## In short

Pungnyeon Kalguksu is a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant across from Namwon City Hall in Jeonbuk, popular with locals. Two adults and one preschooler shared the mixed clam kalguksu for two (22,000 won) and pajeon (savory pancake, 14,000 won), a bowl packed with scallops, surf clams, littleneck clams and hard clams in a broth mild enough for a child to finish. Five minutes by car from Gwanghallu and stocked with baby chairs and baby forks, Pungnyeon Kalguksu is an easy pick for a family meal in Namwon.

On a cool autumn day when I was craving something warm and brothy, I went to Pungnyeon Kalguksu, a spot locals in Namwon swear by. It's just 5 minutes by car from Gwanghallu, so it was easy to fit into a Namwon trip. From mixed clam kalguksu to jjimdak (braised chicken) to pajeon, there's a good variety on the menu — here's my review!

### Across from Namwon City Hall: where to park

Pungnyeon Kalguksu sits near Namwon City Hall. It's directly across from City Hall, so it's easy to find! I'd recommend parking at Namwon City Hall or in the side alley. We parked in the alley and walked in.

## Fresh noodles made daily and clams shipped straight from the coast

![Sign noting that the noodles are hand-kneaded fresh every day](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles-03-pf363-m-966.webp)

Pungnyeon Kalguksu makes its noodle soup with fresh seafood shipped in from its source and fresh noodles kneaded by hand every day. This is a place my husband and I often stop by whenever we're in Namwon — the generous portions and clean flavors keep us coming back. It's a genuine local favorite, so on weekdays it fills up with City Hall staff and Namwon locals; if you don't get there before noon you might have to wait a bit. Still, turnover is fast, so the wait doesn't get too long.

## Inside Pungnyeon Kalguksu: is it good with kids?

![Spacious, clean table seating in the main hall of Pungnyeon Kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles-05-4m4xq-966.webp)

We visited around 11:40 on a Saturday, and customers kept streaming in. By noon the dining room was completely full. The interior is spacious and clean. The main hall has table seating with plenty of room front and back, plus floor seating further in — good for company dinners, group gatherings, or family outings.

They also have baby forks and baby chairs, which makes it a great restaurant to bring kids to in Namwon!

They mentioned you can get a small gift for writing a Naver receipt review, so let's give that a try~

## Pungnyeon Kalguksu menu and prices

The signature dishes at Pungnyeon Kalguksu are the mixed clam kalguksu and jjimdak! On the side there's pajeon and mandu (dumplings), which go well alongside the kalguksu and jjimdak. The jjimdak spice level is adjustable, from mild to spicy. I'll have to try the jjimdak next time~ They also sell kongguksu (cold soy milk noodle soup) made with 100% Korean soybeans, as well as the soy milk broth on its own. With two adults and one preschooler, we ordered the kalguksu for two plus the pajeon.

## Side dishes, the self-serve bar and free boiled eggs

While we waited for the food, side dishes that pair well with kalguksu came out.

One great thing about this place is that they give you a boiled egg per person, and it comes out warm — perfect as an appetizer while you wait~ A nice little extra treat~

![Self-serve bar for extra side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles-14-1akuc-966.webp)

If you run low on side dishes, you can always grab more from the self-serve bar~

## Tasting the mixed clam kalguksu and pajeon: honest review

![Table set with mixed clam kalguksu for two and pajeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles-16-bnps9-966.webp)

Mixed clam kalguksu for two was ₩22,000, and pajeon was ₩14,000. It comes out partially cooked, so you just simmer it a bit more until the noodles are done.

![Pot of mixed clam kalguksu simmering](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles-17-zbyxd-966.webp)

![Clam kalguksu filled with scallops, surf clams, littleneck clams, and hard clams](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles-18-19ols-966.webp)

Scallops, surf clams, littleneck clams, hard clams — the clam kalguksu was loaded with all kinds of shellfish! Plenty of clams sitting at the bottom too. Maybe because they use such fresh clams, but with littleneck clams there's sometimes a gritty bite — here, there wasn't a single one!

![Handmade noodles lifted out of the kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles-19-1pp2l-966.webp)

![A bowl of kalguksu broth served with kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles-20-h7f1r-966.webp)

The broth, simmered for two hours with a mix of ingredients, was clean and refreshing, and paired perfectly with the chewy handmade noodles and spicy kimchi. The chewy noodles were great, but honestly, I kept spooning up the broth because it was so good haha. It wasn't spicy or harsh at all, so my kid ate it really well too.

![Thinly fried pajeon loaded with squid](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles/namwon-pungnyeon-kalguksu-clam-noodles-21-npa5w-966.webp)

The pajeon was thinly fried, not thick, loaded with squid and chili, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside! It paired nicely with the kalguksu. Close to Gwanghallu and with clean, satisfying flavors, this is a local favorite I'd recommend for anyone traveling through Namwon!
