## In short

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store is a takeout dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken in a glossy sauce) shop right in the middle of Taejo-ro in Jeonju Hanok Village. After a look around Jeonju Zoo and a walk through the village, the writer bought the spicy dakgangjeong with jjondeugi (chewy rice snack) and a beer slush and ate it all back at the accommodation, where the heat built slowly and settled around Shin Ramyun level. For tourist-area food, the mid-20,000s won price and generous portion at Mannyeon Dakgangjeong felt like good value.

During a Jeonju trip I finally visited Mannyeon Dakgangjeong, a place I'd bookmarked from social media.

After a quick loop around Jeonju Zoo, it was an awkward time to head back to the accommodation right away. So I wandered slowly through the Hanok Village instead.

The old famous spots — Veteran, Ojjang, Gil-geori — were all still there. But every time I go, I end up eating at the same places. This time I wanted something different, and that's how I landed on Mannyeon Dakgangjeong.

I also picked up beer and jjondeugi, but eating on the street felt awkward, so I carried it all back to the room.

I know a lot of people struggle to decide what to eat in the Hanok Village, so here's my write-up of this place.

## Why Mannyeon Dakgangjeong won the writer over

Honestly, I didn't expect much.

I figured tourist-area dakgangjeong would all taste about the same. But after eating it, my opinion shifted.

An addictive spicy flavor... that cuts right through the richness

Plus beer and jjondeugi~ Eating on the street felt awkward, so I ate it at the accommodation instead..!

## Where Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is and what it costs

The shop sits right in the middle of Jeonju Hanok Village.

The menu is organized by spice level, and prices sit in the mid-₩20,000s — reasonable for Jeonju tourist-area food, and it's deliciously spicy.

The jjondeugi and beer slush were tasty too — I gulped them down in the heat.

## How spicy is Mannyeon Dakgangjeong's spicy dakgangjeong?

In a word, Mannyeon's spicy dakgangjeong is about as spicy as Shin Ramyun. It's not a heat that hits all at once — it builds the more you eat.

![Image illustrating the spice level](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeonju-hanok-village-spicy-chicken-gangjeong/jeonju-hanok-village-spicy-chicken-gangjeong-09-uey03-508.webp)

The first bite or two aren't spicy at all. You think, 'this level's totally manageable.'

But keep eating and the heat slowly stacks up. It's not a sudden spike — more like it settles into your mouth gradually.

![Close-up of spicy sauce coating the dakgangjeong](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeonju-hanok-village-spicy-chicken-gangjeong/jeonju-hanok-village-spicy-chicken-gangjeong-10-1sf60-1200.webp)

Then around the halfway point you suddenly go, 'oh, this is spicier than I thought.'

It's the perfect intensity for people who like spicy food but want to avoid anything overly intense. Not the kind that sends you reaching for water — just right for washing down with a sip of beer.

If you're debating spice levels: if you can handle Shin Ramyun without trouble, go for the spicy option. If you're sharing with a kid, the mild level is the better call.

## Dakgangjeong that tastes better once it cools

Right after it's made there's a slight oily feel, but as it cools, the sauce's flavor comes through more and the chicken turns more tender. Letting it cool slowly makes it much tastier.

One serving is plenty for one person but also works well split between friends, haha. Tourist-area food usually charges a lot for not much, but this place really delivered. At night, back at the accommodation, craving something spicy — tteokbokki just leaves you bloated, but spicy dakgangjeong is the best. In the end I walked out with both hands full~

## Is mid-20,000s won good value in a tourist area?

If you want to try tourist-area food during a Jeonju trip but don't want something overpowering, Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is a solid pick. I was satisfied enough that I want to try other flavors on my next Jeonju trip ~ and in the end I also picked up Jeonju's famous moju (spiced rice wine) and Pungnyeon Bakery treats.

## Final verdict on Mannyeon Dakgangjeong

There's so much food in Jeonju Hanok Village that it's hard to decide what to eat, but Mannyeon Dakgangjeong worked well both as a snack and as takeout to eat back at the accommodation. Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store is inside the Hanok Village, so it's easy to stop by mid-route.

Best of all, even though it's dakgangjeong, the meat wasn't dry at all — it was tender inside. The sweet, salty sauce blended well, and with the spicy kick added on top, I kept reaching for more. Being able to choose from mild, spicy, fried and more depending on your taste is also a plus!

It's tasty fresh, but the real charm of dakgangjeong showed once it cooled a bit. The sauce soaked in more and the chewy texture came alive, which also made it well-suited as a takeout dish.

A proper meal like bibimbap or hanjeongsik (full-course Korean meal) is great on a Jeonju trip, but if you're looking for something light to enjoy while walking around the Hanok Village, this is worth a stop. It's especially good for sharing as takeout if you're traveling with a group, so I'd recommend it as a Jeonju trip snack :)
