## In short

Jju Baksa Magok Branch is a hot-plate webfoot octopus restaurant between Seoul Botanic Park and Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station in Gangseo, Seoul. On an early Saturday evening the writer ordered the jjusamsae hot plate (octopus, pork belly and shrimp) in mild spice, took an indoor seat right in front of the folding doors for the park view, and added crab egg steam for 5,000 won and flying fish roe fried rice. Staff trimmed everything into easy bites, and with Jju Baksa open until 1am it works just as well for late drinks.

On a Saturday evening, I had a dinner plan near Seoul Botanic Park in Gangseo, Magok for the first time in a while, so I visited the octopus restaurant Jju Baksa Magok Branch.

Even though I arrived a bit early in the evening, the place was nearly full not long after — it's clearly a popular Seoul Botanic Park restaurant, especially on a weekend evening.

## Jju Baksa Magok Branch: the basics

## Park-view tented tables and the seat right at the folding doors

The first thing that caught my eye stepping into Jju Baksa Magok Branch was the lush green scenery outside through the patio. Every table in the restaurant has a park view.

The weather was perfect for the outdoor tables, but we sat right at the folding door instead. With the doors wide open, we could enjoy the park view and patio atmosphere while still feeling the coziness of being indoors — I really liked that seat.

On one side of the restaurant were autographs and messages from celebrities, and disposable aprons were also available.

Blankets were also provided for guests eating on the patio — a nice thoughtful touch.

## What we ordered and how to pick a spice level

We ordered:

- Jjusamsae hot plate
- Crab egg steam ₩5,000
- Flying fish roe fried rice
- Cass beer

The jjusamsae hot plate lets you enjoy octopus, pork belly, and shrimp together, so it was a great choice for wanting a bit of everything at once.

You could choose from spicy, medium, or mild, and since we were told medium is a bit spicier than Shin Ramyun, we went with mild.

### Jju Baksa Magok Branch menu and prices

The menu at Jju Baksa Magok Branch had everything from set menus to à la carte items, plus lunch options for Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station and lunch sets for Magok office workers.

## How the jjusamsae hot plate tastes, and the staff prep service

![Jjusamsae cooking on the hot plate](https://img.superchart.com/images/jjubaksa-magok-mild-folding-door/jjubaksa-magok-mild-folding-door-17-dh60c-966.webp)

Once the jjusamsae hot plate came out, the staff cooked and prepped the ingredients for us until everything was done just right. They cut the octopus and pork belly into easy-to-eat pieces, and the shrimp was already peeled so we didn't have to bother with the shells.

The shrimp especially was served ready to eat while still warm, which made it that much tastier.

The octopus had a bouncy, chewy texture, and the pork belly tasted like a nicely spicy gochujang bulgogi.

![Perilla leaf wrap with octopus and cheonsachae](https://img.superchart.com/images/jjubaksa-magok-mild-folding-door/jjubaksa-magok-mild-folding-door-21-1asul-966.webp)

![Plate of cheese rice cake and octopus](https://img.superchart.com/images/jjubaksa-magok-mild-folding-door/jjubaksa-magok-mild-folding-door-22-1ryy9-966.webp)

Following the Gangseo Magok, Seoul Botanic Park restaurant tip for eating octopus, I dipped the octopus in sauce, put it in a perilla leaf, and topped it with cheonsachae (agar noodles) and radish wrap — the texture was great and the seasoning blended nicely with the perilla aroma and the radish.

The rice cake sides that came with it were chewy and delicious, and the cheese-filled rice cake was gooey and savory too.

Eating it, I thought this really is perfect drinking food. I'd driven so I couldn't drink, but it was the kind of taste that makes you want a drink. Since they're open from lunch until 1am, it seems like a great Magok, Seoul Botanic Park restaurant for a drink too.

### Crab egg steam and flying fish roe fried rice

The crab egg steam we ordered as a side was soft and moist, a nice way to cool down the spice for a bit. With the crab in it, the flavor felt a touch richer too.

The portions were quite large, so I briefly wondered about skipping the flying fish roe fried rice — but you can't skip the finishing fried rice, right? In the end we ordered the flying fish roe fried rice too. Ta-da!

And then... where did the person who said they were full go? We ended up finishing every last bite.

![Flying fish roe fried rice at Jju Baksa Magok Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/jjubaksa-magok-mild-folding-door/jjubaksa-magok-mild-folding-door-23-10n2u-966.webp)

![Basic side dishes: perilla leaves, radish wrap, bean sprouts, cheonsachae](https://img.superchart.com/images/jjubaksa-magok-mild-folding-door/jjubaksa-magok-mild-folding-door-24-17wrp-966.webp)

The basic side dishes included perilla leaves, radish wrap, bean sprouts, cheonsachae, and corn salad — all a great match for the octopus.

## Parking at Jju Baksa Magok Branch

If you're driving, make sure to check the parking situation. Free parking is available for up to 2.5 hours at the Daebang DMC Tower 2 underground lot, but Tower 1 doesn't support parking support. There was plenty of parking space.

There was also a receipt review event and an Instagram hashtag event running.

## How to get there from Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station

130, 1F, Daebang DMC Tower 2 Officetel, 23 Magok-dong-ro 10-gil, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It's about 150m from Exit 8 of Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station on Line 9.

It's also pretty close to Seoul Botanic Park, so it's a good spot to eat before or after visiting the park. Jju Baksa Magok Branch, this Magok Seoul Botanic Park restaurant, is close to Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station too, so it's worth keeping in mind if you're looking for a Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station restaurant or lunch spot.

## Is Jju Baksa Magok Branch worth a visit?

It had been a while since I made a Saturday evening plan with a friend, and eating spicy octopus at Jju Baksa Magok Branch in Gangseo Magok near Seoul Botanic Park made for comfortable conversation.

Above all, it was convenient that the staff prepped the ingredients for us to eat easily, and I liked the combination of the jjusamsae letting us enjoy octopus, pork belly, and shrimp all at once. Seeing the place nearly full from early Saturday evening, it seems like a pretty popular spot in Magok.

If you're visiting Seoul Botanic Park and craving something spicy, this is worth a stop. I think I'd come back here again next time I visit the park.
