I had a Jongno date planned after a while and wanted good sushi, so while searching I found this spot near Jongak Station — let me introduce it!

## How to find Choe Uyeong Sushiya: 2 minutes from Jongak Station, B1 of Starfield Avenue

Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch is located on the basement level of Starfield Avenue, reachable in just a 2-minute walk from inside Jongak Station. Being able to walk straight there from inside the station felt like a huge advantage!! Especially when it's hot, cold, rainy, or snowy, moving around outside gets way more inconvenient.

There's a menu board right in front of the restaurant, which was nice for checking things out before heading in at this Jongak Station spot. Besides sushi, they have sashimi, kaisendon, and tempura — a whole lineup of solid Japanese food!

## Solo counter seats and group tables on a Saturday afternoon

Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch has really solid solo dining seats, so if you're eating alone and craving good Jongno sushi, this is a great spot. I came around 1:30pm on a Saturday, and solo diners kept steadily coming in. They also have sashimi in various sizes, so there were quite a few people drinking solo too.

Of course, besides the solo seats there are plenty of 4-6 person tables too, so visiting with a group is totally fine!

Every table has an ordering tablet, along with pickled radish, ginger, and — real sushi places that know what they're doing use house-made soy sauce, right? Haha. Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch checks that box too, with house-made soy sauce.

## Special sushi set 15pcs: ankimo (monkfish liver) with no fishy taste

The special sushi set arrived first. It came out on such a neat, pretty plate that I couldn't help but grab my camera.

Personally, ankimo (monkfish liver) at mediocre places can be so fishy it ruins the experience, so I was a bit wary — but here there was truly zero fishy taste, just savory, rich flavor that was outstanding.. 👍🏻 No wonder it's called the top sushi spot near Jongak Station!

### Seared brisket sushi, 5 pieces

For the grilled brisket sushi, I ordered it because after eating various raw fish sushi, I always start craving seared meat sushi too — and this was the best choice. Between the grilled aroma, the generous pile of onions, and the teriyaki sauce, the sheer amount of toppings made for incredible harmony. If you like this kind of tataki-style meat sushi, you have to order it!!

## Premium sushi set 16pcs: thick cuts of fish over small rice

Next came the premium sushi set. As soon as the plate arrived piled full, I let out a big "whoa~" of admiration.

Overall, the fish cuts were large and the rice portions weren't oversized, which let the natural flavor of the fish really come through. It wasn't just me thinking this — every piece had thick, hefty fish, legendary texture.

I'm always disappointed when crab shows up in a sushi set, but here the crab sushi had that ocean scent plus a soft, pure crab flavor that was so good it surprised me.

I personally love negitoro gunkan (fatty tuna scallion roll) and always order extra of it at my favorite sushi spots, so running into it here was doubly delightful.

Especially this tuna sushi — legendary, seriously delicious.. that signature tuna richness was out of this world. Writing about it makes me want to eat it again.. It was so good I wanted to order an extra single piece, but after stuffing myself on this generous, well-rounded sushi spot near Jongak Station, I was too full to order more.
