I wanted a hot-and-refreshing broth loaded with all kinds of seafood, so I went to Haemulmyeongga Donghae Haemultang! When you're searching for seafood jjim (steamed seafood) or seafood stew in Bupyeong, you care about the variety and quantity of seafood as much as the broth's flavor. This time I ordered the seafood stew in the small (so-ja) size, and honestly the portion was so generous it barely felt 'small' at all!!

## A spacious dining hall that suits a family meal

Haemulmyeongga Donghae Haemultang has a spacious dining hall from the start, which looked comfortable even for a group. When I visited, a lot of families were there too, so it seems like a solid pick if you're eating with parents or looking for a spot for a family meal. The tables weren't cramped and the atmosphere felt relaxed, which made eating hot seafood stew all the more comfortable!

## What's on the menu and what we ordered

There were lots of steamed seafood dishes — seafood jjim, seafood stew, monkfish jjim, crab jjim, octopus jjim, and more haha. That day I was craving stew, so I went with the seafood stew!!

## Six side dishes and the hangover-curing mussel soup

About 6 side dishes came out, and every single one was perfectly seasoned and delicious. There was also shrimp soy sauce (saeujang), but that one you have to order as an extra!

The mussel soup broth was so refreshing.... I'd been drinking the night before and it totally cured my hangover haha. Plenty of mussels in there too.

## How much seafood comes in the small (so-ja) seafood stew?

The seafood stew I ordered that day was the small size, and I was surprised the moment it hit the table by how generous it looked. I'd worried a small size might not be enough, but the portion turned out bigger than expected, and it had so many different kinds of seafood in it that picking through it was half the fun! It wasn't just one or two ingredients — a wide variety of seafood was packed in generously, and just looking at it felt satisfying haha.

### Staff trim the seafood right at your table

Once it had boiled enough, a staff member came over and cut everything up into easy-to-eat pieces. With seafood, it can be tricky figuring out how to cut certain pieces, and doing it yourself at the table can feel like a hassle. Having the staff cut it into the right sizes meant I could just relax and cook it without worrying about prep myself (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

### How did the seafood stew broth taste?

Once it had simmered enough, I tried the broth first and it was clean — not heavy or overly intense! With so much seafood in it, you could really taste that refreshing depth, but the broth never got too heavy. The spicy broth paired well as a drinking snack, and eaten with rice it made a filling meal, so my spoon kept going back in. Pulling out seafood piece by piece and then sipping the warm broth in between worked really well together. As time went on the seafood flavor got richer in the broth, but it stayed clean and enjoyable to the very last spoonful!
