## In short

Ryusenso Beomeo Branch is a Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen restaurant a 3-minute walk from Exit 2 of Suseong-gu Office Station in Daegu. Visiting for dinner with her sister, the writer ordered three main dishes — the signature Ryusenso, the spicy Ryusenso Kara, and katsudon (pork cutlet rice bowl) — and finished every last bite. The rich tonkotsu broth paired with crispy katsudon made it a great fit for both solo dining and an after-work meal.

I've been eating really well lately. Tonight I went with my older sister to Ryusenso Beomeo Branch, a well-known spot near Suseong-gu Office.

## 3 minutes on foot from Suseong-gu Office Station, but where do you park?

Ryusenso Beomeo Branch, a favorite near Suseong-gu Office, sits within 3 minutes on foot from Exit 2 of Suseong-gu Office Station on Daegu Subway Line 2. It's very easy to reach by public transit, but unfortunately there's no parking lot attached to the restaurant. So we parked at the nearby Beomeo public parking lot and walked over. If you're driving, it's best to use a nearby public lot or find alley parking.

When we got close, the sign was so eye-catching that we spotted the restaurant right away, even from a distance.

## Inside feels like a small-town Japanese izakaya, with counter seats too

When we walked in, even though it was still early evening, quite a lot of customers were already seated and eating. The interior had this calm, quiet atmosphere, like being in a small izakaya somewhere in a Japanese provincial town — I loved it immediately. Along with group tables, there were neatly arranged counter (dachi) seats too, making it a comfortable spot to eat during a busy day.

## Three dishes ordered on the tablet

Ordering is done via a tablet installed at each table, and you can pay right there on the spot, which was convenient. Browsing the menu, we ordered Ryusenso — the Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen that's the restaurant's signature dish — the spicy version Ryusenso Kara, and katsudon.

While waiting for the food, the pickled radish and pickled ginger on the table were neatly arranged into small bowls. There were also hair ties placed on every table for customers with long hair. Ryusenso used to be famous as a ramen spot and I used to come here often with a friend, but she gave birth and we hadn't been able to visit for a while. Since it had been so long, I felt a quiet excitement while waiting for the food to arrive.

Honestly, with two of us, the usual move would be two ramens and a simple side dish, but since I'd skipped lunch after being swamped with work all day, we ended up ordering three full main dishes. It looked like a lot of food, but today I was confident I could finish it all.

Soon, the dishes were laid out on the table one by one. The original Ryusenso, the spicy Ryusenso Kara, and the katsudon topped with crispy pork cutlet all together looked absolutely delicious. The ramen was topped with a perfectly soft-boiled half egg, crunchy wood ear mushrooms, and thick slices of chashu (braised pork), all stirring up my appetite. The pork cutlet on the katsudon also looked crispy even before taking a bite, building up the anticipation.

### Original Ryusenso tonkotsu ramen

First we tried the original Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen, Ryusenso, which my sister had chosen.

The moment my sister took a sip of the broth, she exclaimed how savory and delicious it was. I stole a taste too, and the broth had a deep, rich flavor, as if pork bones had been simmered for a long time. It was clean with no gamey smell at all, yet thick and full-bodied — really excellent.

### Spicy Ryusenso Kara

The Ryusenso Kara I ordered was ramen with a spicy sauce added to the rich tonkotsu broth. Since the base broth is already so heavy and rich, adding a touch of spice cut through any heaviness completely while making the savory flavor pop even more. The noodles weren't springy so much as they had that characteristic Hakata-style texture — crunchy and easily breaking apart, but nutty — which paired really well with this thick, heavy tonkotsu broth.

Swallowing that hot, spicy broth felt like it washed away all the fatigue and stress that had built up over the day.

### Crispy katsudon

The katsudon we ordered together was good either way — dipping the pork cutlet in sauce on its own, or mixing it with the rice underneath, seasoned with a sweet-savory sauce. The juicy meat, crispy coating, and slightly sweet soy sauce all came together perfectly with the rice.

## Who is this good for?

In the end, the two of us finished all three dishes without leaving a single bite, walking out of the restaurant absolutely stuffed. Patting our full bellies as we left, I wondered when I'd ever get around to dieting, but the meal was so satisfying that I felt great anyway.

If you want to try the tonkotsu ramen of your life — deep, rich broth — plus crispy katsudon near Suseong-gu Office Station, I highly recommend Ryusenso Beomeo Branch. It's right by the academy district near Suseong-gu Office Station, making it an ideal spot for students to grab a solo meal before class. It's also great for nearby office workers looking for a quick lunch or dinner, and it's the perfect place to stop by on the way home from work for a warm bowl of ramen with a cold beer to unwind from the day.
