## In short

Sammi Tantanmyeon Sinchon is a Taiwanese-style Chinese restaurant on Myeongmul-gil in Seodaemun, Seoul, specializing in tantanmyeon (spicy sesame noodles) and lomian (braised-sauce noodles). On a weekend lunch with kids, the writer shared three dishes — honey sauce char siu lomian, char siu tantanmyeon, and a pork and garlic scape rice bowl — and found them clean-tasting despite looking fiery. For heat, char siu tantanmyeon is the pick at Sammi Tantanmyeon; with children, the honey sauce char siu lomian is the answer.

## Sammi Tantanmyeon Sinchon: a weekend lunch at this Sinchon Chinese restaurant

Sammi Tantanmyeon Sinchon is a Taiwanese-style Chinese restaurant on the first floor of 16 Myeongmul-gil, Seodaemun-gu. After a long debate over what to eat for weekend lunch, I headed to Sammi Tantanmyeon, known as one of the go-to Sinchon Chinese restaurants. The moment I walked in, the spacious, pleasant interior caught my eye first.

![Taiwanese-style interior of Sammi Tantanmyeon Sinchon](https://img.superchart.com/images/sinchon-sammi-tantanmyeon-honey-chashu-lomien/sinchon-sammi-tantanmyeon-honey-chashu-lomien-02-6xg43-966.webp)

The interior really felt like actual Taiwan, which put me in a good mood before I even sat down. Right in the middle of Sinchon, yet the vibe felt like a little trip abroad, which made the meal feel extra special. Even with kids in tow, it never felt cramped or noisy — we could eat comfortably. That day we ordered three dishes to share: honey sauce char siu lomian, char siu tantanmyeon, and pork garlic scape rice bowl. When people think of Sinchon Chinese food, jjajangmyeon or jjamppong usually come to mind first, but here the focus is on slightly different dishes like tantanmyeon, lomian, and rice bowls, which made me even more curious.

## How spicy is the char siu tantanmyeon?

Sammi Tantanmyeon's char siu tantanmyeon was definitely spicy. But that made it even more delicious. The addictive chili oil broth paired perfectly with the noodles, and I inhaled it without thinking.

The heat is strong, but the aftertaste isn't heavy, so I kept going back for more. If lomian is the soft, mild option, tantanmyeon is clearly the spicy one — alternating between the two struck a nice balance. This is a dish I'd recommend for a day when you crave something intense or want to blow off steam. On a day I wanted to eat more, adding a bowl of rice to mix into the leftover broth would probably be great — I'm planning to try that myself next time. Like the lomian, the char siu here was tender with no gamey taste, so the meat flavor still came through even in the spicy broth.

## Honey sauce char siu lomian: the dish the kids wanted more of

The dish I fell for first was Sammi Tantanmyeon's honey sauce char siu lomian. The char siu had zero gamey taste and was tender, sweet, and savory — the kids ate it really well. Mine usually picks at meat dishes, but that day she asked for more, so I think it's a dish that really suits kids' palates too.

The sauce coated the medium noodles evenly, and the meat was so good that one bite made my eyes light up. It looks pretty intense visually, but the actual taste isn't intense at all — I was completely won over. It never got tiring even toward the end, so I kept my chopsticks going until the bowl was empty. Even the bok choy on the side was delicious, and I finished every bit. Thanks to the sweet sauce, the kids especially loved it, and it wasn't too heavy for adult tastes either, so the whole family enjoyed it together. If you're looking for Sinchon Chinese food to bring kids to, I really recommend this dish.

## Pork and garlic scape rice bowl: a filling alternative to noodles

Sammi Tantanmyeon's pork garlic scape rice bowl came with a generous amount of both topping and rice, so it was filling on its own. Like the other dishes, it looks intense but tastes clean and delicious all the way through.

The garlic scapes had a strong aroma and crunchy texture, and best of all, the pork wasn't dry — it was moist and paired really well with the rice. Mixing the topping into the rice and taking a big spoonful brought up the garlic scape aroma along with the meat's savoriness together, and I kept eating. I think this dish suits anyone who finds noodle dishes too heavy or who wants a satisfying meal.

## Honest verdict and what to order at Sammi Tantanmyeon Sinchon

What all three dishes at Sammi Tantanmyeon Sinchon have in common is that they look intense but taste clean. If you want spice, go for the char siu tantanmyeon; with kids, the honey sauce char siu lomian; for a hearty meal, the pork garlic scape rice bowl.

- When you want spice → Char siu tantanmyeon (try adding rice to soak up the leftover broth)
- With kids → Honey sauce char siu lomian (sweet, savory, no gamey char siu)
- For a hearty meal → Pork garlic scape rice bowl (generous topping and rice)

The spacious, comfortable space combined with that almost-Taiwan atmosphere made for a fully satisfying weekend lunch. That said, if you're sensitive to spice, the lomian or rice bowl would be easier on you than the tantanmyeon. If you're looking for Sinchon Chinese food, Sammi Tantanmyeon is worth a visit — you won't regret it. I worried whether we'd find seats on a weekend lunch, but the spacious interior let us sit comfortably even with kids. It's a place I can easily recommend for a family meal or a lunch date with friends. Next time, I'm planning to try even more dishes on the menu.
