## A quirky café discovery in Dobong: Uisagye ☕

I've been going out to the Dobong-gu Changdong area a lot lately, so I've been exploring the cafés here one by one, and today I want to introduce a place that really stuck with me. It's a café called Uisagye (우이사계), tucked into an alley right next to Uicheon stream.

As soon as I arrived, I was a little surprised by the size of the building. It uses the entire structure from basement to 3rd floor, so its presence was obvious from the mouth of the alley. A bread-shaped sculpture and a red beam accent on the exterior wall caught my eye even from a distance. The outdoor seating and soft lighting near the entrance made the atmosphere even better at night.

The moment you step inside, you see stairs painted bright red, which contrasted sharply with the white-toned interior — a clear signature point. It really felt like the entire building was taken over by one café, so I was already overwhelmed by the scale before even sitting down. The drink bar was neatly organized too, with the coffee grinder and syrups lined up tidily, giving it a hygienic feel. ## How I picked my order at Uisagye 🍑

Looking at the menu, I hesitated a bit since there were more options than I expected. There was a good range of coffee, signature drinks, non-coffee options and teas, and true to a well-known Dobong-gu dessert spot, there was a separate bakery menu board too.

Since it was a hot day, we ordered the snowflake ice persimmon bingsu (shaved ice dessert) and an iced tea. The bingsu alone was in the ₩8,000 range, and combined with the iced tea, we ate quite well for under ₩10,000 per person. I ordered the persimmon bingsu out of curiosity since it wasn't a flavor I usually see, and it was worth it just for how pretty it looked. The portion and composition felt like good value for the price too.

## Snowflake ice persimmon bingsu melted away the summer heat 🍧

The moment the bingsu arrived, the colors were so pretty I spent a while just taking photos. Finely shaved snowflake ice was piled with plenty of ripe persimmon on top, along with condensed milk and pieces of yakgwa (honey cookie).

Taking a bite, the ice really did melt like snow, so it went down smoothly, and the persimmon's rich natural sweetness came through. Mixing in the condensed milk and yakgwa added a nutty flavor, and the combination worked really well together. It was refreshing enough to blow away the heat in one go — a perfect dessert for the tail end of summer. The iced tea we ordered alongside wasn't too sweet and went down cool and easy, pairing nicely with the bingsu. Overall, I was quite satisfied with this dessert.

The 1st floor is mostly bar seats and standing tables, so it's also a good structure for a quick takeout stop.

Heading down to the basement, there's seating decorated with designer furniture, which felt more like a showroom than a café. There were window seats with natural light coming in, and a space with vintage chairs that was comfortable to sit in for a long time. Since we visited on a weekday evening, there was no wait and the noise level wasn't high, making it easy to talk. I think this space works well whether you want to chat comfortably with a friend or spend some quiet time alone.

Uisagye's biggest appeal is definitely how it uses the whole building to offer a different experience on each floor. The bright red stairs and the beam accent on the exterior wall are signature color points you don't often see at other cafés. In summer, there's a seasonal menu item like the snowflake persimmon bingsu, and I heard the Uicheon chimney bread stays popular year-round, so I definitely want to try that next time. When the weather cools down, I think spending time on the terrace or rooftop seats would be even better. Visiting in the evening also meant the lighting was pretty, making it a good time for photos.
