## In short

India The Durbar Samseong Station Branch is an Indian and Nepali restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, near Samseong Station and COEX. After visiting the COEX Aquarium, I had Set C and samosas for 40,000 won, with mild curries and a brazier that kept everything warm to the last bite. Verdict: a generous, easygoing Indian curry dinner near Samseong Station.

## Indian curry near Samseong Station after the COEX Aquarium

After having such a fun time at the COEX Aquarium, we were absolutely starving. While deciding what to have for dinner, we settled on Indian curry for the first time in ages. Actually, this was a restaurant a friend had recommended when I used to work in Samseong-dong, and I had saved it on my map. I kept thinking I should visit someday, and I finally did this time.

Walk down the stairs and the Taj Mahal of India welcomes you right away. India The Durbar Samseong Station Branch is an authentic restaurant where you can take in the flavors of India and Nepal, and it is said to be known for curries and tandoori dishes cooked directly by local chefs. Even though we visited late on a weekday evening, lots of foreign guests who seemed to be locals were dining there. Seeing that really gave the place an authentic feel.

## Inside India The Durbar Samseong Station Branch and its solo set

The restaurant was neat and comfortable. There were plenty of tables, with seating for two, four, and six, so it looked like a nice place for Samseong Station office workers to come for lunch, too.

There were also people visiting alone near Samseong Station. The solo set is ₩15,000, with a good price and a substantial selection. It seemed like an easy place to come alone and enjoy a curry meal.

## Ordering Set C and samosas

We ordered India The Durbar Set C and added samosas as an appetizer.

- Curry choices: choose 2 from palak paneer, butter chicken, and chicken tikka masala

## Dinner from samosas to Set C

The basic sides were dressed onions, pickled radish, and jalapeños.

First came the chicken mushroom soup. It went down smoothly and had a lovely savory richness that was just right for my taste. It was great for gently settling the stomach before really starting the meal. Totally my style—I almost asked for another bowl..

These are the samosas we ordered as an appetizer: Indian and Nepali dumplings made with potatoes, vegetables, and spices.

The wrapper was crisply fried, so the texture was great. The spices were subtle rather than strong, making this an appetizer anyone could enjoy without much debate. Delicious!

While we were enjoying the appetizer, our India The Durbar Set C arrived! It was laid out so generously that it filled the table. At ₩40,000, it comes with two curries and tandoori chicken, so you can try a variety of Indian dishes and it felt like good value, too.

### Boneless tandoori chicken was easy to eat

Tandoori chicken is barbecue chicken marinated overnight in traditional Indian spices and cooked in a tandoor oven.

![Boneless tandoori chicken barbecue](https://img.superchart.com/images/samseong-coex-curry-set-india-derbar/samseong-coex-curry-set-india-derbar-18-1cvbb-900.webp)

The tandoori chicken came boneless, so I loved that there were no bones to pick around and it was easy to eat. It was the kind of flavor that made me want a beer, but I quieted that craving with cola instead....

### Which curry I preferred: butter chicken or chicken tikka masala

India The Durbar Set C lets you choose two curries. We chose butter chicken and chicken tikka masala.

Butter chicken is a mild chicken curry flavored with fresh tomatoes, cream, and spices. Its soft, savory richness was excellent, and the spice aroma was not overwhelming, so I think even first-time Indian curry eaters could enjoy it comfortably!

Chicken tikka masala is a curry with easy-to-eat boneless tandoori chicken. Its smooth, deep curry flavor had a gentle tang to it, and it felt like a flavor any Korean person would love! I enjoyed both curries, but personally, I liked the chicken tikka masala more.

There were big chunks of chicken in it, and it was even better piled onto rice and naan.

A brazier beneath the curry bowls kept them warm throughout the meal, so we could enjoy hot curry right to the end!

![Curry bowls kept warm over a brazier](https://img.superchart.com/images/samseong-coex-curry-set-india-derbar/samseong-coex-curry-set-india-derbar-23-19ihr-900.webp)

This is the naan included in the set. Naan is traditional Indian bread baked in a tandoor oven. It was huge and hot, so we cut it into manageable pieces with scissors, haha.

Naan dipped in curry is delicious, but maybe because I am Korean after all, I preferred mixing curry into rice, haha. I guess living abroad would be hard for me. Rice is the best... I mixed plenty of chicken tikka masala into the rice and ate until I was full..

Even though I am sensitive to spices, I enjoyed everything without feeling overwhelmed. For office workers around Samseong Station wondering what to have for lunch, couples deciding where to go for dinner after a COEX date, and foreign visitors missing home—I'd recommend India The Durbar Samseong Station Branch to anyone wanting Indian curry!
