## In short

Daedae Myeonok is a naengmyeon (cold noodle) and mandu jeongol (dumpling hot pot) restaurant on Gosan-ro in Gosan-dong, Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi. Best known for cold noodles, Daedae Myeonok was the choice on a day that called for hot broth, so the aromsatae (beef shank) mandu jeongol, 32,000 won for two, was ordered as four servings and finished with dumplings, fish cakes and kalguksu noodles. The meal ended with a stop at the shop corner inside Daedae Myeonok for sesame oil and black beans, making it a visit worth remembering.

I went to Uijeongbu to eat mandu jeongol (dumpling hot pot) at Daedae Myeonok :) The place is famous for its naengmyeon (cold noodles), so I considered going for that, but that day I was craving hot soup, so I ordered the aromsatae mandu jeongol instead.

It was packed with aromsatae (beef shank), dumplings, mushrooms, and vegetables, and at the end we even added kalguksu noodles, so the two of us left pretty full.

Daedae Myeonok is located in the Gosan-dong area of Uijeongbu. We came by car, and there was space to park right in front of the restaurant.

Walking inside, the place was bigger than I expected, with plenty of tables — it looked like a good spot for family or friend gatherings too.

Looking at the menu, there was more variety than just naengmyeon — suyuk, mandu, and jikhwa yangnyeom gui too. We ordered the aromsatae mandu jeongol that day. It's priced at ₩32,000 for 2 servings, and we ordered it as 4 servings. 😆

## Side dishes from the self-serve corner

![Basic side dishes set out at Daedae Myeonok](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok-08-g0ojp-900.webp)

After ordering, the basic side dishes were set out first. More could be grabbed from the self-serve corner if you ran out. Since the jeongol itself was packed with ingredients, we ended up focusing mostly on the hot pot rather than piling on extra side dishes.

## What arrives with the aromsatae mandu jeongol for four

![A pot of aromsatae mandu jeongol for 4, packed with ingredients](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok-12-1dkma-900.webp)
*The 4-serving aromsatae mandu jeongol comes with 4 dumplings each*

Here's the aromsatae mandu jeongol, finally out. The pot was packed with ingredients — it looked hearty from the very first glance haha. Plenty of aromsatae, plus dumplings, mushrooms, vegetables, and fish cakes, so it was fun picking through everything one by one.

### The aromsatae (beef shank)

![Thick-cut aromsatae beef shank](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok-13-1ci0s-900.webp)
*The aromsatae comes already cooked*

The aromsatae was sliced into easy-to-eat pieces. It was good to eat on its own, with the broth, or dipped in the accompanying sauce. The slices weren't paper-thin either — they had some thickness, giving a nice chew.

### The mandu (dumplings)

![A large kimchi mandu inside the jeongol](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok-14-wetsn-900.webp)
*The kimchi mandu is a bit spicy!*

The dumplings were on the larger side too. Both meat mandu and kimchi mandu were included, so we tried one of each — as the broth simmered, the flavor soaked into the dumplings.

![A dumpling lifted out, soaked in broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok-15-w4gmx-900.webp)

We love dumplings, so between the meat, the mandu, and spoonfuls of broth, our chopsticks kept going back for more haha.

### The broth

![The mandu jeongol broth simmering with mushrooms and vegetables](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok-16-1ayih-900.webp)
*Once it starts boiling, it's ready to eat quickly*

Besides the aromsatae and mandu, the broth also had mushrooms and vegetables in it.
*The fish cakes come separately — the staff added them in partway through!
As everything kept simmering, the broth got richer little by little. After eating most of the meat and dumplings, there was still broth left, so we finished with kalguksu noodles.

### Kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) to finish

![Kalguksu noodles boiled in the leftover broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok-17-3rop0-900.webp)
*They remove the solid ingredients and boil the kalguksu for you*

Of course, jeongol has to end with kalguksu :) We added the noodles into the remaining broth and boiled them — since the broth had already simmered with everything else, the flavor soaked right into the noodles. I hadn't originally planned to eat kalguksu too, but once we added it, it went down easily haha.

Finishing with noodles made the meal feel much more filling than just the aromsatae and mandu alone.

## Sesame oil, beans and nurungji sold inside Daedae Myeonok

After finishing our meal, we were about to leave but decided to look around the inside of the store a bit more. Besides the ingredients used in the restaurant, they were also selling products like sesame oil, beans, and nurungji (scorched rice).

![Sesame oil and nurungji display inside the store](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok-18-1noq9-m-900.webp)
*Sesame oil and nurungji for sale*

Looking around after our meal, there were more things worth buying than I expected, so we couldn't just walk past haha.

### The sesame oil

![Daedae Myeonok X Uri Nongsan sesame oil, 180ml](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok-19-vip0k-900.webp)
*Picked up a bottle of sesame oil!*

What I bought was the Daedae Myeonok X Uri Nongsan sesame oil. It came in a 180ml bottle, with several bottles lined up inside the store. With products like this available for purchase, it seems like some customers come for a meal and end up taking home ingredients too.

### The black beans

![Black beans displayed in bags](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok-20-vjkl2-900.webp)

I also picked up some beans. One side of the store had various grains and ingredients displayed in bags, and we chose black beans from among them. I thought we'd just come in, eat, and leave — I never expected to end up buying sesame oil and beans too haha.

![Nurungji snacks and roasted seoritae beans on display](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok-21-1dqzb-900.webp)
*Snacks and roasted seoritae beans*

Besides sesame oil and beans, they also sold nurungji. From the photo, you can see white rice, glutinous rice, nurungji, and five-grain varieties displayed, priced at ₩7,000. It was surprisingly fun to browse these products after the meal.

## Free ice cream and the tea-time corner

![A spot with dessert ice cream and coffee](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok/uijeongbu-gosan-dumpling-hotpot-dadaemyeonok-22-ruv5n-900.webp)

After finishing our meal, there was ice cream and coffee on the way out, so I tried some too! haha It's a nice spot to spend a little time, so I took some photos — I thought this would be a great restaurant to visit with kids or family gatherings :)

## Was the visit to Daedae Myeonok worth it?

This time I visited Daedae Myeonok in Uijeongbu for mandu jeongol. I had always thought of it as a naengmyeon place, but going in person, I found the aromsatae mandu jeongol on the menu too — a good choice on a day when I wanted something warm.

With aromsatae and dumplings together, plus mushrooms, vegetables, and fish cakes, there was a lot to pick through, and adding kalguksu at the end made the meal plenty filling. Browsing the store after eating and ending up buying sesame oil and beans was also a memorable part of this visit haha. I didn't get to try the naengmyeon this time, so next time I'd like to order either mul-naengmyeon or bibim-naengmyeon.

- You can eat aromsatae and mandu together
- Plenty of variety with mushrooms, vegetables, fish cakes, and more
- You can finish with kalguksu noodles
- Menu options beyond naengmyeon, including suyuk and mandu
- You can browse products like sesame oil, beans, and nurungji

### What could be better

There wasn't anything particularly inconvenient about this visit. That said, I didn't get to try Daedae Myeonok's signature naengmyeon this time, so I can't really speak to the taste of the cold noodles. I'd like to try the naengmyeon on my next visit :)

This time, instead of the naengmyeon that Daedae Myeonok is known for in Uijeongbu, I tried the aromsatae mandu jeongol. Being able to eat meat and dumplings together, then finish with kalguksu, made it a good option for a group meal. After eating, we bought sesame oil and beans from the store and brought them home — there was more to browse than I expected, so taking a lap around the store rather than leaving right after the meal was worthwhile. Next time, I want to come back for the naengmyeon :)

### Who Daedae Myeonok suits best

- Those looking for mandu jeongol in Uijeongbu
- Those who want to eat aromsatae and mandu together
- Those searching for a good naengmyeon spot in Uijeongbu
- Those looking for a place to eat with family or friends
- Those who want a hearty meal centered on jeongol
