I wanted a clean, non-overpowering Korean meal in Pyeongtaek, so I went to Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu (고려물총칼국수), haha. From clams to kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), boiled pork, napa cabbage dumplings, and fried rice! It was so fun enjoying everything one by one in order, and it was such a thoughtfully prepared meal. As I walked out, I thought, I really have to bring my parents here next time^^

## Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu location and parking

It is on the first floor at 730 Pyeongnam-ro, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do. Hours are 10:30–21:00.

There is a parking tower beside the building, so it was convenient to visit by car. It is in Pyeongtaek's Bijeon-dong area, a nice location for a family meal! The outdoor parking is on the second floor, though the ramp up is a little steep.

## A spacious restaurant for family meals and groups

The restaurant is really spacious! I was surprised at how big it was as soon as I walked in, haha. They say it is over 100 pyeong in size, and the tables were well spaced out; everything felt clean and comfortable. It looked great for a family meal or a visit with a larger group.

You can even see the kitchen where they make the kalguksu noodles in-house! There are children's chairs too, so Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu is a great Pyeongtaek spot for families and groups :)

## Set for two: what is included and the price

We ordered the set for two! The set for two is ₩38,000.

![Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu set for two](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-clam-noodle-course/pyeongtaek-clam-noodle-course-06-1j65a-550.webp)

It includes one serving of kalguksu or goldongmyeon, napa cabbage dumplings, and pear-leaf medicinal boiled pork. At first, since it was a set for two with only one serving of kalguksu, I wondered whether there would be enough food. But that thought completely disappeared as we ate, haha. With clams, boiled pork, dumplings, kalguksu, and fried rice, we were seriously full. They also have individual dishes beyond the set menu, so I recommend it for lunch in Pyeongtaek too!

### Using the self-service bar

- Cabbage and radish pickles
- Aged kimchi
- Cho-gochujang (sweet-tangy chili sauce)
- Salt and pepper
- Extra broth is available too

## What is the order for eating Mulchong Kalguksu?

How to enjoy Mulchong Kalguksu! They give you a guide to the eating order here, so you can simply follow it, haha.

![Guide to the Mulchong Kalguksu eating order](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-clam-noodle-course/pyeongtaek-clam-noodle-course-12-1j5tj-550.webp)

- Step 1, remove the clams: Once the kalguksu arrives, take out the clams first and shell them one by one.
- Step 2, add the noodles and cook for 5 minutes: Add the noodles to the broth after removing the clams, then flip the hourglass and wait exactly 5 minutes! I shelled clams and ate the boiled pork and napa cabbage dumplings while the noodles cooked, so the time flew by, haha.
- Step 3, eat the kalguksu: After 5 minutes, scoop out the noodles and enjoy them with kimchi! The broth drawn from the clams was refreshing and packed with savory flavor.
- Step 4, make Four Seasons fried rice: Once you finish the kalguksu, remove the remaining broth and make fried rice. I recommend leaving about one ladleful of broth to fry with it!!

It was moist and had soaked up that clam-broth flavor, so delicious, haha. Clams → boiled pork and napa cabbage dumplings → kalguksu → fried rice: it was fun enjoying each part like a course meal^^

## First, clams!

First, you take out and eat the clams in the pot. It has Manila clams from Gochang and mussels from Tongyeong, and the broth was so refreshing from all the savory flavor the shellfish released. It was not a strongly seasoned broth, but clean and refreshing—the kind you keep spooning up! Shelling each clam was quietly fun too, haha.

## Pear-leaf medicinal boiled pork and napa cabbage dumplings

I ate the pear-leaf medicinal boiled pork along with the clams. They say it is made by boiling domestic grade-one five-layer pork belly with Pyeongtaek pear-tree leaves. It was tender, clean, and free of any gamey smell, so it paired nicely with the kalguksu, haha. Having boiled pork between the clams made the whole spread feel much more abundant.

Flourless napa cabbage dumplings—and these napa cabbage dumplings were what I really loved! Instead of a typical flour dumpling wrapper, napa cabbage serves as the wrapper. So they had a crisp cabbage texture, a moist filling, and felt light even after eating, haha. Other than the kalguksu noodles, there was hardly any flour-based food, so the whole meal felt easy on the stomach! I think my parents would love these too^^

## Once the clams are gone, add the kalguksu!

Once you have taken out and eaten most of the clams, it is finally time for the kalguksu, haha. Add the noodles, flip the hourglass timer, and wait 5 minutes! If you shell the remaining clams and eat the boiled pork and napa cabbage dumplings while you wait, it goes by quickly, haha. They say the noodles are made in-house from dough at the restaurant, and the chewy noodles were delicious after soaking up the clam broth. Kalguksu absolutely needs a bite topped with kimchi!!

## Finish with fried rice!

Even after finishing the kalguksu, it is not over, haha. Remove almost all of the remaining broth, then make fried rice to finish. Here is my tip!! Leave about one ladleful of broth and fry it together. It is not too dry, and the moisture plus the savory clam-broth flavor makes it delicious, haha. They say the Four Seasons fried rice uses Pyeongtaek Super O'ning Koshihikari rice and seasonal vegetables, and it is served free of charge.

![Free Four Seasons fried rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-clam-noodle-course/pyeongtaek-clam-noodle-course-21-17wdm-550.webp)

## Even the final sikhye was perfect, haha

After we finished, they also gave us sikhye (sweet rice punch). It was a little different from the usual very sweet sikhye, with a subtle ginger flavor. Drinking it after such a filling meal made my mouth feel refreshed, so the ending was lovely too^^

## A Pyeongtaek restaurant I want to revisit with my parents

Strongly flavored food is delicious too, but lately I have sometimes preferred food flavored by the natural savoriness of the ingredients like this. From the refreshing clam broth and chewy kalguksu to the pear-leaf medicinal boiled pork, napa cabbage dumplings, and fried rice! Every dish felt carefully made, and the overall mild flavor suited my taste perfectly, haha. More than anything, it was a place that made me think, “I really have to bring my parents here next time!”^^ If you are looking for a Pyeongtaek kalguksu restaurant for a family outing or a meal with your parents, I would recommend Goryeo Mulchong Kalguksu!
