Everyone, the season of outdoor tables (야장) is finally here!! It'll get cold again soon so we have to enjoy it while we can. This time I visited an outdoor drinking spot near Incheon City Hall that's also a budget-friendly sashimi restaurant. Starting the post on 'Veteran General Fish Market Incheon City Hall Branch' 🫶

Veteran General Fish Market Incheon City Hall Branch is a great-value sashimi restaurant located a 7-minute walk from Incheon City Hall Station. There are 4 outdoor tables, and a friend who arrived early had already grabbed one, so we got to enjoy drinks and sashimi outdoors in the cool air. And as you can see — completely full!! It was a Friday, and a waiting line formed by around 7:20pm.

Inside, centered around what you see in the photo, there are also large room-style spaces on both sides, and it was really spacious. The prices are excellent and the portions generous, so word has already spread and it's packed with customers of all ages.

There are also sofa tables, and if you need to host a group work dinner or gathering near Incheon City Hall Station, there's a separate room-like space here that can be used entirely privately — worth booking ahead.

The huge fish tank in front of the restaurant is kept impeccably clean, which made it even easier to trust what we were eating. The chef (?) kept going back and forth to the tank, carrying live fish and shrimp still flapping into the kitchen — since it's shrimp season these days, he was carrying off a lot of shrimp. Very crispy and deliciously fried kimchi pancake. Kimchi pancake alone is an amazing drinking snack. There's never a shortage of side dishes here — isn't that what makes a bar great value?

## Side dishes: sushi, fried shrimp and seaweed soup

Starting with cabbage salad and hoemuchim (spicy mixed raw fish salad), all sorts of dishes kept coming out.

Glossy, appetizing sushi also came out — the rice portion was small and the toppings were generous, which I really liked. At most sashimi restaurants, the complimentary sushi appetizers often look pre-made and the fish on top can be a bit dried out, but maybe because this place has so many customers and high turnover, the quality of the sushi appetizers here was excellent.

Veteran General Fish Market Incheon City Hall Branch isn't just great at sashimi — the fried dishes are excellent too. Super crispy, but softly crispy. I love shrimp tempura most, and they gave us a generous amount, which was touching.

Grilled saury came out too, and the seaweed soup was so richly simmered it was incredibly deep in flavor! Whether it was because the outdoor table is small or because the couple set is just that generous, the table was piled high with food, and the two of us were stuffed to bursting but still left a little behind — and by the next day I found myself missing it, sigh.

They also gave us salted pollock roe (myeongnanjeot), white kimchi, and seaweed to eat alongside the sashimi — pairing myeongnanjeot with sashimi was a surprisingly fresh combination.

I really, strongly recommend the couple set for two. Overall it's so generous, the sashimi is varied, and the portions are huge enough to make you burst.
