Wakppu salt bread kept popping up on Instagram and other SNS! The visuals alone made my mouth water and I couldn't hold back any longer, so I finally went looking for this Uijeongbu dessert spot everyone talks about. This is Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch, famous for financiers and salt bread in Uijeongbu. By the way, Byway Bakers is also known as the #1 spot for Dubai chocolate salt bread that Joo Woo-jae mentioned, so I was even more excited haha.

It's a bakery but the building also has parking, which was a nice bonus. The most famous item is definitely the wakppu salt bread, but the financiers are also said to be excellent, and I'd recommend the upcoming Chuseok gift sets too.

The 4-piece salt bread package and 5-piece financier package make great gifts, and there were so many delicious options — salt bread, tarts, financiers, dujjonkku (chewy butter cookies) — that I had a hard time choosing.

I went with the most famous item, the wakppu salt bread. I came specifically for it, so I'll save the other breads for next time haha. Wakppu salt bread combines the trendy wax-breaking (wakppu) craze — where you crack open a wax-coated slime ball — with salt bread, so I was really curious how that would even work haha.

### Is 2pm too late to buy salt bread at Byway Bakers?

The financiers looked amazing too — sigh. And by the time I got there, a little after 2pm, several of the best-looking items were already partly sold out, so if you want a specific bread, I'd recommend visiting a bit earlier!

They also sell cakes, so it's a good spot for birthday cakes too. They carry cute candles and number candles as well.

I walked out with two wakppu salt breads packed to go. The packaging was super cute too haha.

The packaging was cute, a bit like a pear gift box, and held everything firmly so it wouldn't shake — it survived the trip intact (except for a small crack when I took it out of the bag... sigh). I picked the fig basque cheesecake and the fresh peach yogurt flavors.

The fig basque cheesecake🧡 combined the rich, dense flavor typical of basque cheesecake with moist figs and a subtly tangy yogurt cream — it couldn't possibly taste bad. Paired with the nutty, crispy crust of the salt bread, the first bite was a genuine "wow" moment.

As someone who's obsessed with peaches, the fresh peach yogurt🩷 had me at the name alone. A whole sweet white peach is tucked inside, so the juice bursts out the moment you bite in, and you keep tasting that fresh, sweet peach flavor throughout. Just like the fig version, the yogurt cream keeps it light and balanced. If you visit during peach season, you have to try this one.

The outside is coated in chocolate, so cracking it open felt just like the wakppu wax-breaking toy — fun haha. It's pretty to look at, satisfying to crack open and hear, and delicious to eat — the wakppu salt bread hits all the senses.

Cut in half, you can see it's packed with fresh peach inside — sweet and soft, which made it even better. If you're looking for a Uijeongbu bakery spot, or a Uijeongbu salt bread spot, I'd recommend Byway Bakers Cheongsa Main Branch. Beyond the wakppu salt bread, they also have seasonal cakes like strawberry cream cake, butter rice cakes, pineapple buns, and more. They also take gift, event, and group orders, so it's a great option ahead of a special occasion too. Next time I want to try the fig cake haha.
