## Baekok Dongtan hours, location and parking

Baekok Dongtan is located on the basement 1st floor of Lotte Department Store, 160 Dongtan-yeokro, Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open Mon–Fri 10:30–20:00 (last order 19:30) and Sat–Sun 10:30–20:30 (last order 20:00). Takeout is available and there's no break time.

There are three sets that come with gomtang and cabbage dumplings — the pork gomtang set, yeolgomtang set, and yakgomtang set. There's the mild pork gomtang made from domestic pork foreleg and long-simmered bone broth; the yeolgomtang, made from the same base broth with spicy seasoning and cheongyang chili; and the yakgomtang, where the mild broth is boosted with neungi mushrooms and other medicinal ingredients like milkvetch root for maximum umami. There's also a healthy cabbage dumpling packed with meat and kimchi, cabbage dumpling soup, and bulkkorangji — pork tail braised tender with various spices, then stir-fried spicy. You can upgrade to a large size for +₩5,000. They also serve a kids' rice soup, for reference.

The yakgomtang set comes with gomtang boosted with neungi mushrooms and milkvetch root, 2 cabbage dumplings, and 1 soda.

For side dishes, it came with diced radish kimchi, pickled ung-chae (a leafy vegetable), and pickled mountain peppers, all of which paired well with the pork gomtang.

Can you see how rich the broth looks?? The yakgomtang is a pork gomtang with a deep, clean broth simmered from domestic pork, further enhanced with neungi mushrooms and milkvetch root for maximum umami.

### Toryeom-style rice already mixed with broth

Baekok's gomtang comes with the rice served toryeom-style. What is toryeom? It's a traditional method where rice is put in a bowl and hot broth is poured over it and drained off repeatedly, matching the temperature of the rice and soup while letting the seasoning soak in evenly.

Because it's toryeom-style, the gomtang wasn't too hot, so I could eat it right away, and I liked how well the seasoning had soaked into the rice.

They use domestic pork foreleg with a good balance of fat and lean meat, so the meat was tender, mild, and delicious.

With neungi mushrooms and milkvetch root added, the broth had a savory yet distinctly deep flavor. The broth was clean with no gamey smell, and it felt like eating a restorative tonic dish, which I really liked.
