## We went because my son wanted naengmyeon

These days, when my eldest son wants a specific dish, he lets us know pretty clearly. This time he suddenly said, "Mom, I want naengmyeon!" So I looked for somewhere near Dongtan Lake Park where we could get naengmyeon and ended up at Naengmyeon Gajun Dongtan Main Branch.

When eating out with a kid, taste matters, but so does whether everyone in the family can find something they want to eat. This place has naengmyeon plus galbitang, yukgaejang kalguksu, braised short ribs, pork belly, and mandu, so it was an easy pick for a family meal.

## What we ordered and how much it cost

Here's what our family ordered that day.

Honestly, our original plan was a soy-marinated pork belly + naengmyeon set. Naengmyeon with grilled meat really is a great combo. But because we showed up a bit late, the pork belly was sold out that day! I'd already been mentally enjoying it, so that was a bit of a letdown. So if you really want to try the meat dishes too, I'd recommend visiting a bit earlier rather than too late.

## Enjoying the Dongtan Lake Park view while eating

There was one unexpected bonus that day: the view of Dongtan Lake Park. The lake park scenery stretched out through the window, and it looked prettier than I expected.

When I go to a restaurant, food taste is usually the first thing I check, but here, looking out at the view while eating made me feel unexpectedly relaxed. A bite of naengmyeon, then a glance at the lake, haha. We came to eat, but it felt like both our mouths and our eyes got to enjoy themselves.

## My son fell for the yukgaejang kalguksu even more than the naengmyeon

As soon as the cold naengmyeon arrived, my eldest son started eating happily. I thought, "Glad we came for naengmyeon after all," but there was a twist, haha. The moment his dad's yukgaejang kalguksu landed on the table, his eyes went straight to it. In the end, he ate a bite of naengmyeon, a bite of kalguksu, splitting the two dishes almost evenly.

He said he wanted naengmyeon, but ended up properly enjoying yukgaejang kalguksu too, haha. When eating out with a kid, a place where you can order several different dishes together can be more convenient than a spot that specializes in just one thing. It worked well for people who want cold naengmyeon and people who want hot soup to go together.

## My honest review of the galbitang

I ordered the galbitang that day, and what I personally liked most was the broth.

Since it's a naengmyeon restaurant, I didn't expect much from the galbitang, but the broth was better than I thought, so my spoon kept going back for more.

When you're raising a kid, family meals often turn into "the kid wants this, my husband wants that, and I want something warm..." with everyone's tastes completely different, haha. That was exactly our situation this time. My son split naengmyeon and yukgaejang kalguksu, my husband had yukgaejang kalguksu, and I had the warm galbitang. Being able to each order what we wanted actually made things easier.

My eldest clearly said, "I want naengmyeon!" when we set out, but he ended up happily splitting naengmyeon and yukgaejang kalguksu fifty-fifty, haha. As for me, eating warm galbitang while looking out at Dongtan Lake Park made this lunch feel more relaxed than I expected.
