Lately, as the weather's gotten chillier, I've been craving hot soup to boost my energy. And honestly, nothing beats galbitang (short rib soup) for that. So I finally visited Hoegi Wang Galbitang, a place I'd had my eye on while passing through the area near Kyung Hee University. I always got pulled in by the deep broth smell whenever I walked by, thinking I'd have to try it someday — and I finally did.

It's really close to Hoegi Station, so it was super accessible. The big sign on the building's exterior caught my eye from far away, so it wasn't hard to find at all.

The phrase "a bowl of good-for-you soup" and the copy about how "when you're tired of hangover soup and sick of sundae-guk, sometimes galbitang is the answer" were pretty memorable — it felt like they'd read my mind exactly, haha.

When I arrived in front of the restaurant, the clean, tidy exterior caught my eye. The clear "Hoegi Wang Galbitang" sign was easy to spot from a distance, so finding the place was really easy. It's about a 10-minute walk from Hoegi Station, so it's totally manageable by public transit too.

What I liked most was that there's a parking lot right in front of the restaurant! Considering most Hoegi Station restaurants are hard to park at, this is a real advantage. That said, the parking space isn't very generous, so public transit is probably still the better option. It was lunchtime and there were quite a few customers, but tables turned over quickly so I got seated without waiting.

## An interior built for solo dining, with single seats

Walking through the door, the inside was just as neatly arranged as the outside. Warm wood-tone furniture paired with soft lighting gave it a cozy feel.

I thought it was really thoughtful that they have separate seating specifically for solo diners. The single-seat tables face the window, so I could eat comfortably without worrying about anyone's eyes on me.

I ordered the Gigyeok Hoebok Teuk Wang Galbitang. There's a kiosk at every table, which made ordering convenient and easy. You can even pay right from your seat, so there's no hassle after you finish eating.

The earthenware bowl was packed with big short rib bones and ox bones, topped with egg garnish and green onion — the colors and the aroma were both lovely.

What surprised me most was the meat. It was so tender it fell right off with just a light touch of the chopsticks. I even had fun picking off every last bit clinging to the bone.

The broth, clear and translucent yet deeply flavorful, felt soothing just to look at. It was clean and rich without any gamey smell, so it went down easily.

The kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) that came alongside is apparently made in-house, as noted at the restaurant — tangy and sweet, it paired really well with the broth. Adding the cheongyang chili peppers and onion gave it an extra kick that really got the appetite going.

The broth was mild yet savory, the kind that keeps your spoon moving. Mixing rice into it and topping it with kimchi and kkakdugi, my chilly body warmed up fast and I felt energy flooding back in. Hard to imagine a more satisfying meal.

On the way out after finishing my meal, I spotted a self-serve misutgaru (roasted grain powder drink) corner and mixed myself a cup — and this was seriously the highlight.
