## In short

Sushi Hibi is an 8-seat counter sushi omakase restaurant a 5-minute walk from Exit 4 of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station in Seoul. The ₩50,000 weekday lunch course ran from chawanmushi and stone octopus seaweed salad, flounder sashimi, and grilled Spanish mackerel to squid, sea bream, horse mackerel, monkfish liver, and conger eel nigiri, futomaki, udon and tamago, and a sorbet made from the chef's brother's own strawberries. A satisfying, well-priced entry point into omakase, with generous portions and warm service.

Hey everyone! Today I'm introducing a place near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station where you can get a really good quality sushi omakase for just ₩50,000.

Honestly, when omakase is priced low I always worry a bit — cheap is nice, but will the quality actually be good? This place nailed price, taste, and service all at once, so I was really satisfied and already want to go back. Here's my review of an amazing value omakase at Sushi Hibi, a well-known sushi omakase spot in Yeongdeungpo!

Sushi Hibi, a sushi omakase spot in Yeongdeungpo, opened this past April, and it's already gotten famous in the area for great ingredients and flavor relative to the price!

Maybe because it's new, the interior felt clean and tidy, and there wasn't even a hint of that fishy smell sushi places sometimes have. Inside there's a cozy counter seating about 8 people, which made it great for chatting, and the chef explained things with a lot of wit, so the whole meal felt lively and fun.

The beer tap used premium Yebisu, by the way~ If you like beer, pairing it with the sushi seems like a great idea.

## The ₩50,000 lunch and ₩100,000 dinner menu

*Sushi Hibi's omakase menu in Yeongdeungpo*

The menu at Sushi Hibi is kept simple — ₩50,000 for lunch, ₩100,000 for dinner — and it's split into two seatings, which was nice because I could pick the time slot I preferred!

What stood out was that the price is the same on weekdays and weekends, which made me think weekend visits must have quite a wait, haha. The price is also fairly gentle for a sushi omakase, so it feels like a good spot for a special occasion without too much burden. Since I visited on a weekday for lunch, I ordered the ₩50,000 lunch omakase.

## Chawanmushi, stone octopus seaweed salad, flounder sashimi, grilled mackerel, and miso soup

![Chawanmushi with shrimp](https://img.superchart.com/images/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet-12-1um17-966.webp)

*Stone octopus seaweed salad*

The first dish out was chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard), and the pudding-like softness was really lovely — I was surprised at how plump the shrimp was, haha. The texture was fantastic~ The mild sweet-savory balance really got my appetite going.

Next came a dish of seaweed, chives, and stone octopus with a tangy sauce, which was a bigger delight than I expected. The chewy texture of the octopus, the freshness of the seaweed, and the tangy sauce all came together and just woke my mouth right up. Turns out the stone octopus in it was caught by the chef's own father... it was so springy and delicious. The main course hadn't even come out yet and I was already this impressed, so my expectations kept rising.

![Two pieces of flounder sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet-14-1gp35-966.webp)
*Flounder sashimi*

![Golden grilled Spanish mackerel with sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet-15-s0rsh-966.webp)
*Grilled Spanish mackerel*

![Miso soup with mushrooms](https://img.superchart.com/images/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet-16-x646v-966.webp)
*Miso soup*

Next up were two pieces of flounder sashimi — one to dip in salt and wasabi, the other in soy sauce and wasabi. The flounder itself was so fresh, and both ways of eating it were delicious.

After that came grilled Spanish mackerel, golden and nicely charred, and pairing it with the accompanying sauce added a refreshing brightness that made it feel like a whole different dish. The mackerel's savory richness plus the crisp brightness of ponzu made for a really tasty bite!

And before the sushi started, a bowl of miso soup came out too. It had mushrooms in it and the broth had more depth than I expected, so it was nice to sip something warm in between courses.

## The sushi omakase lineup and my honest thoughts

![A piece of nigiri from the omakase course](https://img.superchart.com/images/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet-17-3pd48-966.webp)

![A piece of nigiri midway through the omakase](https://img.superchart.com/images/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet-19-e85gm-966.webp)

![Nigiri from Sushi Hibi's lunch omakase](https://img.superchart.com/images/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet-20-1740m-1200.webp)

![Futomaki packed full of ingredients](https://img.superchart.com/images/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet-21-qf6q8-966.webp)

Ta-da! The main sushi finally arrived, haha. The first piece was squid nigiri, and it was interesting that they mixed in sesame seeds — it started off mild and clean, which built up my anticipation for what was coming next.

Next was sea bream nigiri — since the fish itself was so good, you could really feel its springy texture. And the horse mackerel nigiri had a bit of scallion on top. It melted softly in the mouth while still delivering incredible umami.

Then came the monkfish liver nigiri, with a generous amount piled on top of the rice, so one bite filled my whole mouth in the best way. After that, the amberjack (kanpachi) nigiri wasn't the typically fatty style you'd expect from yellowtail — it was relatively light and clean-tasting.

Next was sweet shrimp nigiri, and the shrimp's sweetness was on a whole other level, haha. I could taste the freshness of the ingredients in every single piece. After that came akami (lean tuna) nigiri, which had been soaked in soy sauce before serving, giving it great umami, and it melted right in my mouth, haha.

The mackerel nigiri was clean with almost no fishy taste at all~ I really love mackerel so this one was an absolute favorite. Next up was the conger eel (anago) nigiri, and this one was truly special~ It had a more refined flavor than anago nigiri I've had elsewhere. The flesh was soft and the sweet glaze paired perfectly with it — I really enjoyed it.

And finally, no omakase feels complete without futomaki (thick seaweed roll), and you could tell just by looking that it was packed full! It was stuffed with ingredients and made for a great finishing bite.

## Udon, tamago, and strawberry sorbet made from the chef's brother's farm

![Udon served at the end of the course](https://img.superchart.com/images/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet-22-1bbcq-966.webp)
*Udon*

![Castella-like tamago rolled omelet](https://img.superchart.com/images/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet-23-167re-966.webp)
*Tamago*

![Strawberry sorbet made from homegrown strawberries](https://img.superchart.com/images/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet/sushi-hibi-yeongdeungpo-lunch-omakase-strawberry-sorbet-24-1aioo-966.webp)
*Strawberry sorbet*

After finishing all the sushi, udon arrived — the broth was rich and the noodles had a distinct texture, so even though I was already full, it went down easily, haha. The tamago (rolled omelet) was so springy and sweet too, almost like castella cake made of egg.

The strawberry sorbet, apparently, was made from strawberries grown by the chef's own brother, who runs a strawberry farm!! No sugar added — just strawberries, lemon, and water — but it wasn't overly sweet at all and the strawberry flavor really came through, so I enjoyed it a lot. The chef kept sharing fun stories throughout, so the meal never felt boring and it turned into a really enjoyable dining experience.

## Overall thoughts on the ₩50,000 lunch omakase

Overall, considering the price point of a ₩50,000 lunch omakase, the lineup felt substantial and each dish was quite satisfying. Starting with chawanmushi and seaweed salad to whet the appetite, then moving through sashimi, grilled fish, a variety of sushi, futomaki, udon, tamago, and finishing with strawberry sorbet — it ended up being more filling than I expected.

Best of all, it's close to Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station so it's easy to get to, and at ₩50,000 for lunch it seems like a great option for people trying omakase for the first time or looking for a sushi omakase that doesn't feel like a big splurge. If you're searching for omakase or sushi restaurants in Yeongdeungpo, I'd recommend giving Sushi Hibi's lunch omakase a try. I left quite satisfied that day and I'd love to come back for dinner next time.
