## In short

Madam Hao is a Vietnamese pho restaurant that recently opened within a 10-minute walk of Ajou University and Ajou University Hospital in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon. A married couple ordered one bowl each of bun bo Hue (spicy beef noodle soup) and tom yum pho, and the tom yum broth at Madam Hao tasted as though coconut cream had been stirred in — the best of any Thai-style dish they had tried. With parking beside the building and a second hall inside, Madam Hao handles both drivers and group gatherings.

I heard this place had just opened nearby, so out of curiosity I visited Madam Hao in Suwon. It's a Vietnamese-style pho restaurant near Ajou University, and it turned out to be exactly the kind of authentic Vietnamese food that suits Korean palates perfectly — I left completely satisfied!

Especially the tom yum pho... I already love that dish and order it often, but this one actually beat other restaurants I used to favor. It was seriously, seriously good at Madam Hao, haha.

## Where is Madam Hao, and what are its hours?

Madam Hao is located at 49 Wolgcup-ro 193beon-gil, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi, South Korea (101ho), with parking available right beside the store. Hours are Monday to Friday 11:00–3:00, Saturday 17:00–3:00, and Sunday 11:30–3:00.

The terrace right in front of the restaurant is decorated beautifully, almost like a Southeast Asian resort, and it made a great photo spot! There's also a parking lot right next to the building, which made it perfect for visiting by car, haha.

## Inside Madam Hao: terrace, inner hall and room for groups

Inside, Madam Hao has a large hall that leads through to another hall further in, so there seemed to be plenty of seating even for a large group. There's also a door in the middle, so if you're planning a group gathering or company dinner, it looked like a good idea to book a private reservation.

## Madam Hao's menu and what we ordered

Madam Hao's menu was varied beyond just pho, including rice bowls, fresh spring rolls, and various side dishes. We ordered one bun bo Hue, which neither of us had tried before, and one tom yum pho.

Such a wide variety of menu items at this Vietnamese pho restaurant in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon! Beyond the pho, you can order rice bowls, spring rolls, and various sides, so it seemed great for a group visit where everyone orders different things to share!

After a short wait, various toppings and side dishes came out,

### Bun bo Hue for the first time: how strong is the aroma?

Madam Hao's bun bo Hue (spicy lemongrass beef noodle soup) had round noodles like udon in a broth with a distinctive spice aroma. The staff had preemptively warned us that the smell might be strong for Korean tastes, but once we tried it, the aroma wasn't strong at all — it was just delicious.

The dishes we ordered came out soon! Bun bo Hue was a Vietnamese pho menu item I'd never even heard of before — round noodles like udon in a soup with a distinctive spice aroma! You could also dip vegetables into the broth like shabu-shabu.

Both the staff and the chef seemed to be Vietnamese, and the staff was really kind — at first she worried out loud that bun bo Hue might have too strong an aroma for Korean tastes, haha. But after tasting it, it was a complete yes for me!

The vegetables that came with it were bean sprouts, Vietnamese basil and other varieties — they smelled really good and were so fresh that I ended up asking what exactly they were. Totally my type of thing!

The toppings were also really varied — blood cake, fried tofu, sausage, fish cake, and more,

and the round noodles were also chewy and distinctive. Contrary to what the staff had warned, the broth's aroma personally wasn't strong at all to me — it was just delicious, and I really enjoyed this dish!

### Madam Hao's tom yum pho: a broth like coconut cream

Madam Hao's tom yum pho tasted like regular tom yum broth with coconut cream added. I usually love tom yum pho and have tried it at several Thai restaurants in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, but Madam Hao's version was hands down number one.

The bun bo Hue was delicious too, but personally, the tom yum pho was the one my husband and I kept marveling over as we ate it, haha. I usually love tom yum pho and had tried it at various Thai restaurants in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, but Madam Hao's tom yum pho was number one, no contest!!!!

The unforgettable broth of this pho restaurant's tom yum pho near Ajou University... haha. It tasted like regular tom yum broth with coconut cream added, and it was completely my type of thing, haha.

There were tons of noodles, and the toppings — meatballs, shrimp and more — were generous with nothing held back. There was nothing lacking at all; the pho at this restaurant near Ajou University completely exceeded expectations! We left saying we'd definitely come back, and even talked about checking if they deliver to our house, haha.

## Who is Madam Hao in Suwon best for?

If you're someone who's always loved Vietnamese or Thai food, I really, really recommend this pho restaurant near Ajou University in Suwon! It just opened, but once word spreads a bit more, it seems like it's going to become one of those must-know Yeongtong-gu, Suwon spots with a wait!
