Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch is a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant on the main alley of Yeonnam-dong. It recently changed its name from 'Wuae Tonkatsu Yeonnam Branch' to 'Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch.'

Walking through the alleys of Yeonnam-dong, you can find all kinds of restaurants easily. Today I visited a Yeonnam-dong spot that's long been known by word of mouth as a great tonkatsu place.

It's a good spot for a Yeonnam-dong date too, and it's already famous as a tonkatsu place. Being right in the center of Yeonnam-dong, it was easy to drop by while looking around the neighborhood :)

There's a terrace out front too, good for eating at a 2-person table. The weather was nice that day but it was hot, so I ate inside. The sign and name are new, but the same basic commitment to giving customers quality food hasn't changed.

Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch is a Korean fusion tonkatsu restaurant offering a variety of menu items including tonkatsu, rice bowls, and soba. Its biggest feature is that domestic pork loin and tenderloin are hand-trimmed in-store every day before being served to customers.

There was a wide range of tonkatsu types, plus solo and two-person set menus, so I switched to the solo set :)

Tonkatsu sauce, water, spoon, and chopsticks were all already set out, and the place was clean overall.

## Solo seats at Katsu Monster and the lunchtime wait

Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch has solo seating tucked inside, plus a mix of tables for 4 or more and for 2. As lunchtime rolled around, more and more people kept showing up. Last time I visited, a wait list had already formed right after I got in — it's a place that draws a real crowd.

Today, to have a filling meal on my own without any fuss, I ordered the solo set (cheese katsu + spicy udon) with a zero-sugar cola added. The solo set comes out neat and tidy on a single tray — plenty for one person. The portion was really generous haha. The restaurant was kept clean overall too, so even eating alone, I didn't feel self-conscious at all, which I liked.

It didn't take long for the food to come out.

## How do the cheese katsu and spicy udon taste?

The cheese katsu at Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch is made with fresh domestic pork hand-prepared daily, packed generously with nutty cheese. The outer coating is fried crisp, so you get a lively crunch with each bite, while the cheese inside is nutty, soft, and stretches out in long pulls.

The nuttiness of the cheese and the clean flavor of the fresh meat balance out perfectly, so it's never too greasy and stays satisfying to eat. Taking bites of the spicy udon served alongside in between bites of cheese katsu, the two menu items really complemented each other haha.

The spicy udon has a sharp, refreshing broth, and the noodles stay chewy without going soft, so it's perfect for pairing a bite of cheese katsu with a mouthful of broth and noodles. The clean richness of the cheese and the spicy kick of the broth kept alternating haha.

## Is Katsu Monster worth it for a solo tonkatsu meal in Yeonnam-dong?

The combination of katsu made from fresh domestic meat hand-trimmed daily and the spicy, sharp udon made for a satisfying meal on its own. It's a great place to visit alone in Yeonnam-dong when you want a hearty, clean tonkatsu set :)
