When I opened the black lid, there was a clear inner lid that I needed to remove before use. I could scoop out the balm with the spatula stored on the right side of the container.

Since it was my first time using it, it was hard to judge the right amount, but I placed about three dollops across both cheeks and my forehead. After rolling it around for about 30 seconds, the solid balm melted with my body heat and became smooth like an oil.
