## In short

Suksudaega is a hanok hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal) restaurant on Gangbyeon-ro in Anjung-eup, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. In a reserved private room we ate the wanggalbijjim (braised beef short rib) set for two, which opened with eungi (thin starch porridge) and dongchimi radish water kimchi, moved through seasonal salad, Korean beef yukhoe (tartare) and tteokgalbi, then gave each person a bowl with two rib bones and plenty of broth. Spooning that rib broth over freshly cooked cauldron rice was the highlight of the meal at Suksudaega.

I went to Suksudaega, a hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal course) and wine spot in Pyeongtaek, and had the 'wanggalbijjim set for 2.' In a quiet, elegant hanok setting, I was treated to a whole spread of Korean dishes made carefully with seasonal ingredients.

## Suksudaega hours and amenities

- Open daily 11:30–20:50 (break time 15:30–17:30), last order 14:00 / 19:20
- Baby chairs, separate men's/women's restrooms, Wi-Fi, reservations, parking

## Parking and the hanok exterior at Suksudaega

Suksudaega sits along a two-lane road in Anjung-eup, Pyeongtaek, and there's a spacious dedicated parking lot right in front, so it was really convenient to drive there.

From the entrance, you can already sense a cozy, refined traditional beauty — a gorgeous old pine tree and a water wheel out front made it obvious even before I walked in that 'this is a hanjeongsik place.'

## Booking a private room and the interior mood

Many people prefer a private room where they can enjoy a meal quietly and intimately, and since we had booked ahead, we were seated straight into our assigned room.

The biggest advantage was that once the door closed, outside noise disappeared, letting us focus on conversation and the meal in total privacy.

## How the braised rib set for two arrives

The wanggalbijjim (braised beef short rib) set for 2 isn't just a plate of braised ribs plopped on the table — true to a well-known Pyeongtaek hanjeongsik house, it's a perfectly flowing full spread starting with appetizers, followed by neat side dishes, the braised ribs, cauldron rice, and doenjang soup.

![Full view of the wanggalbijjim set for two](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-anjung-galbijjim-hanjeongsik-sukusudaega/pyeongtaek-anjung-galbijjim-hanjeongsik-sukusudaega-11-y7gsg-900.webp)

### Starting with eungi porridge and dongchimi

It began with a specialty uni (porridge) and dongchimi (radish water kimchi). The sweet pumpkin porridge and the refreshing dongchimi broth felt like they gently prepared my stomach before the meal ahead.

### Seasonal salad, perilla leaf jeon and shrimp with pine nuts

Once the porridge was done, the table filled with neatly plated appetizer-style dishes — seasonal salad, vinegared salad, perilla leaf pancake, and shrimp with pine nut salad, all waking up a sleepy appetite.

### Korean beef yukhoe, royal-court bulgogi cold plate, japchae and tteokgalbi

Then the meal moved into full swing with Korean beef yukhoe (tartare), a royal-court bulgogi cold platter, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), and Korean beef tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties). Every single dish had its own character, made with the chef's care — it really felt like being given royal treatment.

## Two rib bones, the broth and the cauldron rice

The star of the wanggalbijjim set — the braised ribs — was served individually, one bowl per person, with two big rib bones each and a generous amount of broth.

At first I wondered why there was so much broth, but one spoonful and I understood immediately. Mixed into rice, it was an absolute rice thief. The ribs themselves were delicious, but the broth had me thinking 'how can this taste so good?' almost instantly.

Each of us also got our own freshly cooked, piping-hot cauldron rice. Since it had just been made, the rice was noticeably excellent.

### Side dishes, doenjang soup and plum tea to finish

Along with the cauldron rice came a separate side dish and a small individual doenjang (soybean paste) soup — a great way to round off the meal.

For dessert, they served plum tea separately. There's a coffee, tea, and ice machine near the checkout counter, so you can help yourself as you like.

## Is the braised rib set at Suksudaega worth it?

I tried the wanggalbijjim set for 2 at Suksudaega, a hanjeongsik spot in Pyeongtaek, and eating a neat, full course made with the chef's care in a serene, scenic, upscale hanok really left me feeling properly treated and well fed.

If you haven't yet visited Suksudaega, a hanjeongsik restaurant in Anjung-eup, Pyeongtaek, definitely give it a try. It'll be a visit you won't regret.
