## What craft did we do at home with my child during school break?

During school break, the academy was on break too, and there were days when it was awkward to head outside, so I looked for something to do at home with my child. I wanted us to spend time together making something with our hands.

I remembered making a terrarium in a one-day class with my child before. I still remembered how intently my child enjoyed touching the soil and placing the moss.

We had even kept some of the objects left over from that time, so this time we decided to make one again at home with the Poreomoment Terrarium Kit.

## What comes in the kit, and how did we make it?

The kit included masato gravel, potting soil, volcanic rocks, silk moss, a fern, a glass dome, and figurines. Everything was neatly organized, so the process was not difficult.

First, we laid down the masato gravel.

Then we poured potting soil over it.

We shaped the landscape with the potting soil and arranged the volcanic rocks. Then we added the moss, plants, and objects.

## How did my child respond to making it?

My child tried each step personally and wondered, “Would this look pretty here?” There was less interest in putting things in predetermined spots and more in thinking through an arrangement they wanted.

My child naturally focused throughout the making process and did not think about a smartphone or TV. As a parent, I was happy too, spending time touching the materials with our hands and talking together.

## What did the finished terrarium feel like at home?

With soil, moss, and tiny plants tucked neatly inside the glass, it felt like a little space of nature. Placing it in one corner of the living room or beside my child's desk made the atmosphere at home feel different.

Living in the city, my child does not get many chances to experience nature, so it was nice to observe the colors and textures of plants up close. We also tried arranging it with only the kit contents, leaving out the objects we already had at home. It had a cute little rabbit-country feeling.

I especially liked the combination of silk moss and fern. The green color and soft texture of the silk moss were lovely, and I did not feel too intimidated about handling plants while making it.

The moist, calm atmosphere of the finished moss terrarium made me feel at ease. Making it was fun, but I kept looking at it for quite a while afterward too.

## What else did we talk about besides making it?

My child and I talked about the role of soil, the environment plants need to grow, and how much water they need. Questions about why too much water is not good and why moss needs to stay moist turned the craft into observation and conversation.

Rather than rushing to finish, I loved taking time to touch the materials and consider the arrangement. For us, this terrarium we made while laughing and talking together became an activity worth remembering from school break.
