I think everyone living in Seoul or the greater metro area has at least one or two places they end up going back to again and again. I'm the same way. Olla Poke Munjeong Main Branch is one of my favorite poke spots among the Munjeong restaurants, and once again, I braved the lingering late-summer heat to go pick up takeout.

The location is pretty solid. Since it's near a business district full of office workers, there's always this lively buzz around it that I like. But once you step inside, it feels like a quiet different world — almost like a modern office model home — a mood I think a lot of women would enjoy.

## Inside Olla Poke: the half-open kitchen and seating

I liked that there are outlets scattered throughout the store at Olla Poke Munjeong Main Branch. Even on weekday afternoons, there are plenty of young women dropping by for a comfortable meal, and as someone of the same generation and gender, it's a place that always puts me at ease whenever I visit. This location's kitchen is half-open, enclosed in glass, which makes it look even more tidy.

There's a clear reason for building the kitchen half-open like this — it lets you see part of the poke prep process. And honestly, the neatly stacked, trimmed ingredients were impressive.

## Super Protein Poke and Buldak Octopus Poke for exactly ₩20,000

After browsing the kiosk for a bit, as always I went with the Super Protein Poke (₩14,000) plus one added boiled egg (₩1,000). And as always, I threw in my beloved Buldak Octopus Poke (₩5,000). Put together like this it comes to exactly ₩20,000 — and on hungrier days I sometimes eat this whole thing in one meal.

Other times I save the octopus poke for the next day. Either way, it feels like a solid, well-rounded meal, and the fact that everything is barely cooked, close-to-natural raw ingredients is this place's strength. That's one of the reasons this Munjeong poke hotspot keeps pulling me back as a regular.

## How well does the Olla Poke takeout packaging hold up?

One reason I've become a regular at Olla Poke Munjeong Main Branch is that their takeout system is genuinely professional. The paper bowls are well-coated so the ingredients don't shift around or get soaked with sauce, and the sauce containers are all clear, clean material so you can see exactly what's inside — a real plus.

I hurried it home, tied it up tight in a bag, and stuffed it into a big eco bag. Even with all the shaking around, nothing mixed together at all, which I find kind of amazing. Everything was packed so densely and neatly that the food didn't shift around much.

## What I add to the poke bowls at home

Once I bring it home like this, I like adding extra sauce or perilla seed powder on top. If you're looking to get some omega-3s in, adding a bit of olive oil could work well too, or using Greek yogurt as a sauce. Making sure you get enough protein — that's just common sense at this point.

It's technically cold rice, but somehow it doesn't feel all that cold, which is another plus. Even with raw fish in the mix, adding a cooked protein like a boiled egg balances out the whole cold-and-warm dish nicely.

## Why Olla Poke Munjeong is a once-a-month stop

Among Munjeong restaurants, this place would be hard to beat for cleanliness. There's some kind of magic that pulls me back once a month, and I think it comes down to their thorough hygiene standards addressing the usual doubts about eating out — "restaurants can be dirty" or "you never know what went into the cooking." There's even a sticker with the proud claim "smell it first" and "it smells like fresh salad," which somehow made me trust it even more.

It's a rare find in the Gangnam area — not too expensive, clean, and serving close-to-natural food. I think this habit of mine is going to continue for a while.
