## In short

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a pork rice noodle soup (gogi guksu) restaurant right in front of Handam Beach in Aewol, Jeju. After a 3-night, 4-day trip around southwestern Jeju, this was the last lunch before an afternoon flight: bone-broth pork noodle soup and pork mandu (dumplings) eaten at a window seat with a view of Handam Beach. With 1 hour of parking support at Aewol Handam Parking Lot, Handam Guksu is an easy stop on the way to the airport.

## Why Handam Guksu was the last lunch before the airport

After spending three nights, four days traveling around southwest Jeju, I was craving pork noodle soup (gogi guksu) for my last lunch before flying back to the mainland in the afternoon, so I stopped by Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch. It's a well-known spot in the Aewol tourist area, so it was easy to visit during my Jeju trip. And right in front of it — Handam Beach 🌊💙

### Parking option 1: in front of Handam Guksu

🚗 There's parking for about 6 cars in front of the restaurant. I got there before noon and it was already full.

### Parking option 2: Aewol Handam Parking Lot, next to Randy's Donuts

🚗 We parked here, and it was convenient since it's just a 1-minute walk from the restaurant. It shares the lot with Randy's Donuts Aewol Branch. If you park here and let the restaurant know, you get up to 1 hour free.

## Weekday lunch at Handam Guksu: atmosphere and waiting time

Even on a Tuesday lunch, it was quite busy — this place has a reputation as a local favorite. There could be a wait on weekends 🚨 (reservations are possible / more on that at the end). The interior was clean, and the floor-to-ceiling windows made it feel open and pleasant.

Each table has its own kiosk for ordering, so it was easy to check the menu and order. A window seat was open, and I made sure to grab it — the view of Handam Beach was gorgeous 👍

## What we ordered: bone-broth pork noodle soup and pork mandu

We were craving a clean, savory bowl of pork noodle soup, so we went with the bone-broth pork noodle soup (sagol gogi guksu). And we couldn't skip the pork mandu (dumplings), so we ordered those too ✨ Interestingly, they also have a mala pork noodle soup, and a dongchimi (radish water kimchi) bibim noodle that seems perfect for hot summer days. If you're craving something spicy and hot, go for the mala version; if you want something cool and tangy, try the dongchimi bibim noodles. I'm planning to try the dongchimi bibim noodles next time 🫶

### What's on the self-serve side dish bar

Side dishes are available at the self-serve bar. There was napa cabbage kimchi, pickled dried radish (mu-mallaengi), and peppers. Small plates and scissors were also available there if you need them.

These were simple, well-made side dishes that paired nicely with the pork noodle soup. In particular, this was my first time trying mu-mallaengi as a pickle rather than a kimchi — the umami from the soy sauce dressing was amazing 🫶

## How the bone-broth pork noodle soup tasted

💛 Bone-broth pork noodle soup and pork mandu 💛 Mouthwatering just from the look of it 🤤

The noodles are thin somyeon (wheat noodles), but the portion was so generous I couldn't finish the whole bowl 😅 (they felt like soft corn noodles). The milky bone broth had little fat, so it was light on the stomach and clean-tasting 👍

![Lifting up the thin noodles in the bone-broth pork noodle soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/handam-noodles-aewol-last-lunch/handam-noodles-aewol-last-lunch-15-12atw-900.webp)

The best bite is the thinly sliced Jeju pork, bean sprouts, and noodles all together 🥺 The rich bone broth is savory but has no gamy smell, making it a flavor everyone — young and old — can enjoy without hesitation.

It comes pre-seasoned, but you can add pepper or seasoning sauce on the table according to your taste.

![Thin-wrapped pork mandu with the filling visible through the skin](https://img.superchart.com/images/handam-noodles-aewol-last-lunch/handam-noodles-aewol-last-lunch-18-3ipma-900.webp)

### Pork mandu and the other side menus

And highly recommended — the pork mandu. Full or not, you have to try the mandu ❗️ The wrapper is so thin you can see the filling through it, and the filling — packed with Jeju pork and chives — was really delicious. Besides mandu, there are other side dishes like "dombe naengsuyuk" (cold sliced pork) and "handmade pork tteokgalbi" (pork patty), both made with Jeju pork, so I'll have to stop by Handam Guksu each time I'm in Jeju and try them one by one.

## How to book a table at Handam Guksu

You can reserve through Catch Table and Naver Reservation. There can be a wait on weekends, so I'd recommend booking ahead before visiting.

If you're planning a trip to west Jeju, looking for a restaurant with an ocean view, or want a pork noodle soup that everyone — young and old — will like, I recommend Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch.
