## In short

Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a ssambap (leaf-wrap rice) and set-menu Korean restaurant on Dolgoji-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi. After stopping at Simhaksan Yakcheonsa temple and the Paju outlets, this Saturday 6pm dinner was the 20,000 won deuljeongsik set: stir-fried pork, stir-fried squid, doenjang stew, gangdoenjang and stone-pot rice, with wrap vegetables picked from a self-serve bar. Smoky pork, squid-packed stir-fry and crispy nurungji (scorched rice) at the end made Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap a filling homestyle meal.

After visiting Simhaksan Yakcheonsa temple in Paju and doing some shopping at the Paju outlets, we headed over for dinner at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap (심학산 들꽃쌈밥). Generous, neatly arranged banchan (side dishes), smoky stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid, and nutty stone-pot rice all came together for a really satisfying meal. Overall it was a hearty, solid ssambap spot in Paju, so here's my review 🙌

## Where is Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap, and what are the hours?

![Exterior of Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap on Dolgoji-gil in Paju](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-02-fqhoq-740.webp)

Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is located at 55-10 Dolgoji-gil, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, open daily from 11:00 to 21:00 with a break time from 15:30 to 17:00. Free parking is available right in front of the restaurant, and there's a baby chair too.

It sits in an area near Simhaksan, the Paju Book City, and Lotte Outlet where a lot of restaurants cluster. Like us, if you're visiting Simhaksan or the Paju outlets and looking for a place to eat, it's a convenient stop.

## Parking and wait times: quiet at 6pm on a Saturday

![Free parking space in front of Deulkkot Ssambap](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-03-rsz9l-740.webp)

Deulkkot Ssambap has free parking space right in front of the restaurant, and if it's full you can use a nearby public lot. If parking is tricky, they say you can call the restaurant for help.

We visited around 6pm on a Saturday, and there was plenty of parking space and the interior was relatively quiet too.

![TableManager waitlist device at the entrance of Deulkkot Ssambap](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-04-ejvzg-740.webp)

That said, there seemed to be a wait during lunch hours — a TableManager waitlist device was set up at the entrance, and there was a separate waiting area inside the restaurant.

## What is the dining room like inside?

![Interior of Deulkkot Ssambap with wood-toned decor](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-06-1ey7i-740.webp)

![Dining hall of Deulkkot Ssambap divided into two spaces](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-07-15wvm-740.webp)

Once inside, the space was split into two areas. With interiors done in natural wood, it felt clean and comfortable overall, and the restaurant was fairly spacious.

![Spacious table seating good for family meals](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-08-1jhsm-740.webp)

It looked like a good spot for a family meal too :)

## Menu and the price of the deuljeongsik set

![QR ordering sign on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-09-q088g-740.webp)

![QR ordering screen at Deulkkot Ssambap](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-10-whf19-740.webp)

Ordering was easy with the QR code on the table.

![Set menu board at Deulkkot Ssambap](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-11-1oubk-740.webp)

![À la carte menu board at Deulkkot Ssambap](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-12-auufj-740.webp)

The menu is mainly built around set courses. What we ordered was the 📋deuljeongsik, ₩20,000 per person📋 ✔️a set that comes with stir-fried pork, stir-fried squid, doenjang stew, gangdoenjang, and stone-pot rice.

![Sign for the kkotjeongsik set with atka mackerel and mackerel added](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-13-1twn4-740.webp)

There's also a kkotjeongsik set that adds grilled atka mackerel and mackerel. If you want grilled fish too, or you're visiting with kids, the kkotjeongsik seemed like a good option. There are also à la carte dishes to choose from depending on your taste. In particular, the gangdoenjang and doenjang stew are refillable, which felt like a pretty satisfying deal for ssambap lovers.

## A neatly laid homestyle Korean table

![Neatly arranged basic banchan and doenjang stew set](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-14-7cay0-740.webp)

The basic banchan came out looking really carefully and neatly prepared. Along with those came doenjang stew and pumpkin porridge as a pre-meal appetizer. Overall the side dishes were tidy and clean, giving off exactly the feel of a home-cooked meal. It reminded me of my mom's cooking, haha.

![Self-serve bar for grabbing extra banchan](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-15-d6rsi-740.webp)

You can grab extra banchan from the self-serve bar as much as you want.

### From pumpkin porridge to doenjang stew

The pumpkin porridge served before the meal was pleasantly sweet and smooth, nice for easing into the meal.

![Doenjang stew simmering on the induction burner](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-16-fkbys-740.webp)

The doenjang stew was also generously packed with ingredients and had a rich broth. Best of all, it stayed warm on the induction burner the whole time, so we could enjoy it piping hot throughout the meal.

## Picking ssam greens at the self-serve showcase

![Wrap-vegetable showcase at the self-serve bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-17-9tts2-740.webp)

Since we're at a ssambap place, time to go grab some wrap greens, haha. There's a dedicated showcase for wrap vegetables near the self-serve bar. The vegetables were kept fresh, so I could pick and choose whatever kinds I wanted.

I loaded up on a variety of different ones :) Being able to add as many wrap vegetables as you like was one of the perks of this place.

### Stone-pot rice: scoop it out, add water, wait for nurungji

Right as I came back with the wrap vegetables, the stone-pot rice arrived too. It comes out with the pot brimming with hot rice — you scoop the rice out first, pour in the hot water provided, then put the lid back on and you're done! The nutty stone-pot flavor made even the rice alone taste great, haha.

## How do the stir-fried pork and squid taste?

Finally, the main dishes — stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid — arrived.

![Stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid served with the deuljeongsik set](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-18-17rdr-740.webp)

I tried the stir-fried pork first, with its sauce that was moderately sweet and savory.

![Close-up of the smoky stir-fried pork](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-19-1nggq-740.webp)

It had a subtle smoky char that went great with the wraps. The meat wasn't tough at all, so it went down well with rice, and also tasted great with a bit of gangdoenjang stuffed into the wrap.

![Stir-fried squid packed with generous squid pieces](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-20-ixuxm-740.webp)

The stir-fried squid exceeded expectations too. It wasn't overly spicy, just moderately kicked-up, the kind of flavor that keeps you reaching for more! Best of all, the squid was piled in generously. Going back and forth between the pork and the squid, I never got tired of either — perfect for wrapping into ssam.

### Building a ssam wrap with gangdoenjang

Now it's time to really dig into the wraps, haha. Piling stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid onto lettuce, mixing up the vegetable combos each time — that was part of the fun.

![Wrap vegetable topped with pork and gangdoenjang](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-21-x5s3n-740.webp)

The combo I liked best was adding gangdoenjang in. It wasn't too salty and had great umami, so a little dab in the wrap really brought the flavor to life. I ended up adding gangdoenjang to basically everything, lol.

### Ending the meal with hot nurungji

After working through plenty of wraps, we finished off with the stone-pot nurungji (scorched rice) we'd prepped earlier. Eating the nutty, warm nurungji at the end left us full and rounded off the meal perfectly. Overall, from the banchan to the mains, the stone-pot rice, and the nurungji, it felt like a genuinely hearty full meal.

## Free dessert after the meal: coffee and ice cream

![Snack corner next to the self-serve bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-22-8mlfg-740.webp)

![Coffee machine and ice cream near the entrance](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner/paju-simhaksan-deulkkot-ssambap-saturday-dinner-23-ujeho-740.webp)

Next to the wrap-vegetable showcase there were some light snacks, and near the entrance there was a coffee machine and ice cream ready to go. It was nice being able to enjoy a simple dessert right after the meal!

## Verdict on Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap

Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap, a ssambap spot in Paju, was a great place for a hearty meal with neat, varied banchan, smoky stir-fried pork and squid, and nutty stone-pot rice. Being able to grab fresh wrap vegetables to your taste, plus refillable gangdoenjang and doenjang stew, makes it a great fit for anyone who loves ssam.
