## In short

Dongchuwon Bulgogi is a Korean beef bulgogi restaurant with private rooms in Hagik-dong, Michuhol, Incheon. Hearing that even weekday lunches draw a queue, we arrived almost at opening, at 11:09, and ordered Korean beef bulgogi for two, ongsimi mandu (dumplings with rice-flour balls) and cold noodles for dessert, with the bulgogi simmered in broth and the bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) standing out. Baby-friendly seats and a private room make Dongchuwon Bulgogi an easy pick for family gatherings.

There's a famous restaurant in Hagik-dong. Clean-tasting food, private rooms perfect for family gatherings, a five-year straight Blue Ribbon pick and a Korea Master Craftsman honoree — here's my review of Dongchuwon Bulgogi.

## A queue even at weekday lunch: arriving at 11:09

Dongchuwon Bulgogi gets a line even on weekday lunches, so I got there at 11:09am, basically right at opening. The menu is surprisingly varied — old-style bulgogi, Korean beef bulgogi, premium Korean beef hangover soup, Korean beef hot pot, Korean beef minari beef tartare, Korean beef hangover soup, Korean beef clear gomtang, Korean beef tartare bibimbap and more.

### Private room, baby-friendly seats and solo dining seats

The restaurant is spacious. Tables are large with good spacing. In the photo on the right, the area circled in white is the private room. The regular seats are already big and comfortable, but having a room makes this an especially great place for family meals.

There are solo dining seats too. Oh, and here's the most touching part.

There's a seat big enough for a baby to lie down — the 'baby-friendly seat.' I've been to countless restaurants, but this is the first time I've seen anything like this ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ I love you, owner.

And of course, there are high chairs too.

There's a clean self-bar and a microwave too.

There's a waiting area too, and right next to it is a dessert coffee and ice cream zone. This place nails both cleanliness and attention to detail.

## Korean beef bulgogi for two and ongsimi mandu: an honest review

What we ordered that day at Dongchuwon Bulgogi was Korean beef bulgogi for two, ongsimi mandu (chewy dumplings), and a Fanta.

> The basic table setting

![Basic table setting at Dongchuwon Bulgogi](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch-13-k8nfa-966.webp)

![Salad, mustard leaf kimchi pickles and muchae at Dongchuwon Bulgogi](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch-14-dbwbp-966.webp)

Fresh salad, mustard leaf kimchi pickles, and muchae (seasoned radish strips) come as standard side dishes.

![Fresh vegetables served with the bulgogi](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch-15-rinpn-966.webp)

![Grade-1 fertilized egg offered as a September-only special](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch-16-15161-966.webp)

Fresh vegetables come with the bulgogi order, along with a grade-1 fertilized egg — whoa. Note that the fertilized egg is a September-only offer (available with Naver alerts on).

> Korean beef bulgogi

Oh, it was actually piled even higher than this — the staff put it right on the grill for us haha. Anyway, the portion was huge, I was shocked.

### Grilled on the plate or simmered in broth: which tastes better?

There are two ways to eat the Korean beef bulgogi at Dongchuwon Bulgogi.

![Bulgogi grilling in the center with vegetables in the side broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch-19-9tfaf-966.webp)

One way is to put only vegetables in the simmering broth on the side while grilling the bulgogi in the center grill,

![Korean beef bulgogi cooking in the broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch-20-46tbu-966.webp)

and the other is to cook the bulgogi directly in the broth. Having tried both, the latter is far tastier. The broth soaks into the bulgogi, making it more moist and doubling the flavor.

![A piece of Korean beef bulgogi soaked in broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch-21-u5o7t-966.webp)

So good... Usually bulgogi is heavy on sweet-and-salty seasoning, so you get sick of it or need rice to go with it, but Dongchuwon Bulgogi isn't overly seasoned. There's no rice served to begin with, and you don't need it — the seasoning isn't strong and there's plenty of bulgogi anyway. I liked being able to fully taste the natural flavor of the Korean beef along with the mushrooms and vegetables.

![Ongsimi mandu ordered as an extra dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch-22-1stly-966.webp)

![Cross-section of chewy ongsimi mandu](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch-23-1rr2i-966.webp)

We also ordered ongsimi mandu on the side, and it was chewy and delicious haha.

## For dessert noodles, bibim naengmyeon beats mul naengmyeon

> Naengmyeon — mul-naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon

![Mul-naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon served for dessert](https://img.superchart.com/images/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch/hakik-dong-hanwoo-bulgogi-open-run-lunch-24-1l8k4-966.webp)

Wait — this is supposed to be a dessert noodle, but the portion is substantial. We'd already eaten a ton of bulgogi... I'm normally more of a mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) person, but

at Dongchuwon Bulgogi, the bibim-naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) was much better. The seasoning was seriously on point haha. Between the Korean beef bulgogi, the grade-1 egg, and the egg on top of the naengmyeon... it's a protein bomb, haha. And that's how the meal wrapped up with dessert noodles.

## Is Dongchuwon Bulgogi worth it for a family meal?

With baby-friendly seats, high chairs, and private rooms, this is a restaurant that welcomes all kinds of families. Bulgogi in particular is a dish that almost no one dislikes, and with five straight years on the Blue Ribbon list, it's a trustworthy spot worth recommending even more. Unlike other bulgogi restaurants, Dongchuwon Bulgogi is clean-tasting and not overly seasoned, letting the natural flavors shine through — and with such generous portions, I'm confident it'll fill you up even without rice.
