A local favorite in Garak-dong I hadn't visited in a while! I stopped by Hanyang Dak Kalguksu (한양닭칼국수) Main Branch. Here's my honest review of this spot known for its deep, rich chicken broth that reminds you of a tonic soup 😋

## How close is Hanyang Dak Kalguksu to Gyeongchal Hospital Station?

Hanyang Dak Kalguksu Main Branch is located at 4 Songi-ro 23-gil, 1st floor, Songpa-gu, Seoul, South Korea. This Garak-dong favorite is right at Exit 4 of Gyeongchal Hospital Station, an incredibly convenient location. It's also close to Garak Market Station, so accessibility is excellent.

The interior was spacious enough that it looked like it could handle groups too. High chairs are also available, so it works for family meals!

Plenty of seats and a clean setup made it a pleasant place to eat. At the self-serve bar, you can grab as many side dishes as you'd like.

The self-serve bar has lids on everything, so it's run hygienically — you could tell they put real effort into it.

There was danmuji (pickled radish), kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), and kimchi, and interestingly, the kimchi came in spicy and less-spicy versions. Just a heads up, the spicy kimchi is a full five-star spice level, so I'd recommend the less-spicy one! 😭

This Garak Market favorite simmers its chicken broth for 12 hours every single day! On top of that, they use homemade domestic kimchi and house-made noodles fermented with enzymes — a true restaurant aiming for a hearty, healthy meal.

Domestic kimchi is hard to find these days, but since they make it fresh every day, the flavor was excellent too!

The advantage is that you can choose your own garnish and spice level, so you can customize your meal exactly how you like.

Personally, I prefer this kind of thick, rich chicken broth over a clear one, so this was exactly my taste.

The dak kalguksu made with house-made noodles! Generous portion, and the noodles were nice and springy 😋

The chicken garnish was also quite generous, giving a good protein boost. The broth was rich but not overpowering, clean and easy to keep spooning up — I think I just kept eating it nonstop haha.

You can add pepper and salt on the side to your taste.

The seasoning was already spot-on so I didn't need the salt, but adding a good amount of pepper brought out even more savory depth. I eat quite a lot, and the noodle portion was huge, so it was really filling.

The kimchi was also crisp and fresh, not too spicy or too sweet — just the right kimchi to pair with kalguksu! It went really well as a side dish 😍

## Galbi mandu, 6 pieces for 6,900 won: is it good value?

These plump dumplings are seriously good value! They're big and look really appetizing too.

Eating them while still hot, you could really taste the sweet, savory juice from the galbi filling. I dipped them into the soy sauce that comes on the side too.

The mandu were quite substantial, so I think one order would be enough for two people to share.

## Final verdict: is Hanyang Dak Kalguksu worth a return solo visit?

Hanyang Dak Kalguksu Main Branch is a true Garak-dong favorite where you can feel the tremendous care put into even a single bowl of chicken noodle soup. Even though it's noodles, the house-made noodles left me feeling light and comfortable afterward. Above all, the broth was clean with no gamey smell yet rich, and the homemade kimchi was truly delicious 😆 This felt like a genuine Garak Market favorite I'll be coming back to often!
