## In short

Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café on floors 1 to 3 facing Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung, Gangwon. The writer ordered four desserts — corn ice cream (6,500 won), blueberry cream cheese pie, tart au pomme and a Valrhona cacao muffin — and ate them by the floor-to-ceiling windows on the 2nd and 3rd floors, because strong wind had closed the 4th-floor rooftop. Even on an iffy weather day, Baegya Coffee is an easy place to enjoy the ocean view from indoors.

## Where is Baegya Coffee in Gangneung?

Baegya Coffee is a large bakery ocean-view café right in front of Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung. I was traveling around Gangneung looking for a café with a sea view, and that's how I ended up here.

Being right in front of Sageunjin Beach already made the location great, but once I actually got there, it wasn't just a café by the sea — it really deserved the title of a large bakery ocean-view café in Gangneung.

> 📍Baegya Coffee / Address: 607 Haean-ro, Anhyeon-dong 18, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do, South Korea / Hours: Daily 09:00–21:00 (last order 20:30) / Parking: Private lot for the café / Type: Large bakery café / Highlights: Sageunjin Beach ocean view, spacious interior, terrace and rooftop, bakery

## What does the Sageunjin Beach view look like?

Of course, the sea was the main reason I liked this place! Sitting in the café, I could see the ocean spread right out in front of me, and it felt a bit different from other beachfront cafés. There's a breakwater out front, and thanks to that, the waves rolling in looked pretty stunning.

Instead of just gazing at a calm sea, watching the waves crash in kept pulling my eyes back to the window, haha. And this area is also near Gangneung's famous Goblin (Dokkaebi) filming location! It seemed like a great travel course — sea view café plus filming site in one trip.

## Seating and amenities at Baegya Coffee

The building is also much bigger than it looks. It already seemed big from outside, but once inside it was seriously spacious — whoa. You pick your bread and order on the 1st floor, then head upstairs to sit, and each floor has plenty of room to spread out.

I especially liked that there are a lot of floor-to-ceiling windows, so almost any seat gives you a view of the sea. Some places call themselves ocean-view cafés but only a few window seats actually face the water — this wasn't like that. The 2nd and 3rd floors are indoor seating, so you're comfortable regardless of the weather.

There were also restrooms on each floor, which was convenient. At big cafés you sometimes have to go down a floor just to find one, but here they're on both the 2nd and 3rd floors, so no need to go back and forth.

They also had high chairs ready, so it seemed like a fine spot for families with babies too. There's parking, high chairs, and group seating as well.

There was really a lot of bread on the 1st floor too, and I just couldn't walk past it, so I picked out a few things, haha.

## The four desserts ordered at Baegya Coffee

What I ate: corn ice cream, blueberry cream cheese pie, tart au pomme, and a Valrhona cacao muffin — four in total!

While carrying everything up, I noticed the elevator actually has a little shelf built in to hold your tray — such a neat, thoughtful touch, haha.

### Signature corn ice cream at Baegya Coffee

Once I got a seat, I started with Baegya Coffee's signature menu, the corn ice cream. As the name suggests, it's ice cream with corn flavor built in — smooth, sweet ice cream layered with corn's nutty taste.

There were actual corn kernels mixed in, giving little pops of texture here and there, so it was on a totally different level from ice cream that's just corn-flavored. It's currently listed as Baegya Coffee's first signature menu item.

I love corn desserts like this, so I really enjoyed it, haha. The ice cream itself is smooth, and mixed with the savory corn flavor, it worked better than I expected. It also felt like something you could only really get in Gangneung. If you've made it all the way here, this is worth trying at least once.

### Blueberry cream cheese pie

Next, the blueberry cream cheese pie! The crisp, flaky pie texture combined with the tangy-sweet blueberry and the soft, slightly dense cream cheese made a combo that dessert lovers wouldn't dislike.

Thanks to the blueberries, it wasn't just plain sweet — there was a refreshing note in the middle that would go well with coffee too.

### Tart au pomme

I picked up the tart au pomme mostly out of curiosity from the name — for bakery items like this, the balance between the crisp tart shell and the filling matters, and it delivered a nicely sweet dessert experience.

Eating several things together, having a tart like this in the mix kept the overall flavors from feeling monotonous, which I liked, haha.

### Valrhona cacao muffin

The Valrhona cacao muffin is one for chocolate lovers. It had a strong cacao flavor, so it felt less like a sweet bread and more like a proper dose of rich chocolate. The outside had that classic crumbly muffin texture, while the inside had deep cacao flavor — perfect with coffee.

Eating all four together like this was basically a dessert party, hahaha. And with the sea in view, everything somehow went down even better than usual.

## Why was the 4th-floor rooftop closed?

Heading up to the 4th floor takes you to the rooftop space, which has a totally different vibe.

If the weather had cooperated, I would've loved sitting on the rooftop with the wind and the sound of the waves. Being right in front of the sea, just sitting there would've felt like a proper vacation moment.

But on the day I went, it was too windy, so unfortunately the rooftop was closed. They close the rooftop for safety on days with heavy rain or strong wind. Of all days, it had to be windy on the day I visited... so disappointing.

I'd also heard there's a sky-bridge-like spot you can walk up and take photos on, and I was curious about that too, but of course I couldn't use it properly that day either. I really want to come back on a nice day and go up to the rooftop and that area.

Still, the ocean view from indoors was so wide and refreshing that it eased the disappointment quite a bit. Sitting comfortably on the 2nd or 3rd floor, eating bread while watching the waves through the window, time passed easily even without doing much.

## Who will like Baegya Coffee?

Personally, Baegya Coffee felt less like a café for grabbing a quick coffee and more like a large bakery ocean-view café in Gangneung where you settle in and take your time watching the sea.

![Seating by the floor-to-ceiling window at Baegya Coffee with ocean view](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-baekya-coffee-closed-rooftop-desserts/gangneung-baekya-coffee-closed-rooftop-desserts-23-zkvy9-966.webp)

The location right in front of Sageunjin Beach is great, and with the spacious interior and floor-to-ceiling windows, you can enjoy an ocean view indoors even on a slightly iffy weather day. The bread selection is varied enough that a group could each pick something different and share.

![Waves breaking beyond the breakwater in the ocean view from Baegya Coffee](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-baekya-coffee-closed-rooftop-desserts/gangneung-baekya-coffee-closed-rooftop-desserts-24-1ip7s-966.webp)

Most of all, I loved the sight of the waves continuously breaking beyond the breakwater. Grabbing a piece of bread and looking at the sea, taking a spoonful of ice cream and looking at the sea again, haha — you know these are the moments that end up being the most memorable part of a Gangneung trip.

Oh, and I filmed this because it was neat, haha — these days they have automatic doors like this, which was nice for hygiene! Next time I want to time it for good weather and properly enjoy the rooftop too. Missing out on it because of the wind was the biggest letdown this time, haha.

If you're traveling around the Sageunjin Beach area in Gangneung, Baegya Coffee is worth stopping by as a large bakery ocean-view café where you can look at the sea and relax with some bread. It's especially well set up for families to stay comfortably, and it's also a nice spot for couples or friends to take photos and spend time watching the sea.
