I visited Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok, a newly opened lamb skewer restaurant near Balsan Station. Since it just opened recently, it has private seating and group rooms, so it seemed like a great spot for a work dinner too. Out of all the Magok lamb skewer places I've been to, this was the cleanest and had the thickest skewers! Let me introduce it now.

Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok sits in the Queens Park 10 building, between Balsan and Magok stations. You can park comfortably in the Queens Park Ten underground lot, and best of all, they support up to 4 hours of parking, so you can leave your car and enjoy your meal without worrying about time.

Coming up to the 2nd floor of the Queens Park 10 building, Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok has quite a large space. Since Naver Reservation is convenient, most people seem to book ahead. If you're coming during evening peak times or for a group dinner, I'd recommend reserving in advance.

## Seating and the 22-person room for group dinners

The tables are spaced well apart and the interior is clean. Among the Magok lamb skewer restaurants I've visited recently, this had the cleanest, most modern interior. From private seating to a room that fits up to 22 people, it looked like a great spot for gatherings or work dinners.

## Hwarodam Yang Kkochi menu and lunch specials

Here's the menu at this Balsan Station favorite, Hwarodam Yang Kkochi. From grilled items like French rack and shoulder rack to lamb skewers, Hwarodam Yang Kkochi Magok has a wide variety of dishes ready. The skewer selection was also varied, so I ordered one of each type.

There's also a lunch special menu, which seemed great for office workers coming in on weekday lunch breaks. The value was really good too. I'd love to come back for lunch next time.

## Three skewers compared: lamb sirloin, thick lamb, lamb rib meat

We mostly ordered skewers, trying a variety of the restaurant's signature lamb sirloin skewers, thick lamb skewers, and lamb rib meat skewers. Each serving came with about 6 skewers, and prices varied by type, so budgeting around ₩20,000 per serving should be about right.

The skewers come pre-grilled, which was convenient. They also set out some basic side dishes that go well with the skewers. The seasoned radish here is really good..

Once the hot charcoal is placed on the table, it's time to put the skewers on! We laid out all the different skewer types we'd ordered.

At a lamb skewer restaurant, the skewers rotate on their own, so you can just relax and let them grill — that's always nice. The lamb here is quite thick, but since it comes pre-grilled once, the cooking time is shorter.

First up was the signature lamb sirloin skewer — big chunks of sirloin threaded onto the skewer. Each serving is 250g across 6 skewers, so each skewer had a substantial amount of meat.

Rather than grilling it well-done, cooking it to medium keeps the juices in and makes it tastier. Most Magok lamb skewer places tend to sell thin skewers, but at Hwarodam Yang Kkochi you can enjoy nice thick ones. Good stuff!

It's tasty just dipped in salt alone, but it was even better paired with the pickled peppers served alongside. There was also a nice variety of basic sauces.

## Sides to share: guo bao rou and mapo fried rice

We also ordered guo bao rou (sweet and sour crispy pork) as a side dish. It was nice that you could choose the size, so it wasn't a big commitment to order. We got the small size, and it was still a decent portion — plus, this place turned out to be great for guo bao rou!

You can see the batter is thin while the meat inside is nice and thick. The sauce was sweet and tangy too, so it was delicious. If you visit Hwarodam Yang Kkochi, definitely try the guo bao rou!

Usually when I eat lamb skewers, I finish with warm noodle soup, but this time they had mapo fried rice instead of noodle soup, so I gave it a try. The portion was generous, and both the mapo tofu and the fried rice were delicious.

Lastly, if you're a fan of draft beer, definitely order the craft beer here.. and right now they're running a beer 3+1 event too. If you're looking for a good restaurant near Balsan Station, I recommend Hwarodam Yang Kkochi, a Magok lamb skewer spot with clean surroundings and thick, satisfying skewers.
