## In short

Sindaebakjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Branch (signed Sinjjangdak) is a cast-iron dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken stew) restaurant one minute on foot from Exit 6 of Gwangmyeong Sageori Station in Gyeonggi. A couple ordered the aged-kimchi cast-iron dakdoritang for two at 18,500 won per person with ramyeon noodles, cheese and 1,000-won fish cake skewers, then asked for a broth refill to dunk the skewers and eat them with the aged kimchi. With fried rice to finish, Sindaebakjip works well for group dinners or drinks near Gwangmyeong Sageori.

This place uses only domestic chicken and is known for its cast-iron dakbokkeumtang — the house-made sauce is packed with savory depth and totally addictive. Let's get into this Gwangmyeong Sageori restaurant review :)

## Sindaebakjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Branch (Sinjjangdak): the basics

## How to walk there from Gwangmyeong Sageori Station, and where to park

Sindaebakjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Branch is about a 1-minute walk from Exit 6 of Gwangmyeong Sageori Station, so it's very accessible. It's registered on Naver Place as 'Sindaebakjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Branch,' but the actual storefront sign reads 'Sinjjangdak Cast-Iron Dakdoritang' — good to know before you visit!

The parking lot is behind the building but pretty cramped, so I used a nearby public parking lot instead. There are several public lots around, so it wasn't a hassle to park and walk over.

## Is Sindaebakjip a good place for a group dinner?

The interior of Sindaebakjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Branch is set up with long tables, making it a great spot for group gatherings. It'd also be perfect if you're looking for a company dinner spot around Gwangmyeong Sageori. Even on a weekday there were a lot of customers, so we waited a bit before getting a table — which only made me more curious how good it would be, haha.

*Self-serve bar*

There's a self-serve bar on one side. Since it's for the basic side dishes, you can casually grab more if you run out.

## What two people ordered at Sindaebakjip, and what it cost

![Menu board and price list at Sindaebakjip Gwangmyeong Sageori Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-07-1jrkb-900.webp)
*Menu and prices*

For two people we ordered: the signature aged-kimchi cast-iron chicken stew ₩18,500 x 2, fish cake skewers ₩1,000 x 2, ramyeon noodle add-on ₩2,000, and cheese add-on ₩4,000. Since it's a dakbokkeumtang specialist, the main menu only has two options, but there's a good variety of side dishes like potato pancake and add-ons to mix in depending on your taste.

## Which side dishes come with the chicken stew

![Basic side dish spread with cabbage and white kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-08-1j8o5-900.webp)

![Side dishes including garlic scapes served with the chicken stew](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-09-1bjju-900.webp)

The basic side dishes were sweet, crunchy cabbage, refreshing white kimchi (baek-kimchi), and sweet-and-spicy garlic scapes — a lineup that pairs really well with dakbokkeumtang overall.

## How the aged-kimchi cast-iron dakdoritang tastes

They cook the dakbokkeumtang in a drum-can cast-iron lid right in the open kitchen, so you can watch the whole cooking process — which made it feel even more trustworthy.

*Aged-kimchi cast-iron chicken stew*

When the chicken stew comes out, they cut the aged kimchi into bite-sized pieces for you. If it's your first visit, I recommend the aged-kimchi cast-iron chicken stew! The aged kimchi is genuinely delicious — wrapping it around the chicken gives you insane savory flavor...!

![Cast-iron chicken stew simmering with added ramyeon noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-11-wwi8l-900.webp)

I added the ramyeon noodles from the start, and they came out already at the perfect chewy texture to eat right away. Since you keep simmering it at the table, the sauce gets richer as the broth reduces, making it taste even better as you go!

I added one cheese portion worried it'd be too spicy, but the cast-iron chicken stew portion was so generous that the cheese looked relatively small in comparison, haha. For someone who can't handle spice well, it wasn't too spicy at all — just a slight kick, easy to eat.

![Large cast-iron chicken stew topped with cheese add-on](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-12-hrp81-900.webp)

Can you tell how big the cast-iron pot is? I couldn't get too close since it was still cooking, but in person it's truly massive! Just looking at it feels satisfying.

![Chicken stew meat with plenty of meat on the bone](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-13-129u7-900.webp)

The chicken comes fully cooked, so all you have to do is eat — nice and easy. They use large chickens, so there's a lot of meat on the bone, and it's tender, which made it even tastier.

![Sauce-soaked ramyeon noodles lifted out of the pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-14-th9ca-900.webp)

I tried the ramyeon noodles first — the sauce had soaked in perfectly, so good! It was so good I considered adding another portion, but since the chicken stew portion was already so huge, I skipped it worried we wouldn't finish, haha. Highly recommend the ramyeon add-on!

![Chicken stew with a large drumstick on top](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-15-1fvby-900.webp)

The chicken drumsticks were also huge. The dakbokkeumtang sauce is deep and rich with a moderately spicy kick — I could see why it's become a well-known Gwangmyeong Sageori restaurant.

![Wrapping chicken meat in aged kimchi to eat](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-16-dcian-900.webp)

![Sliced aged kimchi paired with the chicken stew](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-17-xrwhb-900.webp)

The chicken is delicious on its own, but wrapping it in aged kimchi like a lettuce wrap really amps up the savory flavor. The aged kimchi itself has a subtle sweetness, so I kept piling it on.

![Chicken stew meat topped with white kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-19-hi39s-900.webp)

I also tried the chicken meat topped with each side dish one at a time — every combination worked perfectly.

![Fluffy cooked potatoes in the chicken stew](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-21-digdl-900.webp)

The potatoes in dakbokkeumtang are always so good, right! There were quite a lot of them too, cooked big and fluffy with a great texture.

### Adding fish cake skewers and asking for a broth refill

We each had a fish cake skewer too, and since I already love fish cake skewers, it was exactly my taste. As soon as we finished, we added two more, haha.

As the broth kept reducing, they gave us a broth refill. I took the extra fish cake off the skewer, dunked it deep in the broth, coated it generously in sauce, and ate it with the aged kimchi — this was seriously a hidden gem...! Fish cake skewers with dakbokkeumtang, what a genius combo, the owner's got great taste, honestly.

![Richly reduced broth in the chicken stew pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-22-6wxbw-900.webp)

My husband kept scooping up the broth and drinking it, so I tried it too — the broth was truly rich and deep. It's perfect as an anju (drinking snack), so anyone who enjoys drinking would love this too!

## Finishing the pot with fried rice

We were already full from the dakbokkeumtang, but after tasting the sauce, I really wanted to try the fried rice too. We only ordered one portion, but it came out in a really generous amount. Above all, the way they fried it with such skilled hand movements was something else...!

![Finishing fried rice spread thin in the cast-iron pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi/gwangmyeong-sageori-dak-bokkeumtang-odeng-kkochi-23-af4rx-900.webp)

They spread it thin in the cast-iron pot and told us to flip it after a bit and eat. This fried rice is pure nuttiness, seriously...!! You have to try the fried rice too!

And the aged kimchi combo is essential even with the fried rice! It was so good I wanted to take the aged kimchi home with me, haha. We cleared everything from the dakbokkeumtang to the fried rice and walked out stuffed.
