I found out that Hyeonseonine, the tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) spot I loved in Yongsan, has a branch in Yeouido too! After shopping at IFC Mall, I picked up an instant tteokbokki set for two to take home.

## Where is Hyeonseonine Premium in IFC Mall, and how to walk there from Yeouido Station

Hyeonseonine's IFC Mall branch is on B2 of IFC Mall, near Yeouido Station Exit 3. It's easy to find if you come down the underground stairs. Since it connects to both IFC Mall and Yeouido Station, access was really convenient.

## Why order the instant tteokbokki set for two uncooked on a first visit

Hyeonseonine's IFC Mall branch serves à la carte, set, and instant menu items. I'd tried the Hyeonseoni Set before — tteokbokki, fried snacks, sundae (blood sausage), and gimbap (seaweed rice roll) — at the Yongsan flagship, and it was so good I came back haha. This time, since I planned to eat at home in the evening, I got the instant set for two, uncooked.

If it's your first visit, I'd personally recommend starting with the basic tteokbokki! It's bold and spicy and really good haha. (If you're weak with spice, go for mild or medium — even medium was plenty spicy, as I recall.)

## Lunchtime at Hyeonseonine: solo diners and Han River takeout

It was lunchtime and almost everyone was eating alone; you can eat inside or outside, so just grab whichever seat suits you. A lot of people seemed to be taking food to go to eat at Yeouido Hangang Park. Makes sense — snack food always tastes great on a picnic 😉

## What comes in the uncooked instant tteokbokki set for two

Since it was uncooked, it came out in under 5 minutes and they packed it in a cute paper bag. The instant tteokbokki lets you choose mild, medium, or spicy — I went with medium.

Packed uncooked, it came with vegetables, liquid sauce, rice cakes, fish cake, 2 eggs, 4 yakimandu (fried dumplings), ramyeon noodles, chili powder, and a drink. It was packed sturdily, so it seems good even for taking on a camping trip! And even though I asked for medium, they threw in extra chili powder in case I wanted it spicier.

## How to boil the Hyeonseonine tteokbokki pack at home (serves 2)

- Pour the liquid sauce and 600ml of water into a pot and bring to a boil
- Once the sauce is boiling, add the vegetables, rice cakes, and noodles and mix
- Once the rice cakes puff up, lower the heat and simmer 2 more minutes
- * The sauce disappears fast, so eat the noodles first

Even a total kitchen disaster like me could pull this off easily 😋

Following the recipe, it took under 10 minutes to cook. It's as easy as making ramyeon, so don't worry!

## How spicy is medium? Cabbage sweetness and add-on tips

It's a generous portion — enough for two people to eat until they're stuffed. The sauce was sweet and spicy, the classic instant tteokbokki flavor. Maybe because there's more topping in the instant version compared to the basic tteokbokki, it seemed noticeably less spicy even at the same level.

If you want to add more toppings, you can add extra sauce plus 400ml of water and boil it together. Personally I think cheese or sausage would go great with it! They don't give extra sauce automatically, so it's worth asking when you order.

Also, the sweetness wasn't from sugar — because there was so much vegetable topping, there was a gentle natural sweetness from the cabbage, which made it even tastier. There was so much vegetable already in there that I didn't feel the need to add more. (And I'm someone who always adds extra cabbage to Yeoppeuni Tteokbokki.)

I usually eat the mild version at Yeoppeuni Tteokbokki, and even medium here wasn't spicy at all, so it was tastier with extra chili powder sprinkled on. The rice cakes are wheat-based, so they're chewy, and having 2 whole boiled eggs in there was a nice touch. Also, a lot of places make bad yakimandu, but these were genuinely great, and getting 4 of them was a plus haha. If you don't like yakimandu going soggy, lightly toasting them in an air fryer before dipping works well too.

The regular tteokbokki was great, and this instant version is great too — it's a solid snack food spot. If you're eating alone in Yeouido or craving tteokbokki, I'd recommend it :)
