After a family outing in Bundang last weekend, we stopped by Myeongyeok, a Korean restaurant near Sunae that serves chicken katsu with a feel that's a step up from regular donkatsu.

## What kind of place is Myeongyeok Bundang Sunae?

Myeongyeok is also a kalguksu specialist near Sunae Station, so the chicken kalguksu and naengmyeon are famous too — pairing them with the katsu turned out even better than I expected, and the prices were reasonable too. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good meal near Sunae Station.

We arrived around 7pm on a Saturday, and right after we sat down the place filled up completely. Since chicken katsu is on the menu, there were a lot of families with kids and group parties, just like us!

Fitting for a Sunae Station kalguksu spot, every table has a guide on how to best enjoy the chicken kalguksu and half-chicken kalguksu. And since the self-serve bar has unlimited rice, you can still get plenty of rice even if you order noodle soup — a nice touch.

## Myeongyeok menu, what we ordered and the self-serve bar

The menu board centers on chicken kalguksu and naengmyeon with set options, so rather than ordering everything separately, it's better to get a set that includes chicken tenderloin katsu or a chicken katsu burger.

For guests with kids, cute spoon sets are standard, and they even give out kids' seaweed and vitamin C — no wonder families keep coming back to this Sunae Korean restaurant :)

From the self-serve bar we grabbed pickled radish and kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi), and later some rice too — they also serve house-made napa cabbage kimchi separately, which I figured would go great with the kalguksu ♥️

## Mul naengmyeon and chicken tenderloin katsu set, 13,900 won

The first dish out was the mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) and chicken tenderloin katsu — confirmed that Myeongyeok is good at both kalguksu and naengmyeon near Sunae Station. I hadn't even tried the kalguksu yet, but one bite of the naengmyeon already won me over 😊

The portion of noodles was huge and the broth was seasoned just right — a refreshing naengmyeon that didn't even need mustard or vinegar.

The chicken tenderloin katsu that came with it was crispy and meant to be made into a burger, as pictured — since coming out as a hamburger lover, I'm always into this kind of chicken katsu burger, so I cleared the whole thing haha.

## Half-chicken kalguksu, 11,900 won: the perilla oil sauce is for the noodles only

The second signature dish at this Sunae Station kalguksu spot: the half-chicken kalguksu you see in the photo!!! Next to it is a perilla oil sauce, and they told us mixing the noodles into the sauce tastes best — but I did the opposite and mixed the sauce into the soup lol. The broth here is seriously delicious, and as they explained, dipping just the noodles in the perilla sauce (not adding it to the broth) is the better way to eat it — so don't make my mistake, readers!

There was a big half-chicken in the bowl, which made the ₩11,900 price hard to believe. The noodles were well-cooked and the portion was generous enough to be a full meal on its own — this dish alone earns Myeongyeok its title as a true Sunae Station kalguksu spot. With the weather getting chilly, I'm craving soup dishes like this more often, and this half-chicken kalguksu is exactly the kind of thing I'll be thinking about once it gets colder!

## Western-style mixed chicken katsu, 10,900 won: order it if you bring kids

The last dish was the Western-style mixed chicken katsu, made up of 2 pieces of chicken tenderloin and 1 piece of chicken breast — a must-order if you have kids! The katsu meat was extremely tender, and in my opinion it beats regular donkatsu.

The melt-in-your-mouth chicken tenderloin katsu was cut into kid-friendly pieces — crispy outside, tender inside. It made me realize tenderloin, whether chicken or pork, is just always delicious ^0^ (and the sauce was great too!!)

This piece is chicken breast, even bigger than the tenderloin — I expected it to be dry since it's breast meat, but nope! Despite being noticeably thicker, it was just as tender as the tenderloin, impressing the adults as much as the kids.

With a rare Western-style chicken katsu plus top-tier kalguksu and naengmyeon, this is a great place to visit regularly — if you're looking for a Sunae Station kalguksu spot or a solid Korean restaurant, I'd recommend Myeongyeok. Really enjoyed the meal haha.
