## In short

Baekok Yongsan is a Korean restaurant between Yongsan Station and Sinyongsan Station in Yongsan, Seoul. Visiting on a weekday evening at 6:15pm with his wife, the writer ordered pork gomtang (pork bone soup) for ₩11,000, a half plate of cold jeyuk (cold sliced pork) for ₩10,000, and 5 cabbage-wrapped mandu (dumplings) for ₩10,000, standing out for its clear broth and cabbage-leaf dumplings. A solid pick for a tidy meal or a drink-with-dinner spot after a date at IPARK Mall.

## A 13-minute walk from Yongsan Station: finding Baekok

My wife and I headed out after work for a small dinner date at Baekok, a rising restaurant near Yongsan Station. Baekok sits conveniently between Yongsan Station and Sinyongsan Station.

We got off at Yongsan Station and walked over slowly, about 13 minutes on foot. It felt like a nice stroll, and we arrived before we knew it.

## Weekday, 6:15pm — was there a wait?

When we arrived around 6:15pm on a weekday, there were thankfully plenty of open tables, so we were seated right away without waiting. But right after we sat down and placed our order, a wave of customers started coming in — we clearly got lucky with our timing.

## What's the atmosphere like?

The interior had a tidy yet stylishly modern feel. Every table was clearly kept spotless and clean, which built a real sense of trust in the hygiene before we'd even eaten a bite. The tableware and interior details felt carefully thought out, creating a comfortable, pleasant environment for a meal with my wife.

## What we ordered for two, and the prices

We wanted to sample Baekok's signature dishes, so we ordered a spread together.

We ordered a warming bowl of pork gomtang for ₩11,000, added a half plate of cold jeyuk — a nice change of pace — for ₩10,000, chose the cabbage mandu that everyone says is a must-try, 5 pieces for ₩10,000, and got a Zero Coke for ₩2,500 to wash it all down cleanly. Even with such a varied order, the overall price felt reasonable, which was satisfying.

### The brass-bowl banchan spread

The basic banchan (side dishes), served in neat brass bowls, were also a highlight — you could tell they were made with care. Sweet-and-sour well-ripened kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), crunchy pickled onion-pepper-mushroom, and nutty mukmuchim (seasoned acorn jelly) were all tidy and paired perfectly with the main dishes.

## The taste of the pork gomtang broth

The first thing we tried, pork gomtang, had a clear, transparent broth that whetted the appetite just by looking at it.

The moment the broth touched our lips, there was no heaviness or gamey pork smell at all — just a clean, deep umami that filled the mouth.

The meat, sliced thin and soft, came in a generous portion, and paired with the fragrant scallions, it delivered a clean flavor that warmed and filled us up beautifully.

## Cabbage mandu wrapped in cabbage leaves

Finally, the cabbage mandu we'd been most looking forward to had a truly unique look. Instead of a regular flour dumpling wrapper, the filling was carefully and neatly wrapped in round cabbage leaves.

The filling was packed full, with a subtly spicy seasoning running through it. With every bite, the crisp texture of the cabbage and the clean, savory kimchi-mandu filling came through together in harmony. It was a whole different level of refined, upscale flavor compared to the mandu we usually eat.

## Cold jeyuk and the house-special dadagi sauce

The cold jeyuk, served chilled, had a distinctive chewy-yet-soft texture that really stood out.

Topping the thinly sliced meat with a bit of the sweet-and-spicy house-special dadagi sauce that came alongside it, the meat's own savory fat flavor and the umami sauce came together perfectly. There was no greasiness at all — a side dish we kept reaching for.

## In short

Baekok let us fully enjoy a clean, clear pork gomtang, a distinctive and appealing cabbage mandu, and a chewy cold jeyuk, all at reasonable prices in a clean, modern setting. I'd highly recommend it to couples looking for a good meal after a date at IPARK Mall, or to anyone near Yongsan Station searching for a tidy spot to enjoy a meal with a drink.
