I went to Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch, a Korean set-meal restaurant that's hugely popular in Bucheon. My husband and I are definitely at the middle-aged-couple stage where Korean food just tastes better and better, so I figured this would be right up our alley — and sure enough, the table was so packed with food it nearly buckled. I can confidently recommend this as a great spot in Bucheon!

The restaurant is located in a neighborhood near Gachiul Station packed with good restaurants. As you'd expect from a spot a bit out of the city center, it's a sizeable place.

Heading up to the second floor, the first thing that caught my eye was a hwangmi (yellow) rice-hulling machine at the entrance. Apparently the pot rice served here is made with this exact rice.

As you can see, the dining room is quite spacious. It looked like a great spot for family gatherings or company dinners, and sure enough, the reservation board showed plenty of group bookings — figures. We came on a weekday at an early hour, but by the time we finished eating, the place was already filling up with customers.

## What ₩44,000 buys: set meal for two plus charcoal-grilled pork

You can order the tteuranchae jeongsik set here, but for better value, it's smarter to order the basic tteuranchae bapsang per person and add an à la carte dish on top. We ordered the tteuranchae bapsang set for two plus charcoal-grilled pork. For the two of us, the total came to ₩44,000! Given how many side dishes came out, that's honestly not expensive at all.

After the wait, our table finally arrived! You can see how packed the table is — the main charcoal-grilled pork, pot rice, cheonggukjang, and all sorts of banchan came together for a truly generous Korean set-meal spread.

Above all, the pot rice I'd been so looking forward to! Just as it looks, it was sticky and delicious. And with pot rice, the best move is to scoop out the rice first to eat with the side dishes, then pour the hot water that comes with it into the pot and finish with nurungji (scorched rice) — the ultimate treat 😉

And can you see this?! The sheer number of banchan! Assorted namul, braised potatoes, doraji-muchim (seasoned bellflower root), japchae, fried eggplant — over 10 kinds of side dishes, and every single one was delicious! The doraji-muchim, spinach namul, and braised potatoes especially suited our taste, so we went back for refills 🤍

### Cheonggukjang comes with the set, and refills are free

On top of that, cheonggukjang comes included as standard! The broth was so rich and full-flavored that my husband and I scraped the bowl clean between the two of us. If you run low, the staff will apparently cook up a fresh batch for a refill! We were too full to get a refill ourselves. 😂

### How much charcoal-grilled pork you get as an add-on

And the charcoal-grilled pork we ordered alongside! Apparently it's made from seasoned pork shoulder and foreleg meat, grilled over real charcoal. The portion was plenty generous for two people. With so many banchan already on the table plus this meat, we were completely stuffed.

## Banchan self-bar and ₩5,000 banchan packs to take home

There's also a separate banchan self-bar, so you can eat as much as you like of the standard side dishes. Everything except separate main dishes like the charcoal-grilled pork is refillable! If there's a banchan you want that's not on the bar, you can just ask a staff member.

There's also a fridge in one corner of the restaurant selling banchan and cheonggukjang separately. At a reasonable ₩5,000 per pack! If there's a side dish you loved during your meal, it's a nice option to buy some to take home.

## Is Gim Myeongju worth a meal with parents in Bucheon?

It had been a while since I'd had such a proper, full Korean set-meal spread, and it made for a truly happy meal. I'd especially recommend this as a place to bring your parents — we've already decided to take ours soon.
