While driving around Mulwang Reservoir, I found a meat restaurant with a seriously proper charcoal aroma. It was Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch (불향집 물왕호수본점)! The name itself means “charcoal-aroma house” 🔥 and once I tried it, I completely understood why.

The charcoal-grilled bulgogi topped with heaps of scallions was especially memorable, so I wanted to introduce it 👍🏻

## An easy Mulwang-ri gathering spot with spacious parking

The parking lot is large, making this a nice place to meet up. For anyone arriving by car, having less to worry about when parking was what I liked most. It was easy for several people to visit together, and the restaurant still had the atmosphere of the Mulwang Lake area.

The restaurant itself is generously sized, so it looked suitable for a family meal out or dinner with friends. That is why I also thought it was a decent recommendation for a Mulwang-ri gathering spot. You can even watch the meat being par-grilled over charcoal.

## Bulhyangjip’s weekday lunch set

We visited for weekday lunch and ordered Bulhyangjip’s lunch set, plus steamed egg. With bulgogi for two, bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles), doenjang jjigae (soybean-paste stew), and bowls of rice, it was a hearty meal without needing to agonize over the menu. It costs ₩41,800.

First, the basic table setting arrived, and anything we needed more of could be picked up from the self-service bar.

The self-service bar is really well stocked, right? There were different kinds of ssam (wrap) greens, which made my mom very happy.

## A deep charcoal aroma from the par-grilling

One fun point at Bulhyangjip is that you can watch the meat being par-grilled over charcoal. Even before the meat arrived, the charcoal aroma was rising up, and I was already thinking this was going to be delicious. When I actually ate it, the smoky flavor was not merely subtle—it came through quite strongly.

## Charcoal scallion bulgogi piled high with green onions

This was the dish that caught my eye first, starting with its appearance. There was truly a generous heap of scallions on top of the meat, so anyone who loves green onions will definitely enjoy it.

Have a piece of meat with a big pile of scallions, and the pungent, fragrant flavor of the scallions works beautifully with it. Above all, the charcoal aroma is deeply absorbed into the meat and fills your mouth all at once. The meat was tender to chew, with a lightly sweet marinade that made it perfect with rice. If you are looking for charcoal bulgogi with a real smoky flavor, I think you will be quite satisfied here.

Rice and the country-style grandma doenjang stew came with it—such a good combination!

Why is the steamed egg so huge? Hahahahaha. At ₩7,000, it was a slightly larger steamed egg. It was fluffy and soft, making it nice to eat between bites of meat.

Not only the mains, but all the dishes that came with them were tasty overall, so I was happy with the meal.

## Bibim guksu that was perfect between bites of meat

Be sure to have the bibim guksu, too. Unexpectedly, it was one of the things I remembered most. Its tangy, spicy sauce really woke up my appetite, and taking a bite along with the meat worked so well.

The tangy, spicy bibim guksu balanced the sweetness of the bulgogi, and as I alternated it with the meat, I realized I had eaten almost the whole bowl.

## Charcoal gochujang bulgogi with a different appeal

The charcoal gochujang bulgogi we had additionally was delicious, too. The signature sweet-and-spicy flavor of gochujang (Korean red chili paste) combined with the charcoal aroma for a much deeper flavor than ordinary gochujang bulgogi.

The seasoning had soaked into the meat well, so with rice, it was a real rice thief. Personally, it had a different charm from the scallion bulgogi, enough that it was difficult to pick just one.

## A good place for a group bulgogi meal in Mulwang-ri

Overall, Bulhyangjip was memorable for bulgogi with a proper charcoal aroma and a generous self-service bar of wrap greens. The spacious parking and relaxed restaurant atmosphere also make it a good option when looking for somewhere to visit with several people, whether for a family meal or a gathering with friends.
