## In short

Ppwang Mulhoe is a mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) restaurant on the main coastal road at Yeongildae Beach in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. After checking into a hotel on Yeongildae Beach, the writer walked along the sea to Ppwang Mulhoe for flounder mulhoe at 20,000 won, a squid and flounder half-and-half mulhoe at 20,000 won and squid pajeon at 15,000 won, plus free squid soup from the self-bar, eating each bowl in three stages: mixed, then with noodles, then with rice. It made an easy early-evening course that carried on into a walk at Yeongildae and the POSCO night view.

On this Pohang trip I checked into a hotel right in front of Yeongildae Beach and headed out for an early dinner at Ppwang Mulhoe. Not "Pang Mulhoe" — no no, it's Ppwang Mulhoe haha. And one of the things you absolutely have to eat in Pohang is cool, refreshing Pohang-style mulhoe.

I'll walk you through the first evening course of my Pohang trip — eating mulhoe while looking out at the Yeongildae sea, then finishing off with the POSCO night view after the meal :)

## Where Ppwang Mulhoe is and its opening hours

Ppwang Mulhoe is at 203-1 Haean-ro, Buk-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, on the main coastal road at Yeongildae Beach. It's open daily 10:30–22:00, with last order at 21:00.

This place serves squid mulhoe year-round, so if you love chewy squid sashimi, you'll be even happier here.

### A navigation warning before you drive

Definitely take note of this! T map or Kakao Map sometimes route you to the back door of the restaurant. That direction is blocked and hard to reach by car, apparently. Make sure you approach from the Yeongildae coastal road side instead.

## An early dinner, walked from a Yeongildae Beach hotel

We checked into a hotel right on Yeongildae Beach. After resting in the room for a bit, we walked slowly along the beach in the early evening toward Ppwang Mulhoe.

Instead of getting the car out again, we got to walk with the sea breeze on our way to dinner, which made the trip feel even better. If you're staying near Yeongildae, I really recommend this route: check in → beach walk → mulhoe dinner → night view.

### Parking at Ppwang Mulhoe

There are parking spaces right in front of the restaurant, which you can use right away if there's a spot open. That said, the Yeongildae coastal road can get busy during meal times or on weekends, so if parking out front is difficult, you can use the public lot instead.

The public parking lot for Yeongildae Beach across the street is almost directly facing the restaurant, only about 10–30 seconds on foot. It's free to use.

## Inside the pink restaurant and the seating

Walking inside, the interior was bigger than I expected. When you hear "seaside sashimi restaurant," you might imagine a cozy, old-school vibe.

But Ppwang Mulhoe is decorated in pink, giving it an overall bright and cheerful feel.

The tables were also spaced comfortably apart, which made it look like a good spot for family meals or visiting with friends while traveling in Pohang.

![A separate private room at Ppwang Mulhoe](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-06-o5w9h-900.webp)

The restaurant has separate private room spaces as well as the main hall seating. It looked like a good option if you want a bit more privacy, like for a small gathering.

### Terrace seats right by Yeongildae Beach

Ppwang Mulhoe also has terrace seating where you can feel the Yeongildae Beach atmosphere up close, in addition to the hall and room seats inside. On a nice day especially, eating squid mulhoe or flounder mulhoe with the Pohang sea right there would really amplify the trip mood.

If you're looking for a sashimi restaurant near Yeongildae and want to soak up the seaside atmosphere too, I'd recommend this seating.

## How generous is the free self-bar?

On one side of Ppwang Mulhoe there's a free self-bar set up. The mulhoe alone is great, but with so many side dishes and food to go with it, the meal felt even more filling.

![Tteokbokki and kimmari on the self-bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-09-12mso-900.webp)
*Tteokbokki, kimmari, and nuggets ready at the Ppwang Mulhoe self-bar*

The self-bar had tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), kimmari (fried seaweed rolls), and nuggets

![Various side dishes at the self-bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-10-iujlr-900.webp)
*Cucumber salad, corn salad, fried shishito peppers, sausage stir-fry and more*

along with cucumber salad, fried shishito peppers, corn salad, and sausage stir-fry. It was great being able to serve yourself as much as you wanted, and with the mulhoe it made for an even richer spread. Since it's a shared self-bar for everyone, remember the etiquette of taking only what you'll eat, haha.

### The squid soup you shouldn't skip

The one thing you absolutely have to grab from the self-bar is the squid soup. Mulhoe is cold and tangy, so having a warm broth alongside it was even better. The squid soup was slightly spicy and refreshing, with a deep umami flavor coming through from the squid.

![Squid soup with rice mixed in](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-12-1u75f-966.webp)
*A hearty bowl of squid soup with rice mixed in*

It was so good I even mixed rice into it haha. The combo of cold mulhoe and warm squid soup really worked well together.

![Mulhoe and pajeon set out on the table at Ppwang Mulhoe](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-13-1sf0d-900.webp)

From mulhoe to squid pajeon, tteokbokki and kimmari, plus a neat lineup of side dishes — the table ended up packed full.

![Tteokbokki and kimmari brought over from the self-bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-14-4ku08-900.webp)

I made sure to grab tteokbokki and kimmari from the self-bar too. Spicy-sweet tteokbokki with crispy kimmari, plus a variety of side dishes on top — it made for a hearty spread to go along with the mulhoe.

## What we ordered at Ppwang Mulhoe and what it cost

Here's what we ordered.

- Flounder mulhoe ₩20,000
- Half-and-half mulhoe, squid + flounder ₩20,000
- Squid pajeon ₩15,000

Since we were in Pohang, I wanted the flounder mulhoe, but I couldn't give up squid mulhoe either. So we ordered both the flounder mulhoe and the squid-flounder half-and-half mulhoe to compare the two textures. Adding the warm squid pajeon on top made for a plentiful meal for two.

![Flounder mulhoe loaded with flounder sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-16-zdcz7-966.webp)
*Clean, nutty flounder piled high in the flounder mulhoe*

### Flounder mulhoe, 20,000 won

The flounder mulhoe had that soft, clean flavor of flounder that I really liked. The more you chewed, the more a subtle nutty flavor came through, which paired well with the sweet-and-tangy mulhoe seasoning.

Ppwang Mulhoe's mulhoe includes green onion, cucumber, and pear. The crunchy cucumber and green onion along with the sweet pear made every bite of the mulhoe feel even fresher.

![Half-and-half mulhoe with squid and flounder together](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-17-16fx4-966.webp)
*Bouncy squid and soft flounder together in the half-and-half mulhoe*

### Squid and flounder half-and-half mulhoe, 20,000 won

The half-and-half mulhoe lets you taste both squid and flounder at once. The squid was bouncy and chewy, while the flounder was soft and clean. Even within the same gochujang seasoning, the two kinds of sashimi had different textures and flavors, which made it fun to eat.

If it's your first time trying Pohang-style mulhoe, or you can't decide between squid and flounder, the half-and-half is a great choice too.

## How to eat mulhoe at Ppwang Mulhoe

Rather than eating it just one way, mulhoe tastes better when you go through it in order. I tried it as a three-course sequence myself — starting with the mixed version, then noodles, then rice — and the flavor kept changing all the way to the end.

![Flounder and squid together in the half-and-half mulhoe](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-19-m942d-848.webp)
*If you can't give up either the chewy flounder or the bouncy squid texture, get the half-and-half*

### 1. Start by eating it mixed

At first, skip the icy broth and mix the sashimi, vegetables, and gochujang seasoning together well. This is where you can taste the fresh sashimi texture, the crunch of the vegetables, and the umami of the gochujang seasoning most intensely — the first stage, enjoyed chewy and crisp like hoe-muchim (spicy mixed raw fish).

*Adding icy broth for a cool, refreshing Pohang mulhoe*

### 2. Add the icy broth and the noodles

After you've had enough of the mixed version, try adding the icy broth for a cool, refreshing switch. With the chilled broth added to the sweet-and-tangy seasoning, it took on a completely different charm.

![Mulhoe with noodles added in](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-21-f132w-966.webp)
*Adding noodles for a sweet-and-tangy finish*

Adding noodles on top lets the seasoning and broth soak nicely into the noodles, perfect for slurping down.

![Rice mixed into the leftover mulhoe broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-22-1vdho-966.webp)
*Mixing rice into the leftover mulhoe broth for a hearty finish*

### 3. Finish by mixing in rice

At the end, mix rice into the remaining mulhoe broth for a hearty finish. The sashimi, vegetables, seasoning, and chilled broth all soak nicely into the rice grains — a real specialty. Ppwang Mulhoe is best enjoyed properly through these three courses: mixed → noodles → rice.

![A warm squid pajeon served at Ppwang Mulhoe](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-23-ozpu6-900.webp)
*The warm, savory squid pajeon that paired well with the mulhoe*

## Squid pajeon is worth adding too

Since we ordered two cold mulhoe dishes, we also got the squid pajeon (savory pancake) as a warm dish alongside. Crispy and savory, the pajeon paired well with the cool, sweet-and-tangy mulhoe.

![A piece of pajeon with squid visible inside](https://img.superchart.com/images/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk/pohang-yeongildae-mulhoe-sunset-walk-24-yn0xq-877.webp)
*A piece of pajeon with squid inside, chewy and satisfying*

The chewy squid texture combined with fragrant green onion worked really well, and it was perfect to eat between bites of mulhoe. If two of you are visiting, I'd recommend the combo of 2 mulhoe dishes plus 1 squid pajeon.

## A walk at Yeongildae and the POSCO night view

After finishing our meal, we went back out to Yeongildae Beach for a slow walk. The Yeongildae sea after sunset had a completely different atmosphere than during the day, and the POSCO night view in the distance was really beautiful too.

## Mint's verdict on Ppwang Mulhoe in Pohang

Ppwang Mulhoe is easy to access since it's on the main road at Yeongildae Beach, and the parking spaces in front or the public lot right across the street make it convenient for those traveling by car too.

The restaurant had a bright pink interior, was bigger than I expected, and the window seats let you eat while looking out at the Yeongildae sea, which was even nicer. We enjoyed the flounder mulhoe, the squid-flounder half-and-half mulhoe, and the warm squid pajeon. Be sure to also grab the variety of side dishes from the self-bar and the spicy, refreshing squid soup.

Above all, the fun of enjoying the mulhoe in three stages — mixed, noodles, rice — meant we stayed full and satisfied all the way to the end.
