Hansang Charyim Bapsang Sinseol-dong is a Korean set-meal restaurant on the 1st floor of 28 Hanbit-ro, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul. I went because I'd heard there's a place in Sinseol-dong where the hansang (full-table) set comes loaded with banchan (side dishes). It's a spot where you can try lots of different banchan at a great price. Order the bossam (boiled pork wraps) or braised galbi (short ribs) and a generous spread of sides comes with it. Great for lunch or dinner. There's a wide range of set combinations too.

## What comes with the bossam set and the stone-pot galbi set

Once you order, the banchan comes out along with the bossam or braised galbi. There's such a variety of banchan — the whole table gets covered. You'd probably be full just eating rice with the sides alone.

Here's the bossam. It comes with kimchi, tofu, bossam, and dried radish strips. Great to eat alongside the bossam.

Here's the braised galbi. A generous portion, with carrots and radish mixed in. Sweet-flavored.

### How many banchan come with a set meal?

So many types of banchan come out: jinmichae (seasoned dried shredded squid), gochujang-marinated pepper mix, ssamu (pickled radish for wraps), chive salad, tofu, myeong-i namul (wild garlic leaves), bracken fern, lotus root, salted squid, salad, bean sprouts, quail eggs, perilla leaves, corn salad, stir-fried fish cake, and more. There was so much banchan I couldn't even finish it all.

A piping hot doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) came out too. It's rich and savory with meat and shrimp in it. Great with the nurungji, and also good eaten with just rice and the stew alone.

I ate the tofu, bossam, and dried radish strips together. Great value for money — you get to eat meat along with a generous spread of banchan.

## Stone-pot rice and the nurungji at the end

The stone-pot rice arrived. Stone-pot rice these days is really chewy and delicious. If a restaurant has stone-pot rice as an option, I tend to order it. Pour water in and it turns into nurungji (scorched rice tea) — something everyone from kids to adults loves.

The braised galbi is tender. Good wrapped in lettuce too.

With so many banchan, it's great to eat them with rice too. I had the salted squid with rice.

Jinmichae and fried crab. Total rice thief. The strong gochujang flavor in the jinmichae is exactly my style.
