Looking for lunch in Gwanpyeong-dong, Daejeon, I ended up back at Choi Dining Daejeon Gwanpyeong, known for its Japanese fusion menu, haha. With everything from katsu to futomaki, maze soba, rice bowls, and pasta, the menu is varied enough that a group could easily order to their own taste, lol.

After some back and forth, we ordered the Choi bone-in pork katsu and the salmon futomaki 5P to share.

## Where is Choi Dining Daejeon Gwanpyeong? Near Hyundai Premium Outlet Daejeon

Choi Dining Daejeon Gwanpyeong is located on the 1st floor of 20 Gwandeul 4-gil, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. It's in the Gwanpyeong-dong area, not far from Hyundai Premium Outlet Daejeon, so it's a fine spot for a meal before or after shopping.

The sign out front uses red and yellow, plus several menu banners, so it catches your eye right away, haha. Near the entrance, they had big displays for the weekday lunch Choi Han-sang discount and the summer-only cold salmon soba, lol. There was also parking signage in front, but the space isn't especially generous, so if you're driving, it's worth checking the surrounding area too.

## Inside Choi Dining Daejeon Gwanpyeong: atmosphere and seating

Inside, it felt much brighter and cleaner than the exterior suggested, haha. White tables mixed with wood-tone chairs and yellow lighting give it more of a casual fusion dining vibe than a typical Japanese restaurant.

!["JAPANESE FUSION DINING" text on the wall](https://img.superchart.com/images/choi-dining-daejeon-gwanpyeong-bone-katsu-salmon-futomaki/choi-dining-daejeon-gwanpyeong-bone-katsu-salmon-futomaki-10-kmalh-966.webp)

A large "JAPANESE FUSION DINING" phrase on the wall made the concept pretty clear, lol. In one corner there were also cute little decorations and cat figurines, which were surprisingly fun to look at, haha.

The tables weren't cramped, and each one had a tablet, so we could order comfortably without calling a staff member over. It's introduced as a spot that draws a lot of Gwanpyeong-dong office workers at lunch, so peak times could get somewhat busy.

## Choi Dining menu and prices

The menu really did have a lot of options, haha. Along with the signature salmon futomaki 5P at ₩14,900 and tempura futomaki 5P at ₩14,900, there was soba maki, cube salmon donburi, pork toro donburi, maze soba, and more.

For katsu, there's the Choi bone-in pork katsu at ₩16,500 and uni-topped katsu don, plus quite a few fusion-style dishes like spicy yakisoba, pork jowl and wild garlic oil pasta, and whole bacon cream pasta, lol. On a first visit, you could spend a while just deciding what to order, haha.

This time, I was curious about the futomaki and wanted katsu too, so we ordered both.

- Choi bone-in pork katsu ₩16,500
- Salmon futomaki 5P ₩14,900
- Total came to ₩31,400, lol

![A plate of golden-fried Choi bone-in pork katsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/choi-dining-daejeon-gwanpyeong-bone-katsu-salmon-futomaki/choi-dining-daejeon-gwanpyeong-bone-katsu-salmon-futomaki-16-1r6y7-966.webp)

## Choi bone-in pork katsu, 16,500 won: size and crunch

What caught my eye first was definitely the Choi bone-in pork katsu. The moment it hit the table, the size alone made an impression, haha. It's a large bone-in cutlet fried whole, and the whole surface was golden brown, so it looked crispy just from the picture, lol.

It comes with rice, cabbage salad, cherry tomatoes, and a separate sauce. Taking a bite, the breading wasn't too thick and had a nice crisp crunch, haha.

The meat inside was thicker than expected too, so it wasn't just about the breading — you could really taste the meat. The katsu itself wasn't over-seasoned, so eating it plain and then dipping lightly into the sauce worked perfectly, lol. The portion was fairly large, and with the futomaki on top of it, it was quite filling for two.

## Salmon futomaki 5P, 14,900 won: fillings and size

And the salmon futomaki at Choi Dining was another one that's hard to skip visually, haha. If you're expecting a bite-sized roll like regular gimbap (seaweed rice roll), you'll be surprised by how large these are, lol.

Looking at the cross-section, the salmon was thick, and it was packed with egg, pickled radish, vegetables, and tempura bits. The orange salmon in particular was cut generously, so one bite gave you soft salmon, crunchy vegetables, and savory egg all at once, haha. One piece near the front even had a big shrimp tempura tucked in, so there was fun in picking through different bites, lol.

With this many ingredients, futomaki can sometimes taste muddled, but the salmon held the center well, so it felt more balanced than I expected. That said, given the size, it's probably more comfortable to share than to try to eat each piece in one bite, haha.

Going from the crispy, savory katsu to the soft, refreshing salmon futomaki, the two dishes paired nicely, lol. Choi Dining Daejeon Gwanpyeong isn't just a katsu place — I liked that you can try futomaki, maze soba, donburi, and pasta all in one restaurant.

![Final table setup with katsu and futomaki placed together](https://img.superchart.com/images/choi-dining-daejeon-gwanpyeong-bone-katsu-salmon-futomaki/choi-dining-daejeon-gwanpyeong-bone-katsu-salmon-futomaki-18-9ktrr-966.webp)

If you're looking for a Gwanpyeong-dong restaurant or a place near Hyundai Outlet Daejeon and want something a little different, it's worth a visit, haha. Next time, I'd like to try the maze soba and the pork jowl wild garlic oil pasta we didn't get to this time, lol. If you like futomaki, don't skip the salmon futomaki — order it along with your katsu 😊
