## In short

Obongjip Samseong Branch is a Korean restaurant on Teheran-ro 81-gil, near the food street by COEX South Gate in Gangnam, Seoul. Instead of the fire-grilled octopus stir-fry, this visit ordered the maesaengi yeonpo-bossam (seaweed soup with boiled pork) set for 62,000 won, which runs through yeonpotang soup, bossam, porridge and kalguksu noodles in one order, and Obongjip's private rooms and group tables were busy with company dinners. Obongjip Samseong is a solid pick when you want a soothing broth-based Korean meal rather than something spicy.

If you want a hearty Korean meal near Samseong Station and you've only ever thought of spicy octopus stir-fry or bossam (boiled pork wraps), let me recommend something a little different this time.

This time I visited Obongjip Samseong Branch, a well-known spot near COEX. Most people think of the fire-grilled octopus stir-fry, bossam, and the Obongjip Special when they hear the name — but this time I went for something a bit unusual: the maesaengi yeonpo-bossam!

It's fairly close to Samseong-jungang Station Exit 5, and also walkable from Samseong Station. It could also be a good option if you're looking for a filling Korean meal near the COEX Starfield Mall. For parking, there are nearby paid parking lots you can use.

Most people think of the fire-grilled octopus stir-fry, bossam, and the Obongjip Special when they hear the name — but this time I went for something a bit unusual: the maesaengi yeonpo-bossam! It costs ₩62,000. But once I saw what came with it, it turned out to be way more filling than I expected. From the seaweed hot pot to bossam, and finally porridge and noodles at the end! Ordering just one menu item meant I got to enjoy a meal from start to finish — such a satisfying, well-rounded set.

## Private rooms and group tables: how does Obongjip work for a company dinner?

Walking into Obongjip Samseong Branch, the space felt spacious and clean overall. The tables had fairly generous spacing too, so I could eat comfortably. There are also rooms and group seating, which seemed well-suited not just for office workers' lunches but also for evening company dinners or gatherings with several people.

On this visit, I actually saw quite a lot of group customers. I could see why this place is a popular choice for company dinners near Samseong Station — you get to enjoy generous portions of Korean food that's unlikely to divide opinion.

## What comes with the 62,000-won maesaengi yeonpo-bossam set?

The menu I ordered this time was the maesaengi yeonpo-bossam for ₩62,000. Its biggest strength is that ordering just this one dish lets you enjoy a whole variety of food together.

- Yeonpotang (seaweed hot pot)
- Bossam (boiled pork wraps)
- Porridge
- Kalguksu (knife-cut noodles)

The flow goes: yeonpotang + bossam + porridge + kalguksu, all packed in. You start with the refreshing yeonpotang, follow it with tender bossam, and finish with kalguksu and porridge — a truly filling meal. It felt especially good for sharing among a group, centered around a warm soup dish.

### Obongjip's maesaengi yeonpotang: clean, refreshing seaweed soup

The dish I was most looking forward to was the yeonpotang made with maesaengi (fine green seaweed). Seeing the broth bubbling away felt just right for this slightly cooler weather we've been having lately. The maesaengi made the broth even softer and more refreshing — I really liked it.

The clean signature taste of yeonpotang, paired with the refreshing umami of seafood, made it the kind of dish you'd crave on a day when you want warm, comforting Korean food instead of something intense.

Spicy, punchy dishes like octopus stir-fry are great too, but on a day like this when I wanted something soothing and warm, the maesaengi yeonpo-bossam really hit the spot.

![Plate of bossam served alongside the yeonpotang](https://img.superchart.com/images/obongjip-samseong-maesaengi-yeonpo-bossam/obongjip-samseong-maesaengi-yeonpo-bossam-18-1d4g6-966.webp)

![Glossy bossam and kimchi at Obongjip Samseong Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/obongjip-samseong-maesaengi-yeonpo-bossam/obongjip-samseong-maesaengi-yeonpo-bossam-19-qbqzz-966.webp)

### Soft, tender bossam (boiled pork with wraps)

The bossam that came with the yeonpotang was also unmissable. The pork was tender with no gamey smell, and its glossy sheen looked appetizing right away. The texture wasn't dry at all — soft and tender to bite into.

Bossam really is best eaten with kimchi! Pairing the sweet, savory kimchi with the tender pork made every bite really satisfying. Between the warm-yet-refreshing yeonpotang and the clean-tasting bossam, the combination worked really well. A spoonful of broth, a bite of bossam, a bit of kimchi on the side — it reminds you all over again why Korean food never gets old no matter how much you eat.

![Kalguksu noodles simmered in the leftover yeonpotang broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/obongjip-samseong-maesaengi-yeonpo-bossam/obongjip-samseong-maesaengi-yeonpo-bossam-21-sb22l-966.webp)

### Finishing the set with a generous pot of kalguksu noodles

The real charm of the maesaengi yeonpo-bossam is that the meal doesn't end there. After enjoying the yeonpotang for a while, you can go on to finish it off with kalguksu. Adding the noodles into that delicious broth meant the noodles soaked up all that flavor — it felt like eating a whole new dish.

Even after finishing the bossam and yeonpotang, there was still kalguksu to enjoy, which really drove home how generous the portions are. I think that's exactly why this set is such a good choice for a filling meal when you're dining with a group.
