## In short

Mikodam Magok-Balsan Branch is a Korean set-menu restaurant near Balsan Station in Gangseo, Seoul, built around seaweed soup and cockle bibim (cockles mixed with rice). A couple ordered the 46,000-won Han-sang-gadeuk set for two, which ran from a puffed corn starter through seaweed soup, beef jeon, jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork), japchae and soy-based cockle bibim to plum tea for dessert. Even a diner who normally avoids cockle bibimbap finished the bowl, making Mikodam a good call on a day for gentle, home-style Korean food.

Hi, this is Chugu, traveling on the run. Around Magok or Balsan, meat or pasta are always tempting, but sometimes you just crave a proper, full Korean spread. Looking for a Korean restaurant near Balsan Station, I ended up at Mikodam Magok-Balsan Branch, where you can enjoy seaweed soup and cockle bibim together.

This isn't really a one-dish kind of place — from seaweed soup to cockles, grilled fish, and various side dishes, the table fills up generously, which made it perfect for a day I wanted a hearty meal. It's worth keeping in mind for a family meal with parents or if you're after a clean, proper Korean set-menu restaurant near Balsan Station.

It works well for friends or couples, but looking at the food lineup, it also seems well suited to a family dinner with parents or a group gathering.

The two of us went with the Han-sang-gadeuk set for two.

How about a cup of plum tea for dessert?

How about some warm roasted corn while your order is coming? A K-starter of corn, if you will.

## What comes with the 46,000-won set for two

Once the dishes for Mikodam's Han-sang-gadeuk set started arriving one after another, I understood exactly why it's called 'han-sang-gadeuk' — a table full.

![Side dishes being set out one by one for the full spread](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-hansik-mikkodam-two-set/balsan-station-hansik-mikkodam-two-set-10-xf1wu-900.webp)

It's not just a main dish sitting alone — several side dishes that go well with rice are set out, and with seaweed soup, cockle bibim, and side menus added, the table fills up fast.

![Plates of side dishes meant to be eaten with rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-hansik-mikkodam-two-set/balsan-station-hansik-mikkodam-two-set-11-1hi9b-900.webp)

These days a lot of Korean restaurants just serve the main dish and keep it simple, so being able to taste a little of this and that here felt like a proper full Korean spread.

![A spread of Korean side dishes for sampling a little of each](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-hansik-mikkodam-two-set/balsan-station-hansik-mikkodam-two-set-12-1uu2t-900.webp)

![Close-up of side dishes in the Mikodam set for two](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-hansik-mikkodam-two-set/balsan-station-hansik-mikkodam-two-set-13-giwsn-900.webp)

It would especially suit anyone who enjoys the Korean style of eating — a bite of banchan (side dish), a spoonful of rice, a sip of warm soup — rather than eating one dish start to finish.

I came with my wife this time, but it also struck me as a great place to bring the foreign visitors I've been touring around with lately, if they want to try real Korean food.

And with that, the full table at Mikodam, a favorite Korean restaurant near Balsan Station, was complete.

## Seaweed soup choices at Mikodam and how they taste

Best seaweed soup I've had in a while — Mikodam's version!

Starting with a warm spoonful of seaweed soup instantly settled my stomach. It was exactly what I needed on a day I was craving gentle Korean food to eat slowly with rice, rather than anything heavily seasoned.

One nice thing is that the seaweed soup comes in several kinds — beef, flounder, clam, abalone, and more — so you can pick to your taste. It'd suit a chilly day, sure, but also the morning after a night of drinking when only warm broth will do.

## Beef jeon, jeyuk and japchae in the Mikodam set

The beef jeon (pan-fried beef) here is always a treat!

![A plate of Mikodam's beef jeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-hansik-mikkodam-two-set/balsan-station-hansik-mikkodam-two-set-19-1n9g1-966.webp)

The beef jeon at Mikodam, a Korean restaurant near Balsan Station, blends nicely with everything else to round out the full spread.

The jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) and japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) were both good enough to enjoy as standalone dishes on their own.

## Is the soy-based cockle bibim worth ordering?

Mixing plump cockles and sauce into the rice is enough on its own to finish a whole bowl in no time.

![Cockles and sauce mixed into rice for the cockle bibimbap](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-hansik-mikkodam-two-set/balsan-station-hansik-mikkodam-two-set-22-522ei-900.webp)

Alternating between the warm, mild seaweed soup and the savory kick of the cockles meant I never got tired of it, all the way to the end.

Honestly, I'm not usually a fan of cockle bibimbap — even when I traveled to Gangneung — but I really enjoyed the soy-based cockle bibimbap here.

## Final verdict on Mikodam Magok-Balsan Branch

Magok and Balsan have no shortage of restaurants, but sometimes you crave gentle, filling Korean food over anything too heavily seasoned. Mikodam Magok-Balsan Branch is the kind of place that comes to mind on days like that. With seaweed soup and cockle bibim at the center, surrounded by a full spread of side dishes and extras, even two people can enjoy a genuinely generous meal. The Han-sang-gadeuk set for two we tried this time let us sample a wide range of Mikodam's signature dishes, and it's a lineup I'd recommend for anyone visiting for the first time.
