## In short

Aori’s Whereabouts Unknown is a ramen restaurant near Uijeongbu Station in Gyeonggi. The ₩16,000 Aori Set paired rich tonkotsu ramen with egg soy sauce rice and a spicy secret sauce. Verdict: A great fit for a quiet, filling bowl of ramen alone.

Lately, I’ve really been craving a steaming bowl of ramen. On my last trip to Japan, I wanted to try Ichiran Ramen, but my stomach wasn’t feeling great, so I ended up missing it—and I kept regretting that. Then I thought of Aori’s Whereabouts Unknown (아오리의 행방불명), a place in Korea where you can enjoy a similar atmosphere. It’s close to home, and I’d heard it was a well-known ramen spot in Uijeongbu for its Aori Ramen, so I went straight away.

## Solo seats that are genuinely comfortable

As soon as I walked in, I understood why people call it a mecca for solo dining.

Every seat has partitions, plus a curtain at the front, so it was nice to eat alone without worrying about anyone around me.

There are 17 seats in total, with space above each one to put a bag or other belongings, much like a study room. When I visited, there were solo diners, but I also saw couples sitting side by side. J-pop was mainly playing in the restaurant, which added to the mood and made me feel as if I’d briefly stepped into a ramen shop in Japan. With this kind of atmosphere, I can see why it would stick in the minds of people looking for good ramen in Uijeongbu.

## Private from kiosk ordering onward

You order first at the kiosk, then take whichever seat you like.

## Aori’s Whereabouts Unknown menu and the Aori Set

- Ramen: Aori Ramen ₩11,000, Miso Ramen ₩12,000, Hiyashi Ramen ₩11,000, Mazemen ₩13,000
- Sets: Aori Set ₩16,000, Miso Set ₩17,000, Maze Set ₩15,500, Hiyashi Set ₩16,000

I ordered the Aori Set!

The self-service bar had danmuji (pickled radish), and there were even hair ties and toothpicks off to one side—such a thoughtful touch. People with long hair can eat ramen comfortably too, haha. Details like this made the description of it as a solo-dining mecca feel very fitting.

## Rich, deeply flavored Aori Ramen

Aori Ramen, the signature dish at Aori’s Whereabouts Unknown, is tonkotsu ramen made by simmering pork bones for a long time. I had the standard Aori Ramen, and from the first sip the broth was deep, intense, and richly creamy. It comes with chashu, ajitama (seasoned soft-boiled egg), menma (seasoned bamboo shoots), nori, bamboo shoots, and more; you can choose scallions to suit your taste.

The chashu was tender with no unpleasant smell, making it great with the noodles. The noodles are thin 1.1 mm hosomen (thin noodles). Their fine texture made them easy to eat in bites, and they held the rich broth well. They paired so nicely with the intense tonkotsu broth that I understood why people seek this place out for ramen in Uijeongbu.

## How does the secret sauce change it?

The original broth was delicious on its own, but halfway through, I added the secret sauce. It brought extra spicy warmth and savoriness, balancing tonkotsu’s characteristic heaviness, so I personally preferred this combination. If you enjoy spicy ramen or ramen with a warming kick, it would be nice to use the secret sauce to adjust the heat! Start by enjoying the original broth, then stir in the sauce halfway through for two different experiences in one bowl. Aori Ramen comes in standard and light versions; the light version has two fewer toppings, making it a good option for anyone who wants something a little lighter.

## The egg soy sauce rice made it even more filling

![Aori Set with egg soy sauce rice and a drink](https://img.superchart.com/images/uijeongbu-aori-ramen-solo-dining/uijeongbu-aori-ramen-solo-dining-13-13ii6-966.webp)

I ordered a set with Aori Ramen, egg soy sauce rice, and a drink. This Japanese-style egg soy sauce rice is mixed with raw egg and Aori toppings. It was salty and nutty, with no eggy odor, and went nicely alongside the ramen.

The ramen itself was already quite filling, so after the set I was really full, haha. If you don’t usually eat a large amount, the ramen on its own would likely be plenty satisfying too.

## A quiet bowl of ramen near Uijeongbu Station

I came looking for rich, creamy tonkotsu ramen, and I left satisfied with the combination of broth, noodles, and chashu. I also really liked dissolving the secret sauce in halfway through for a spicy, warming change. Above all, the solo seats with partitions and curtains made eating alone genuinely comfortable, so the phrase “solo-dining mecca” suited it perfectly. If you want a quiet bowl of ramen by yourself and are looking for a Uijeongbu ramen spot with a Japanese feel, I recommend Aori’s Whereabouts Unknown!
