Was Gyodae Station always hiding this many good restaurants? My boyfriend and I keep coming here and being amazed haha. This time I visited Chungmusik, a favorite among Gyodae Station office workers, just a 5-minute walk from Exit 10. Here's the review :))

## Where is Chungmusik? Basement level, 5 minutes from Gyodae Station Exit 10

Chungmusik is about a 5-minute walk from Gyodae Station Exit 10, and since it's tucked away in the building's basement, the exterior is hard to spot!! It's this building with the yellow sign.

![Exterior of the building housing Chungmusik near Gyodae Station](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster-03-39km2-m-900.webp)

Come in through here. Gyodae Station has a lot of ground-floor restaurants too, but since everything is in office-building form, there are tons of restaurants hidden in basements! Chungmusik was one of them.

![Basement hallway lined with restaurants](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster-05-yu3ip-900.webp)

There are quite a few restaurants in the basement, right? Seems like Gyodae Station's best spots are all hiding underground haha. Chungmusik's signature dishes are Chungmu gomtang and yangjangpi.

The bright yellow sign greets us haha. We went at 5pm and there were already tons of regulars in for a daytime drink? I felt like I'd found a real gem haha.

## Chungmusik menu and prices, and what we ordered

The Chungmu gimbap (seaweed rice roll) and fried tofu rice balls that come out first as complimentary starters are one plate per person, and there's no refill. But they said you can order them for takeout haha.

## The free starter at Chungmusik: Chungmu gimbap and seokbakji radish kimchi

Where else do you get Chungmu gimbap as a free starter? Right here at Gyodae Station's Chungmusik!! I thought it would just be one plate per table, but it was one plate per person, which was such a nice touch.

They said to eat it together with the seokbakji (radish kimchi). Just take out as much as you'll eat! There's squid hidden between the seokbakji too, so eating the squid together with the gimbap is pure bliss,,

We started with a beer, cheers ❤️

### How to eat Chungmu gomtang the way locals do

- 1️⃣ Eat the Chungmu gimbap and fried tofu rice balls together with Chungmusik's seokbakji.
- 2️⃣ First, dip the octopus and Hanwoo (Korean beef) boiled meat in the special sauce.
- 3️⃣ You can mash up the seafood tofu terrine to your taste and stir it into the broth.
- 4️⃣ Pair the toryeom-style (broth-warmed) rice with Chungmusik's seokbakji.

## Do you need a reservation at Chungmusik? Seating explained

I thought the tables up front were all there was, but there was also a group seating area further inside. But true to a Gyodae Station favorite, walk-in seating was nearly impossible, and it runs on a 100% reservation system, so you absolutely must book ahead before visiting.

Chungmu gimbap is actually pretty plain on its own, but paired with the seokbakji it's eaten with, the flavor is incredible. Gyodae Station's Chungmusik really nailed the seokbakji too.

![Bowl of Chungmu gomtang with added Tongyeong oysters](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster-16-gpfg5-900.webp)

## Chungmu gomtang for 15,000 won with the Tongyeong oyster add-on

Chungmusik's Chungmu gomtang arrived. The scallions come on the side so you can sprinkle them in to taste.

We love scallions so we piled them on, and we also added the Tongyeong oysters!! It had been a while since I'd had oyster gomtang, so I was full of excitement haha.

Can you see how clear the broth is? It's milky and clear at the same time, but with tofu, meat, and oysters all in there, the broth is heavy and the umami is out of this world.

We piled on as much of the special sauce as we wanted and ate the octopus and boiled meat with it. The octopus was so tender and the boiled meat just melted in our mouths.

The toryeom rice grains were slightly plumped up, having soaked in all that gomtang broth, and the umami in the rice grains was insane.

I'm not usually a big meat person when eating gomtang, but Chungmusik's Chungmu gomtang broth was so delicious on its own that I kept eating the meat with it anyway haha.

And the tofu was unusual! It wasn't regular tofu but handmade tofu made in-house. There were vegetables and seaweed tucked between the layers. The tofu was seriously the real deal,,!! Pure nuttiness 👍

![Plate of Chungmusik's signature yangjangpi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster-17-1nazg-900.webp)

## Chungmusik's signature yangjangpi for 43,000 won

Chungmusik's signature dish, yangjangpi (cold mixed platter), arrived. Visuals pass!! So pretty with all those colors.

![Close-up of colorful yangjangpi ingredients](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster-18-13m80-900.webp)

![Mustard sauce served with the yangjangpi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster-19-1s9vx-900.webp)

You're supposed to drizzle the mustard sauce that comes with it to taste, but just put it all in! The sauce wasn't that sharp, so mixing it all in and tossing everything together was totally fine.

Fish cake, octopus, carrot, egg garnish, sea snail, bell pepper, sea cucumber — the ingredients in the yangjangpi were incredibly varied!!

![Yangjangpi mixed with mustard sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster-20-15zhy-900.webp)

My husband said yangjangpi is the kind of food you'd eat back in school on graduation day or when you won an award — is that right? But it was my first time trying it,,hahaha

![Sea cucumber, octopus, and other ingredients in the yangjangpi](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster-21-1m58q-900.webp)

Apparently all the ingredients in yangjangpi are high-end, making the dish itself expensive, which is why it became known as a special-occasion food! But now we're grown-ups who can just eat it without thinking about that, haha.

The oysters were genuinely fresh. Zero fishy smell and no sand inside!! We were told to dip them in sauce, but they were so fresh and delicious the oysters were amazing plain too!

![Tongyeong oysters added to the Chungmu gomtang](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster-22-pcj2p-900.webp)

![Soju glass alongside the yangjangpi side dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster/gyodae-station-chungmusik-gomtang-oyster-23-owccu-900.webp)

Tasty side dishes call for soju, cheers cheers cheers ❤️

A big bite of yangjangpi loaded with mustard sauce. The sea cucumber was crunchy and delicious! Since yangjangpi is a dish where you enjoy the natural flavor of the ingredients along with the tangy kick of the mustard sauce, it felt more like a drinking snack or side dish than a full meal.

Today's dark horse: Tongyeong oysters haha. I went back and forth on whether to add them, but I'm so glad I did — the oysters were seriously fresh.

There was boiled meat in the yangjangpi too, so I wrapped it up with the various ingredients inside, and the mustard sauce tied everything together perfectly haha.

This was my first time trying Chungmu gomtang and it was delicious. With the boiled meat, octopus, Tongyeong oysters, and handmade tofu, it had a bit of a homemade-by-mom feel?

Mideoduck (sea squirt)! It was a tiny baby mideoduck, but bite into it and the broth that bursts out is a work of art. I was so happy to have mideoduck again after a while that I ended up demolishing all the mideoduck in the yangjangpi by myself haha.

## Is Chungmusik worth it? Final verdict and the receipt review discount

I never expected such a great restaurant to be hiding in the basement near Gyodae Station, but I think we really found a gem with Chungmusik!! The Chungmu gomtang was fresh, and since I'd heard it was known for yangjangpi, I ordered that too — and sure enough, every table had yangjangpi on it. I guess everyone's tastes really are the same haha. Well, thanks for the meal :))

Lastly, you can get up to ₩4,000 off per table with a Naver receipt review, so don't miss out on that discount. And that's a wrap on this Gyodae Station favorite, Chungmusik :))
