## In short

Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch is a Korean restaurant near Sokcho Beach and the Sokcho Eye Ferris wheel serving buckwheat makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles). Craving something cool and clean during a Gangwon-do trip, the writer ordered the signature perilla oil buckwheat makguksu, and the noodles — cut fresh to order — paired with the nutty perilla oil and perilla seed powder without being overwhelming. Add suyuk (boiled pork slices), potato pancake and buckwheat crepe, and it makes for a hearty travel meal.

Hello!!! It's Cell Cherry haha. I'm going to start posting my recent Gangwon-do trip bit by bit. My body feels like lead and I keep procrastinating, but I'll post them one by one haha.

## A makguksu place near Sokcho Beach, easy to fit into your route

When traveling in Sokcho, I think makguksu (buckwheat cold noodles) is one of the dishes you absolutely have to try if you're in Gangwon-do. On a day when I was craving something cool and clean, I visited Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch. It's close to Sokcho Beach, so it was easy to fit into the travel route, and with the Sokcho Eye Ferris wheel and various attractions nearby, it was great to look around before or after the meal.

The restaurant had a clean, comfortable atmosphere. It's a place that draws not just tourists but plenty of makguksu lovers, so customers kept streaming in during meal hours. Still, table turnover was relatively fast, so it wasn't stressful to visit while traveling.

## Which buckwheat menu to choose

The biggest draw of Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch is definitely the variety of buckwheat-based menus. From the basic buckwheat makguksu to pollack sashimi buckwheat makguksu and perilla oil buckwheat makguksu, there was something for every preference. Among them, the perilla oil buckwheat makguksu — the signature menu here — was the one I was most eager to try.

### How did the perilla oil buckwheat makguksu taste?

The moment the dish arrived, the nutty aroma of perilla oil hit me first. Laver flakes, perilla seed powder, and perilla leaves were scattered over the buckwheat noodles, making it look appetizing even before the first bite. After mixing the noodles well and taking a bite, the rich nuttiness of the perilla oil and the clean, plain flavor of the buckwheat went really well together.

If you prefer the natural nutty, plain flavor of ingredients over strong seasoning, I think you'd especially enjoy this. At first I just savored the nutty flavor on its own, then mixed in extra toppings to taste, so I never got tired of it through the whole bowl.

## The texture of buckwheat noodles cut fresh to order

The buckwheat noodles themselves were impressive too. Since the noodles are cut fresh right after ordering, the texture was excellent — not too heavy or overwhelming, so it was easy to eat cleanly. When traveling, you end up eating all sorts of rich food, so a dish this plain yet filling felt especially welcome.

There were also plenty of good side dishes to pair with it. Makguksu is great on its own, but ordering suyuk, potato pancake, or buckwheat crepe alongside makes for a much more generous spread. The combination of makguksu and suyuk in particular was a great match — a tender slice of suyuk paired with the plain buckwheat noodles brought together contrasting textures and flavors in harmony.

### Adding potato pancake to the mix

Potato pancake is another dish that really captures the feel of a Gangwon-do trip, so it's great to order alongside. Crispy yet chewy potato pancake paired with the cool makguksu makes the whole spread feel even more generous. If you're visiting with family or a group, I'd recommend ordering a variety of side dishes to share.

What I also liked about Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch is that you can enjoy the many different sides of makguksu. If you like the sweet, tangy, refreshing style, the basic buckwheat makguksu is a good choice, and if you want something a bit more special and nutty, the perilla oil buckwheat makguksu should satisfy just as much.

## Good location and parking for travelers

Above all, being located near Sokcho Beach made this a really convenient spot for travelers. It's great for a cool bowl of makguksu after seeing the sea, and also convenient to visit after walking around Sokcho Eye. If you're driving, there's a public parking lot nearby, making it easy to stop by while traveling.
