You can't have a Gapyeong camping trip without a barbecue party. But you need to buy meat, vegetables, and everything else to eat at the pension — so where do you go? I always used to go to the mart, but this time I tried buying fresh meat at a butcher shop instead. The place we visited is called Ari Chuksan, near Cheongpyeong Lake. They said yukhoe was available, so we had 400g packed. The yukhoe portion was surprisingly generous, and it was so delicious and fresh we ate almost all of it. The pork neck was tasty, the beef was tasty... plus lots of unusual specialty cuts... Ari Chuksan is located near the Cheongpyeong mart, making it the perfect stop for travelers heading to Gapyeong or Cheongpyeong pensions. They also sell Korean beef, Korean pork, pork belly, pork neck, pork jowl for charcoal grilling, and thick-cut barbecue gift sets. I worried a butcher shop near a tourist spot and campground might be expensive, but it was actually reasonable compared to mart prices, and the meat quality was great — very satisfying.
