## In short

Arirang Gaeseong Son Mandu Siksa Branch is a handmade mandu (dumpling) hot pot restaurant in Siksa-dong, Goyang, Gyeonggi, where the dumplings are pinched by hand in one corner of the dining room. The Gaeseong Son Mandu Hot Pot Beef Shabu Set for 2 brought steamed dumplings, a hot pot piled with mung bean sprouts and a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) finish, with a self-serve kimchi bar and beer or soju at 1,900 won as the standouts. Ordering the beef shabu set rather than the mandu hot pot alone gives the broth far more depth, and it was the more satisfying choice.

As the weather cooled off a bit, I started craving hot soup dishes. Today I was especially in the mood for a bubbling mandu (dumpling) hot pot, so I headed to Arirang Gaeseong Son Mandu Siksa Branch, a well-known spot in Siksa-dong.

I usually love dumplings, and I prefer handmade ones with a full, clean filling over the store-bought kind. This time, not only were the dumplings delicious, but I also got to enjoy beef shabu-shabu and kalguksu all in one meal — it was so generous! The kalguksu at the end especially exceeded my expectations, I'm still thinking about it, haha.

## Where is Arirang Gaeseong Son Mandu Siksa Branch, and is there parking?

Arirang Gaeseong Son Mandu Siksa Branch is a handmade mandu restaurant on Donggung-ro in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. There's parking space right in front, so it was easy to visit by car.

Walking inside, the restaurant was clean and pleasant — it looked like a nice place to eat with family too.

The first thing that caught my eye was the sight of dumplings being hand-pinched right in a corner of the restaurant! Watching each dumpling being shaped by hand somehow made me trust the place more. This is really a dumpling-focused restaurant! So if you're looking for a Korean restaurant in Siksa-dong and love handmade mandu or mandu hot pot, this one's worth checking out!!

## Menu, the self-serve bar and 1,900-won beer and soju

The main menu at Arirang Gaeseong Son Mandu Siksa Branch is the Gaeseong Son Mandu Hot Pot, and there's also a beef shabu-shabu set where you can enjoy beef alongside it. It's a lineup that really fits a dumpling specialty restaurant.

Every item on the menu is also available for takeout, so it seems like a good option for eating comfortably at home too.

You order through a kiosk, and there's a self-serve bar to the side with kimchi, pickled radish, and broth you can help yourself to freely.

And here's the real jackpot I found — beer and soju for ₩1,900! Is that price even real at a restaurant these days, haha? Mandu hot pot itself pairs really well with drinks, and with the drink prices this good, it seems perfect for a hot pot and a shot of soju in the evening.

They were also running a receipt review event — when I visited, I could choose one of: 6 gulrim mandu, 2 fried mandu, a drink, or a beverage.

## What comes in the Gaeseong Son Mandu Hot Pot Beef Shabu Set for 2

What we ordered was the Gaeseong Son Mandu Hot Pot Beef Shabu Set for two! Beef, mandu hot pot, kalguksu, and steamed dumplings all arrived at the table — the spread was more generous than I expected.

![Full table setting of the Gaeseong Son Mandu Hot Pot Beef Shabu Set for two](https://img.superchart.com/images/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar-10-4colu-1200.webp)

Personally, if you want to enjoy a variety of dishes rather than just mandu hot pot alone, I'd recommend ordering the beef shabu set.

![Plate of steamed dumplings served with the set](https://img.superchart.com/images/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar-11-18wcu-900.webp)

While waiting for the hot pot to start bubbling, we first tried the steamed dumplings.

## Steamed meat mandu and kimchi mandu, packed with filling

The steamed dumplings at Arirang Gaeseong Son Mandu Siksa Branch came in two kinds — meat mandu and kimchi mandu — and they were big from the start! Cutting one in half, the thin dumpling skin was packed edge to edge with filling.

I dipped one in soy sauce and took a bite — definitely a cleaner taste than store-bought dumplings! The meat mandu had meat and vegetable flavors blending naturally, without being overly strong. Moist and soft inside your mouth, but clean-finishing afterward!

The kimchi mandu was also delicious. The tangy heat of kimchi came through subtly, finishing clean without being greasy. It wasn't just spicy — the crunchy filling and spicy flavor balanced well together!

What I liked most was that my stomach didn't feel heavy afterward. Even my husband, who's pretty picky about dumplings, said they were so good! Maybe watching them being hand-pinched made them taste even better.

## Mung bean sprout-loaded hot pot with the beef dropped in

Finally the mandu hot pot started boiling, and the beef went in. The hot pot was truly packed with mung bean sprouts! There was also napa cabbage, mushrooms, sweet pumpkin, and various other vegetables, plus rice cakes and dumplings — plenty to fish out.

![Beef being added to the hot pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar-17-1pova-900.webp)

With plenty of mung bean sprouts, the broth was really refreshing. The subtle sweetness from the vegetables combined with the umami of the dumplings, and then the rich beef flavor deepened the broth even more! What started out clean and light turned rich yet still refreshing the longer it simmered with the beef.

I picked up the mung bean sprouts together with the beef before they wilted too much — the crunchy sprouts and tender beef combo was so good. Taking a sip of the hot broth and then eating the beef with the sprouts together, I understood why you should get the shabu set.

![Bowl with beef and mung bean sprouts scooped together](https://img.superchart.com/images/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar-19-n373m-900.webp)

![Dumplings and rice cake soaked in broth inside the hot pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar-20-1vih3-900.webp)

In between, I fished out the chewy rice cakes, and also ate the dumplings that had soaked up the broth inside the hot pot! Unlike the steamed dumplings, the ones in the hot pot had absorbed the warm broth and were much more moist and soft. This is why you're supposed to go to a handmade mandu specialty restaurant when looking for a good mandu hot pot in Ilsan.

## Finishing with kalguksu and kimchi from the self-serve bar

The set at Arirang Gaeseong Son Mandu Siksa Branch finishes with kalguksu. I was already pretty full, but there was no stopping here. We added the kalguksu noodles into the remaining broth and let it simmer.

![Kalguksu noodles added into the remaining broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar-21-13bqq-900.webp)

![Kimchi placed on top of the kalguksu noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar-22-1pfrd-900.webp)

Honestly, since dumplings are the main event here, I didn't expect much from the kalguksu. But it was so good! The noodles weren't the type that go soft easily — they were springy and chewy, and the more I chewed, there was no raw flour taste, just a nutty flavor. The broth, made rich from simmering beef, vegetables, and dumplings, soaked into every bit of the noodles — it was just as good as eating at a dedicated kalguksu restaurant. If anything, the kalguksu alone makes me want to visit again!

And here's the real kicker — the kimchi! Placing a spicy, crunchy piece of kimchi right on top of the kalguksu noodles and eating them together... you just can't resist that, haha. Hot, rich kalguksu broth, chewy noodles, and spicy kimchi to wake up your palate!!

> One bite of kalguksu, one bite of kimchi, one spoonful of broth — the perfect finish!!

## Worth it for a Korean meal in Siksa-dong, Goyang?

A must-try mandu hot pot spot in Siksa-dong, Ilsan!! From big handmade dumplings to beef shabu-shabu, a refreshing vegetable-loaded hot pot, and finally kalguksu!

![Table after finishing the mandu hot pot meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar-23-1rdte-900.webp)

Next time I visit, I think I'll order the beef shabu set again rather than just the mandu hot pot. Adding beef deepened the broth flavor even more, and the combo with mung bean sprouts was great. This place seems like a good fit not just for dumpling lovers, but also for anyone looking for a Korean restaurant in Siksa-dong to visit with parents, a family meal spot, or a hot mandu hot pot in Siksa-dong.

![Cup of coffee grabbed on the way out](https://img.superchart.com/images/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar/arirang-mandu-hotpot-siksa-selfbar-24-y51i1-900.webp)

On the way out, I grabbed a cup of coffee for a clean finish!
