Friday after-work date night with my fiancé. We had both been constantly exhausted lately with the triple combo of wedding prep, moving prep, and work, but we still met up for dinner. So that day, we decided not to think about anything else and properly take a break over a delicious dinner for the first time in a while.

For dinner, we chose Ppong Sashimi (뽕사시미), a sashimi restaurant in Jungang-dong, Nampo-dong, Busan. We came while looking for a sashimi restaurant in Nampo-dong or Jungang-dong that serves a course meal. Every room at Ppong Sashimi is private and a range of dishes comes out as a course, so it was a lovely place for a quiet meal. When I searched it, I found it was already a popular sashimi spot for formal family introductions too, thanks to its private rooms and course meals.

The signatures you see right as you enter Ppong Sashimi. As you would expect from a popular sashimi restaurant in Nampo-dong and Jungang-dong, there were so many of them. High chairs are available too.

## The cherry blossom tree room and a private meal

We had reserved ahead, and when we went in, the food was set out in a pretty room with a cherry blossom tree. We had made a reservation, and being assigned such a lovely room put me in a good mood before we even started eating. The room was screened by curtains, so we could dine privately, and I was so grateful that the staff checked in as they passed by to make sure the flow of the course meal never stopped.

To the right after entering Ppong Sashimi, there were also private rooms with sliding doors. They were spacious and even quieter with those sliding doors, so they looked great for formal family introductions or group guests.

## Ordering Assorted Sashimi Course B

We reserved Assorted Sashimi Course B in advance.

Ppong Sashimi was also running a receipt event, so if you are planning to drink, join in and get one bottle of soju or beer.

## From chilled boiled pork to sushi and boiled octopus

The first dishes were naeng suyuk (chilled boiled pork), three kinds of sushi, rolled omelet, salad, and boiled octopus. The chilled pork was light yet tender, and it went so well with the seasoning on top.

The three types of sushi were fresh fish sushi, shrimp sushi, and seasoned sushi. The fresh fish sushi was springy and went well with the rice, while the shrimp sushi had a lovely sweet shrimp flavor. My fiancé said the seasoned sushi was so delicious and told me to try it quickly, so I gave him one more piece 😍

And the rolled omelet was honestly so good. It was soft and moist, and the moment I had one, I wanted tamago sushi and checked the menu—only to be disappointed that there was none. The salad was also good for eating in between, and its dressing was delicious, so after the tasty chilled pork and sushi, I made sure to freshen my palate with salad.

## Assorted seafood and warm abalone porridge

Next came assorted seafood, abalone porridge, seaweed soup, and tuna yukhoe (seasoned raw tuna). It was my first time seeing tuna yukhoe: thinly sliced tuna seasoned like yukhoe. The moist texture of the tuna worked beautifully with the seasoning, and even though it was my first time trying it, I kept reaching for more because the tuna's nutty flavor suited the seasoning so well.

Then there were the warm dishes: abalone porridge and seaweed soup. The abalone porridge was full of abalone innards, with a smooth, rich flavor, and the seaweed soup was truly delicious too—clean-tasting, with the nutty flavor of sesame oil. Having a spoonful of warm abalone porridge and seaweed soup between the seafood made my stomach feel comfortable. My fiancé took a bite of the seaweed soup and his eyes lit up—it is really delicious 👍

The assorted seafood was generous, with sea squirt, abalone, sea snail, soy-marinated shrimp, and more. It was fun choosing among the different things on the platter. The crunchy raw abalone and sea snail, along with the soy-marinated shrimp, were delicious, but there was octopus in the spicy Cheongyang chili sauce, and that sauce was unbelievably good. Even after we finished the octopus, my fiancé and I kept eating the chilies because we kept saying how good the sauce was.

## Sea bream, salmon, and flounder fin sashimi

Finally, the main sashimi we had been waiting for. It included sea bream, salmon, and flounder fin. The variety of sashimi and the beautiful plating made it look so appetizing. The sea bream had a pleasantly firm, chewy texture and a clean flavor that came through more as I chewed. The salmon was soft and moist, with its distinctive nutty richness that melted in my mouth.

And then there was the flounder fin, which I love. I liked its crunchy yet chewy texture so much that I ended up eating more of it haha. The sashimi was thick and springy, and I could see why so many people visit Ppong Sashimi as a restaurant in Nampo-dong and Jungang-dong.

We received fatty tuna sashimi as a complimentary dish. I was surprised and so grateful to get tuna sashimi as a service at a sashimi restaurant 💛 The fatty tuna looked appetizing from its red color alone, and when I put it in my mouth, its soft, rich flavor really came through. Be sure to dip the tuna generously in sesame oil and wrap it in gim (roasted seaweed).

## Warm dishes and the final meal

After the main sashimi came bulgogi shabu-shabu, fried shrimp, grilled fish, abalone, and grilled scallops. The warm broth of the bulgogi shabu-shabu warmed my stomach and made the meal feel even more substantial. The fried shrimp did not have a typical batter; thin, thread-like noodles covered the outside, making it extra crisp outside while the shrimp inside stayed bouncy. After continuing with cold dishes like sashimi and seafood, having warm bulgogi shabu-shabu and fried shrimp in the middle felt new and lovely.

The grilled abalone, cheese-grilled shrimp, and cheese-grilled scallops were, of course, delicious with the cheese. My fiancé and I happily continued our meal, saying that delicious dishes just kept coming and that Ppong Sashimi's course composition was so good.

We were so full that we thought, surely nothing else would come out now? But there was still a final meal left. The actual final dishes were cod soup and albap (rice mixed with fish roe). Thinking that a meal has to end with rice, I mixed up the albap and ate it properly.

The cod soup was spicy and wonderfully refreshing. My fiancé took one sip of the broth and said it was perfect with soju, then drank it all up. I loved the albap and scraped the bowl clean, while he kept eating the cod soup. Finishing with cod soup and albap left us incredibly full.

For the truly final finish, maesil-cha (sweet plum tea), perfect for cleansing the palate, came out. We cleared our mouths with the sweet tea and wrapped up the Ppong Sashimi course. From beginning to end, the assorted sashimi course was packed only with delicious food, and by the end, both of us were stuffed.

## A satisfying quiet dinner date

I was so satisfied to have a cozy, delicious meal with my fiancé in a private room for the first time in a while. With wedding prep, moving prep, work, and so many other things piling up lately, we had both been rushing around without a moment to breathe. But that day, it was so nice to go on a date in a room with a cherry blossom tree and enjoy a delicious course meal.

If you are looking for somewhere quiet to eat in Nampo-dong or Jungang-dong, or for a private sashimi restaurant where a variety of dishes comes out as a course, I would recommend Ppong Sashimi in Busan. Since it has rooms, it would work not only for dates but also for family gatherings or a special-occasion meal. We were able to enjoy a properly atmospheric, delicious dinner for the first time in a while and end the day in a great mood 💛
