already noodles in there haha. Thanks to that, we ended up eating our fill of noodles that day. Thinking about it now, of course there'd be noodles in something called kalguksu... haha. We added an extra serving and fried it up, and honestly you'll seriously regret it if you skip this!
