Hi everyone! I went to Daseon Kalguksu (다선칼국수), a well-known Gyodae spot for kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), bossam (boiled pork wraps), and spicy octopus stir-fry — and also a bar near Gyodae Station where you can actually park. It's a great place for solo dining and solo drinking in Gyodae too.

## Daseon Kalguksu hours and parking near Gyodae Station

The Gyodae direct-operated branch of Daseon Kalguksu is open 11:00–23:00, closing at 22:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. There's parking for three cars right in front of the restaurant, and they recommend calling ahead before you arrive. You can also book the entire second floor for private events.

This Gyodae location is a direct-operated branch, and the quality is genuinely impressive. Solo diners and solo drinkers are welcome here — it's a really delicious, distinctly Korean kind of restaurant-and-bar.

## What's on the menu and what the two floors feel like

Daseon Kalguksu is famous enough to have appeared on the TV show Live Today, and beyond the kalguksu, bossam, and spicy octopus, you can also try savory pancakes (jeon) and seasonal dishes. There's a lunch set menu too, worth keeping in mind!

Even though I came early, the place was already packed. They use both the 1st and 2nd floors, so it's a pretty spacious spot, and since the 2nd floor can be booked entirely for private events, it might be the best option around Gyodae Station for a work dinner or gathering.

The napa cabbage kimchi and radish salad are both made fresh every morning, plus unlimited barley rice!! They use 100% Korean-grown napa cabbage, so it's reassuring to eat.

## What comes with the 73,000 won soju set?

There's a wide range of menu items, but I ordered the Daseon Kalguksu soju set, which lets you enjoy bossam, spicy octopus, and a refreshing, spicy clam soup all at once. It costs ₩73,000.

The radish salad and napa cabbage kimchi, both made fresh every morning, are seriously excellent... genuinely spicy in a way that keeps pulling you back for more. Made only with Korean napa cabbage, it's the kind of thing that's tasty and probably good for you too.

## How does the spicy stir-fried octopus at Daseon Kalguksu taste?

The first dish to arrive was the spicy octopus stir-fry. It's loaded with big, plump baby octopus, and honestly, the look of it alone is irresistible — you can't not eat it. It's vivid red but the sauce isn't heavy at all, so it eats clean and satisfyingly spicy.

The pieces are big and there's plenty of it, so I spent a while cutting it up with scissors. The octopus itself is delicious, the sauce is delicious, and even the vegetables stir-fried in with it are delicious. Nothing here misses. Fry rice in the leftover sauce, or add noodles, and it's basically unbeatable. True to the restaurant's name, the kalguksu is famous here, so I went ahead and ordered a side of noodles.

## Bossam boiled pork with fresh kimchi

Meanwhile, time to dig into the bossam. Chives are laid underneath and the pork is piled generously on top. The balance of lean meat and fat is just right, and it's boiled so well that it's tender and soft — really good bossam.

![Daseon Kalguksu's bossam served over a bed of chives](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodae-dasun-kalguksu-solo-dining-parking/gyodae-dasun-kalguksu-solo-dining-parking-19-gswjm-900.webp)

Eaten plain, it's great for enjoying the pork's own flavor, but it's even better with the fresh-made kimchi, and with the radish salad it turns spicy and addictive. Honestly, my mouth is watering just writing this.

The combination I really loved was eating the pork with the vegetables from the spicy octopus dish — the layered textures and spicy flavor come together beautifully. That alone makes me want to go back. It's seriously, seriously good, haha.

## Clam soup and kalguksu noodles in the octopus sauce

Then there's the clam soup, made with a variety of seafood and a broth they brew themselves — it's genuinely refreshing and clean, with strong clam flavor and plump, satisfying clams. They're well cleaned of sand too, so there's no unpleasant grit while eating.

While you're working through everything, the noodles arrive, and just from the look of the smooth strands, you know they'll be good. They're finished with a drizzle of sesame oil — if that weren't delicious, it'd almost be unfair, haha.

Toss the noodles into the leftover octopus and sauce and mix it all together — wow, this is the real boss move. If you come to Daseon Kalguksu, definitely add this on. You'll seriously regret it if you don't. And the bossam is delicious too — you can tell just from the photos this is the real deal. Highly recommend!

## Final verdict on Daseon Kalguksu

Overall: the food was excellent and the variety of dishes was great. Best of all, it's a Gyodae bar where you can actually park. Overall score: 4.7 out of 5.
