## What did we order for a family meal?

While looking for a barbecue restaurant in Daegu for a family meal, I visited Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch (고기9단 침산직영점) because I was curious about the 9dan Set. My family of three had half portions of flower rib meat and hanging tender, along with the 9dan Set. We were happy not only with the meat but also with the side dishes and meal items, so I would like to return with my family.

## Where is it, and what are the parking and hours like?

The address is 197 Chimsannam-ro, Buk-gu, Daegu, South Korea, and the entrance is on the second floor. There is parking accessible from both the front and rear of the restaurant, and it looked fairly spacious when I visited.

The hours listed in the original post are 11:00 AM to 9:50 PM daily. There is a break time from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and last orders are at 9:00 PM.

## How much are the menu items and the 9dan Set?

Lunch specials start at ₩9,000, and meat set meals are also available. There were stews, doenjang soybean paste soup, jjolmyeon (spicy chewy noodles), stone-pot rice, and more to accompany the meat, and they also sold homemade side dishes.

The pork options included fresh pork belly and fresh pork neck, while the beef selection included fresh ribs, seokcheong ribs, hanging tender, flower rib meat, emperor ribs, and marinated ribs. The 9dan Set I had been curious about was ₩18,000 and included yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), kimchi jjigae, jjolmyeon, and sushi rice. I liked being able to have several different items with the meat.

## Is the atmosphere comfortable for families or groups?

When I went up to the second floor, the automatic door and wide entrance made it feel pleasant from the moment I walked in.

The restroom was also near the entrance.

I could watch the meat being cut and weighed as orders came in. The work area, including the cutting board, also looked clean to me.

The table arrangement looked well suited to group gatherings. When I arrived at 6:00 PM, several tables were already occupied, and as I was leaving, I saw customers reserving a group order in advance. I did not notice a strong meat smell during my visit, so the air felt comfortable too.

We were shown to a window seat. It was convenient that plates, cups, tissues, and other items were stored beneath the table, leaving more room on the tabletop.

## What was good about the basic side dishes?

Once we were seated, the basic side dishes arrived one after another. There was more than I expected, and everything was neatly presented.

I noticed the care taken with the variety and colors of the vegetables, including onion, cabbage, chickpeas, and red chili pepper placed over seaweed. My mother said the ingredients' natural flavors came through well and the vegetables were fresh, so she could keep eating the side dishes without tiring of them. She liked them enough to say she would want to come back for our next gathering.

## How did the hanging tender and flower rib meat differ?

We ordered half portions of flower rib meat and hanging tender.

We grilled the hanging tender first. While the meat was cooking, a serving robot brought the 9dan Set, and we set the kimchi jjigae aside in the lower drawer to eat later.

The charcoal heat was strong, so the meat cooked quickly. The hanging tender had a good beefy aroma, and I could taste the juices especially well in the broad, thick pieces. Placing the grilled meat on the set's sushi rice also worked well as beef sushi.

The rib meat was tasty too, but at first I preferred the hanging tender. The piece of rib meat I ate last, however, was especially tender, perhaps because it had better marbling. It was good with just salt, and adding wasabi gave it a different flavor.

## How was the 9dan Set with the meat?

The yukhoe was tender, without any fishy or old taste. Eating it with the vegetables and noodles in the jjolmyeon brought together three textures nicely. The combination of yukhoe over sushi rice was good as well.

After we finished the meat, we boiled the kimchi jjigae that we had set aside. We were already fairly full, so I wondered whether we could finish it.

The kimchi was well fermented, and the broth was not heavy. The pork in it was tasty too, and the portion was generous, so the three of us ended up eating only the stew without rice. The 9dan Set stood out because it included several accompaniments as well as a finish to the meal.

## Would I return for a family gathering?

After the meal, we used mouthwash in the restroom and each had a piece of ppungtwigi for dessert. The three of us took only three pieces, and I wished we had taken one more each. The staff working in neat uniforms also left a good impression.

During this meal, everyone in my family was satisfied not only with the beef and set menu but also with the side dishes that used a variety of vegetables. With its spacious parking and dining area, along with tables that looked suitable for several people, it is a place I will think of again for a family gathering in Chimsan-dong.
